      THIS - probably not (unfortunately). Could get a Top 10 though if the juries love it (see Portugal 2024). It's not appealing to the younger public.
      Other Irish songs from that period - maybe, folksy sound is more popular now than some years ago.

    I love the way the technological limitations of camera technology at the time syned with the rhythm of the song, nowadays shed have to have a firework coming out her arse midway to allow for some steadicam camera sequences, which of course speaks volumes about the eurovision in the modern era.

      Ireland don't want to win that's the problem they wanted to host first time second time but then it's too much money and bother for them, let's be honest we know if Ireland enter a celtic singers with traditional Irish music Riverdance ect it's gunna win there's a reason they dont we know we could win it if we truly wanted too it's not that the entires are not talented it's just Ireland choose not to enter someone they know will win beyond reasonable doubt they won 3 times in a row and it cost them a hell of a lot of money they then changed it up a little lost one year win the next I think they enter to keep good relations with EU countries and be good sports as we'd call it but theve no real desire to win winning 3 times in a row cost them millions

    I am Irish with Swedish citizenship also but thought Eimear was amazing. However, by a hairs whisker I loved Sweden's song. Sweden and Ireland should have been joint winners. I know its impossible. I feel more Irish than Swedish but Sweden's song is one of my all time favourites.

      Both Ireland and Sweden had truly AMAZING songs in 1996. But for me Norway was even better. Just slightly, but better. All 3 of them would be deserving winners of 1997 and many other years. Ireland with this absolutely majestic entry is definitely amongst the best winners of all time.

    This is a real woman. A beautiful, natural woman. Which is how it should be, without any extra costumes and unnecessary makeup. She has an amazing voice. A voice that takes your breath away. A clear, gentle, elegant voice.
    It was this song that was chosen as the soundtrack to the movie "The Lord of the Rings". Although not the main soundtrack.
    This is how I want to see Eurovision. Exactly as it was intended to be.
    And not this shame, which has been jumping around the stage lately.

      Bambi Thug did us Irish proud what are you on about? I use to agree, I prefer these ballads to what’s popular now. But Ireland for many years continued to send generic songs despite knowing that the times have changed. Bambi showed that Ireland can do well with genres outside Ballads. I get if you dislike the current genre, but there’s no denying that the Doomsday Blue performance was well done, perceived well, and did well by placing us 6th!

      If only Ireland sent something good again! Wild Youth's song reminds me of Nicky Byrne's Sunlight from 2016...very average and forgettable and the message is generic. You would have had a chance to qualify with Connolly but alas she was not chosen.

    A bit breathy from her side. Didnt know this was a Eurovision song. Just knew the version from the lovely ladies with the violins who seem to have real vocal education/training in the classical field (celtic woman they are called). Great song. But she didnt hit all the notes. So props to the band that covered it to make it really stand out and shine!
