I've been waiting for this video. Ive been trying to make my own and its been a trial lol. I need to find a good wood substitute, since I cant find the wood you use here in the states. Excellent as always however! Love Tengus. Very visually interesting.
Paulownia is rare to find in America and Europe since they're foreign species native to Asia, so your best option is to import it. It can be expensive, so if you can't afford it, I suggest to use Basswood instead. Basswood is always a safe choice. It might be a little harder to craft with, but it's still a soft wood and a very common one. It's good for practice.

Hello Hiromitsu! I love your videos! I have a question. For your tengu, I have a few questions 😀 1. How many layers of gofun? 2. Do you only use one shade of red? How many layers? 3. Do you only use natural pigments? And 4. What kind of oil do you use to rub in the end? I hope my questions aren't uncomfortable! 🙂
I will answer the question 1.Gofun paints and scrapes until the surface is smooth.I painted it about 10 times and scraped it about 3 times.2.I mixed about three kinds of red.Apply multiple coats until there are no more uneven areas.3.All paints are natural pigments4.There is oil for oil finishing .It dries in about 10 days
