My feeling from watching Pele in the late 60s and early 70 is that he was supremely gifted, everyone wanted to play like Pele, he was disciplined, and worked hard at being the best that he could be and he truly loved football, he was quite simply the king of football. My feeling from watching Maradona was that he made the football look like it loved him as much as he loved football. He maintained a mastery and control of the ball during significant match pressure against tough abusive defenders that to this day is without equal. He was not as disciplined but he was more determined, stronger physically. The heavy pressure only brought out the best in Maradona. For me Maradona was simply the Emperor of football.

Unfortunately I am too young to watch him play. But from what I can see in this footage it looks like Pele was playing way ahead of his time. His movements look like what players do nowadays, but when you see the defenders reactions you can see they've never seen anything remotely similar to those. They couldn't even predict what he was going to do before it was already too late.

I think most Brazilians have no idea the effect Pele had on people far away from Brazil. In his prime every kid in Africa wanted just to be Pele. For the populace in large Pele was on mythological par with the likes of the Greek gods like Zeus. His name was synonymous with lightening, tornedo or hurricane. He was the mega force, the atomic bomb of football. To Africans when someone mentions Pele there is only one thing that comes to mind BRAZIL and when someone mentions Brazil, there is only one name that comes to mind PELE! Brazil=Pele and Pele=Brazil. Period! He is the first and last Brazilian to put Brazil right on the world map. Because of Pele Africans till now LOVE and root for the Brazilian team. He engraved the Brazilian yellow jersey and the legendary number 10 on every non Brazilian child, man and woman's psyche. On every African country sport radio broadcasts, there was only megastar that controlled the air waves, Pele!. Legend has it that people used to kiss the ground he walked on. I can go on and on about his feat. The words "GOAT" or "King of soccer" don't do any justice to him. He was bigger than the game itself. He overshadows the entire game. Without him, football has no meaning at all. He is the father and football is just his little kid.

I had always thought George Best was the best player in the world. After I had the fortune to witness Pepe’s greatness during a friendly game played by Santos against Newcastle on June 4, 1972 in Hong Kong. Newcastle led 2-1 in the first half but Pele scored 3 fantastic goals in the second half to win the game. One of the goals was the best goal I have ever seen. Pele received the ball in the midfield from a overhead pass, he ran toward Newcastle’s goal touching the ball 7 times by his head, chest, thigh and feet while he ran passed 3 players and the ball never touched the ground and scored with a volley. He was like a magician performing acrobatics in full speed. There was a movie that came out and replayed that play 7 times. I kept going back to the theater to watch that play. I wish somebody had that movie or video to show Pele’s skills. He truly is the king and the best.

@@GarronMenezes and he is not better than Maradona in that aspect.
Maradona was a better dribbler and had 3x times as good ball control. Why?
Well, Maradona played in an era where defending was brutal, and he was fouled 25 times in a single match by the same player, while Messi gets fouled about 2 times a game.
Also, the pitch was often in horrible condition, making it much harder to dribble.
There is no sense in what you're saying, bro

    • @aaro_koivisto25
      @aaro_koivisto25 2 года назад +13

@Oak Chinks still does not change the fact that Maradona is easily the most fouled player in history, and Pele does not even come close.
Maradona played in 3 world cups, and in all of them, he was the most fouled player ever in the single tournament.
So literally the top 3 most fouled players in world cup history are Maradona.
Also, even id your comment had some sense in it, Maradona faced astronomically better defenders than Pele, and that's a fact.
Players like Maldini and Baresi were rapid and they read the game like no one else. Baresi would absolutely shit on players like Zico and Platini. while Maldini could stop ronaldo 9 at his prime.
Nowadays defenders are no where near as technically gifted, and the reason for the slower pace of football was because the pitches were absolutely awful back then. Following someone who has just dribbled you is the worst possible thing to do, you pass him on to the next defender to mark and get back to your original position. That's why so many diagonal and Lob passes make trouble nowadays. Defenders follow the person dribbling them after he's left them for dead, thus getting out of their original position and creating too many unwanted gaps.
Godin and Ramos are not half as good as Baresi and Maldini. Players like Maldini who played in Maradonas era, are known as the best defenders ever at awareness and reading the game. they also happened to be alot tougher.
Gentile alone fouled Maradona more than 20 times In a match, while Messi doesn't get fouled 2,3 times a match. Maradona had his ankle shattered by Goikotxea, but still continued to be the best.
And no, players like Medel aren't as good as the defenders Maradona went against, and that's a fact.
The game isn't faster these days, the pace is exactly the same as it was, and if there was any sort of delay in gameplay, it was because of the awful pitches.
If anybody calls Boateng the best defender in the world, they dont even know the square root of jackshit about football. He can't give 90 minutes of solid defending and everybody knows it.
The only true defender messi faced was Nesta in 2012 who was 37 and had so many surgeries and so many serious shoulder and back injuries, he got completely locked down the entire match. At one point he was so frustrated, he started punching the ground. Back then maradona faced Baresi, Maldini, Scirea, Brehme, Gentile and many more who are known as the best defenders of all time. Football was brutal back then to such a point that once in Italy vs Argentina Gentile had to foul him 25 times alone.

For me, Pele was an innovator, VERY much ahead of his era. A really skilled & talented individual who did things that players do today, 50-60 years ago like he saw them on TV. Although he played with the superstar team, dont forget he did that very very young, imagine the pressure. I would relate Messi more with Pele rather than with Diego playing style-wise.
As for Maradona, he was from another planet, noone comes close to him in terms of raw talent and passion with the game. His relationship with the ball was like romance. His touch, flow, passing, shooting etc. were unmatched but still looked very natural, as if it was his bread & butter. He was so dominant in the field and when he was going on a counterattack it looked like a wave was coming to crush the opponents. He was, is and forever will be an inspiration and someone to look up to for players (in terms of football only). He was Mozart and god of football.

Excellent video! During soccer practice in 1976 our coach played a video of Pele doing all his tricks, juggling, nut megging, bicycle kicks, etc. We all stormed out on to the practice field and played like insane men, flopping around trying bicycle kicks, stumbling, stepping on the ball, all trying to play like Pele, which we could not do of course. And then I juggled for hours upon hours to work on my ball control skills. I was a center forward and always insisted on wearing #10. Pele was an inspiration to millions of young kids. He set us all on fire! And then Maradona. He deserves to be in the discussion of who is the GOAT. What a blend of tenacity and insane skills. Thanks for this video!

Oh! I love the players of Brazil, especially, Mario Zagallo, Gerson( the left winger of 1970 FIFA who was said to be the brain behind the team winning the 1970 FIFA), and I love Zico, Ronaldo Nazario and many. But I didn't love Pele.
One of my happiest day was when in 2004 FIFA released a book compiled by Pele writing the 125 greatest football players both retired and still playing, and Gerson in a live television broadcasting tore away the page prepared by Pele.
I want to say one thing, "Pele has become a myth with inaccurate statistics spread out by reporters and media persons." I think that this myth of Pele should be erased from the minds of the people.
Even when FIFA conducted a voting to find the player of the century Pele received only 18.36 percent votes.
When FIFA decided to declare the 'GOAL OF THE CENTURY' Pele got 3rd place.
When oneof Pele's sons was picked up by the police for drug trafficking from that time onwards Pele stopped saying malice against Maradona.
For may years people thought Pele was the highest goal scorer of the world: when FIFA acknowledged a trophy to Joseph Bican for scoring highest goals ever could people learn that there was a player called Joseph Bican who played in 917 matches netting 1468 goals.
Pele is the real fraud of football, this myth of Pele should be erased from the minds of the people.

For the populace in large Pele was on mythological par with the likes of the Greek gods like Zeus. His name was synonymous with lightening, tornedo or hurricane. He was the mega force, the atomic bomb of soccer. He engraved the Brazilian yellow jersey and the legendary number 10 on every non Brazilian man, woman and child. On every African country sport radio broadcasts, there was only megastar that controlled the air waves, Pele!. Legend has it that people used to kiss the ground he walked on. I can go on and on about his legends. The words "GOAT" or "King of soccer" don't do any justice to him. He was bigger than the game itself. He overshadows the entire game. Without him, soccer has no meaning at all. He is the father and soccer is just his little kid.

    Pelé
He started at Santos in 1956 and stayed in the team until 1974. From his first match for the team, it was noticed that a talent was being born in the fields of the coastal city. However, the player became one of the greatest in history for the genius shown in more than 1000 games by Peixe. Due to his enormous talent, Pelé was called up to the Brazilian national team and played in four World Cups (1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970) and won three titles (1958, 1962 and 1970), all as the main piece. At the end of his career, shirt 10 transferred to the New York Cosmos in 1974, where he played for another three years. In his entire career, Pelé made 1375 games, 1282 goals and won 59 titles.
    Maradona
The numbers speak for themselves, comparison.👑🏆🏆🏆

Overshadowed by Garrincha a lot of times in the NT. Didn't carry a single world cup, outshone by Didi in 1958, basically didn't even play in 1962 (his generation was good enough to win without him WTF LOL), disappeared in 1966, outshone by Jairzinho in 1970. Seriously, who wouldn't have looked good playing in this generation? And yet, he doesn't hold a single world cup record in just about everything, completely outdone by other countries strikers in terms of goalscoring in every world cup he played. Likewise Santos was a stacked team.
"But he shot so many goals in his career!" Well everyone knows about the fake numbers ("1200") this FRAUD came up with to inflate his record. He did shoot a ton of goals but guess what, so did everyone in his time... Eusebio, Gerd Muller, Ferenc Puskas, Josed Bican, Just Fontaine all of them not only had similar numbers of goals scored throughout their career they also had a similar or even BETTER goal-per-game ratio than Pelé. It was simply completely normal to have 0.8-1.0 goals-per-game ratio for any top class striker in that era. Hell, Fernando Peyroteo obliterates everyone with a completely insane 1.77 goals per game ratio. But do you see these guys ever praised even remotely like him? No, because FIFA didn't hype them as "best player in the world".
The reason people call him a fraud is because his hype was manufactured by FIFA because they wanted a poster-boy for the sport, and Pelé gladly accepted the role. He became FIFA's lapdog puppet ambassador, metaphorically shining Sepp Blatter's shoes, just absolutely pathetic. He's never grown out of that role even now, continues lying and making up shit about his goal records, pretends like it's the only measure of a great player while being silent on all the players who had a better goalscoring ratio, throwing his legendary teammates under the bus to make it look like he actually carried anything, etc. etc. etc.
Compare this to Maradona who literally MADE teams... His influence is incomparable. He would carry so hard it cannot be put into words. Napoli was a joke before he arrived, he made them win almost everything for the first time, then they fell into irrelevancy when he left. Napoli with Maradona and Napoli without Maradona simply existed in different dimensions. All because of one player! THAT's player influence. THAT's how you measure how good a player is: How much he elevates a teams capabilities. And yet even that great achievement pales in comparison to what he did in 1986, carrying a mediocre team nearly single-handedly to the world title, a feat completely unmatched in history. Attempted or created more than half of Argentina's chances, three times as many dribbles as any other players, fouled a record 53 times, winning his team TWICE as many free kicks as any player. Involved in 71% of Argentina's goals. Shot the goal of the century. Even while DOUBLE-marked in the finals to take him out of the game he still made a brilliant assist for the final goal with a GODLY long-pass. Completely unstoppable. Incomparable, unmatched performance. Pisslé can't compete.

Pele versus Maradona is a comparison that cannot be made. The two of them are off-the-charts when it comes to ball skills, foot work, passion for the game, and the ability to finish. I will always see them as equal and unmatched by any other player in history - and likely in the future. I am delighted to have grown up when they both played in their prime to see their greatness on the pitch. They were exceptional talents. Players like Messi and Ronaldo and their like are also fabulous foot ballers, but they're not quite in the category of Pele and Maradona. Those two possessed and utilized finesse to an unparalleled level going sideways and backwards with the ball at their feet as often as they advanced forward where Ronaldo, Messi, and their like rely a bit more on power and straight line attacking.

Pele me parece mas completo.

He was the mega force, the atomic bomb of soccer.

There's nothing that other players did or matched or did a dribbling or matched a goal or did a pass or took a ball from his side of the field passed 6-7 or more players from other team and scored a goal which exactly the same Pele didn't achieve or reach or do!! Pele did, scored, passed, reached everything in football and he realised all that better than anyone else!! Besides that he was also the first person who realised it, not second not third, but first!! Everybody learned from him!! So.. He's the best and the football King!! Everybody else are queens, bishops, rooks, knights, pawns...
