  • @shawn_7413
    @shawn_7413 6 месяцев назад +10

    Another problem with the dungeons is this game has a poor item selection. So nothing really to make exploring these worth it. Now if the game had a better crafting/ accessory upgrade system they could of put materials all over these dungeons. In DQM2 remake you could use materials to add effects on accessories. Anything from stat buffs, exp/gold boost, resistances, ect

    • @BladeSerph
      @BladeSerph 6 месяцев назад +1

      Oh I certainly remember in many older games where they created incentive to get off the beaten path such as gear you could not get till much LATER in the game that helps to deal with the certain bosses at the current point or you can only get it from that place.
      It didn’t help the demo didn’t have the accessories or crafting and since the ‘maps’ are somehow even lazier then DQ treasures which you could atleast traverse vertically and had locations that require some special moves to reach.
      Though I think I would rather dragon quest 11 maps and dungeons which feel more tight in and didn’t require giant poorly made maps to justify having all the over world enemy spawns.
      Which atleast legends arceus had a better way to handle it by not transitioning to a different zone for combat, even having the extra fun of other Pokémon could join in(GOD I LOVED TALES OF BERSERIA’s chain enemy feature to face multiple waves of enemies in one battle!) and allow fun ways to approach monsters and even get surprise attacks in.
      It kind of feels like alot of games that wanna force transitions to open worlds do away with fun stuff, even though the ability to take more creative approaches like hucking sleep bombs, rocks, baiting monsters, or striking them with a weapon put some better feel into it.
      Which if they use the story excuse for psaro, then have one of his leading monsters pop up to do a melee instead or have rose or Tolien do it instead of being mostly redundant ‘call backs’ from the game it’s based on as far as I recall. Doesn’t help either they also have psaro’s evolution form as a recruitable monster that jars me a bit too.
      Anyway, maybe if they had ingame outfits, unlockable spells that psaro could use in combat to support his team, a collectible side quest boost to gain generalistic bonuses like a general upgrade to recruiting monsters like getting an extra turn or three before they enrage, with maybe even the ability to ‘extract’ talent trees to give as books to other monsters might of also been cool.
      Seriously, i just want games to innovate on previous designs, not bloody feel like they regressed, if not feel like nothing is different at all even compared to games that came out 10-20’years ago.
      Which atleast dragon quest monster joker entries had entirely separate from mainline game’s locales to work with, the fact dark prince being the 2nd game in a row based on a previous dragon quest game from the early era by loosely clinging to its fanservice while also butchering it in more ways then one always ruined it for me, especially since I’m well aware of things like ‘video games created as spin off adaptations’ to other properties, especially ones made based on a ‘anime’.

      Unlike dragon quest treasures stat medals which were too poor on handling acquisition and equipping optimization.

    I love this game very much and just passed 70 hours played recently. I have to say it's really good despite having very mediocre graphics and performance. There are several changes they could make or should have made that would've made this a 10/10 for me and none of them are related to the aesthetics. I'll make it brief:
    -Increase XP earned from battles.
    -Increase gold earned from battles.
    -Increase scouting rate success by at least 25%. It's way too hard to scout monsters successfully.
    -Change it so that once you've scouted a monster successfully, it gets EASIER to scout more of the same, not HARDER. That makes no sense whatsoever.
    - The increased success rate of scouting AFTER finishing the story in an area is just backwards to me. They're basically saying, skip trying to tame new monsters even though you might need them and come back to a now outdated area to do your collecting. That's just so stupid. Finishing or not finishing the story in an area shouldn't have anything at all to do with the success rate of scouting monsters. Remove that aspect entirely.
    - Decrease the amount of MP needed for spells by at least 15%. You run out of mana in less than 10 battles.
    -Nerf drain magic spells. It's just dumb to cost so much to cast spells and then have 30% of your entire mana bar erased in one enemy's cast of drain magic.
    Those are just a few things that could make the game a million times more enjoyable.

    All of these things should have been unlockable post-game additions.
    The Mole Hole especially just breaks the game.....& yes I have totally abused it.
    Due to how fun I find the grind. I have spent hours even before hitting the Medium Echelons grinding......then basically dominating the rest of the game. I've been able to auto battle every boss lol. Its been amazing.

    I look at this DLC as more of me bribing the devs to get some of the development tools in-game to be able to customize the amount of grind needed. Since it's a one-off payment, and I know the grind already from other DQM games to be tolerable (if unnecessary), I'm cool with it, especially if it results in more localized content.

    Main story felt very sloppy and corners cut. To me it felt this game was intended to focus on the post game and thats why they made mole hole a separate dlc. It should have been in the base and like someone here mentioned, the fact that the dlc was released with the base game meant was they knew ppl would feel inclined to get the dlc contents.

      To be fair, both of them fall under the `side content dumpster bins that might of been better off costing 40 bucks, instead of 60 dollars.
      If i had to compare them to other Dragon quest spin off titles, Builders and Builders 2 were by far way better due to taking the minecraft modus operandi and expanding it in VERY fun methods, some people able to pull off crazy stuff like recreating earlier era towns, dungeons, from various dragon quest games, and even other games thanks to the 3rd person birds eye view perspective with how they handle building.
      Dragon quest monsters as a whole has a good basis, but considering how long ago since the LAST Dragon Quest monsters entry was AND they had plenty of even mainline dragon quest games with monster rearing mechanics, i kind of expect a good deal more polish then not feeling that much different at all to Dragon Quest Joker 1~3 at all.
      Which even hits harder where the whole `Psaro` storyline focus of the game felt mostly redundant and they could of just used the character from Dragon Quest Joker again and simply had you be a `monster wrangler` going thru the tournament arc once more, except going thru monster worlds instead of some floating sky islands or something. Which atleast one of those entries had the fun of a entirely UNIQUE monster to its entry that you would evolve over time as the story progresses to make a super powerful monster at the end, giving a much more personal connection as a result.
      Hell all this ramble reminds me of some of the Monster rancher games, especially back in the PS2 era, where one of them was you being part of a circus troupe and you would actually have your monsters work as part of the show, with the other performers helping out with your duties, it really SOLD ITSELF on that basis super fun and the whole backdrop gave fantastic story beats by being a traveling circus and a `circus family` that helped out one another too.@@dokutah7374

      @@SanganY "generally, the protagonist serves little purpose other than collecting and driving the plot forward."
      But that is EXACTLY why I love mon-tamers. The real stars ARE the monsters. Collecting a bunch of cool monsters, giving them names, and coming up with personalities and backstories for them. That's half the fun of mon-tamers. I'm glad the protag is just a vehicle for them to move around in more often than not.
      I LITERALLY play Mon-tamers to play as the MONSTERS, not human shapeshifters. Heck, if I REALLY want to be specific, I typically play games to get away from being human for a brief period of time, and most mon tamers allow me to get attached to a giant monster, take their role and be in their shoes for a moment. Cassette Beasts completely takes that away. The star is yet another uninspired humann just like MILLIONS of other humans. You never actually get to play as monsters or get attached to them. All you get is your generic human who can turn into, again, pretty bland and expressionless designs, most of which are just cobbled together objects, with even most of the animals lacking emotion.
