The fond memories of the R 30 cars. My first ride on them was 1977! The M train to Coney Island D train used to end at Brighton Beach weekdays only evenings and weekends D to Coney Island. Next thing I knew they were on The D Train! Rode them on the L train after the retirement of the R 1 to R 9 s were off the Eastern Division. R train to Court Street New York City Transit Museum, 😀 rode them on the Q Train, The 6th Avenue Shuttle, the B train to Coney Island 1987, spotted them running on the A Train on 1 occasion. And last on the C train in their Red Bird BMT version. I rode my last one on DECEMBER 31, 1992 @ 8:00 PM. At 145th Street lower level. Their were at that time prior 2 sets in Bedford Park BLVD, Concourse Yard then. Another bonus The R 30 farewell trip in 1993. At the end of the trip at 34th STREET Herald Square the top front rollsign logo: Blue JFK EXPRESS! That was a shock! 😱 The R 27 and R 30 cars were too young to retire I still miss them! Thanks for sharing this. 🙂
By 1988, 89 l rode on a set when it was on the C train, in the late 1970s and earlier 80s l rode set of the R27/30 car groups on the C D and even on the M train too! I could not believe that they retired too soon it was a $317.000 per car overhaul and it was a waste of money too!
R27/ R30 car groups that were rebuilted as a light overhaul as Redbirds could have remained in passenger services for a longer term including a few or more persevered in museum car collections and nostalgia events too! Air conditioning would have been installed too!
And there are a lot of other line that are replaced like the TT then renamed to the T train then the TT and T trains are not used any more but the MTA is planning to Run theT trains back on the 2nd avenue line
I believe they had problems with the air conditioning and I think they were expected to survive till the age of 60 at least unfortunately didn't happen
Yes, they were doing pretty well and were planned to be retired around the time of the R160s but they had issues and had to be retired early by the R68As.
I think if they hadn’t had the issues, they would’ve been retired by the R160s in 2009, and the R44s (which i’m going to assume in this scenario also had no issues later in life) would live to be retired by the R179s.
The R-27 and R-30 cars only had fans, not air conditioners. However, the R-26, R-28, R-29 and R-33 cars were equipped with air conditioners after they were remodeled.

Omg the TT line is real!!
I remember the R27s, R30s and R30As in passenger service. I remember the last line the R30s ran on was the C train.
The R30s did run on the L but since the R68 was 75 foot long, they had to run R42s on the L line until the R143 order.
That makes no sense. What does the R30 have anything to do with the R68?
The R68s couldn’t retire the 60-footers on the L so they had to be kept. That is why there were still R42s running until the R179 order.
No, the R42s were retired by the R179s early last year.
Yes but not all of them. There were still a few on the J which were retired by the R179s.
@boygamer100 thebest The R143s actually displaced the R42s on the L onto the J/M/Z I think
1:11 Thats an Air raid siren in the background! The little silver birdhouse-looking tower in the background..
Wow, that’s really interesting!

Is a good thing i rode the c and L train during my childhood i remember 1993 it was used for work train detail and i knee it was the last year for it!
Where did the QT go?
Local along Brighton, via Tunnel and Broadway Local. It ran between 1960 and 1967.
Okie
The QT is renamed to the QB, then later, it became the QJ and it became the Q trian

D to Coney island via Franklin Ave shuttle?
They didn’t bother setting the signs or they didn’t work. It was a shuttle train.
Nice video! What was the music being used?
Glad you enjoyed! It's from a really long copyright free playlist so I'm not sure exactly what song it is.
Damn it, I missed the premier

@@captainkeyboard1007 The R36 also had air conditioning too.
R44
Yikes the 1970s and 1980s didn't look good.
