I am 73 years old & I used to live in Iowa & I remember 1 year I’ve never forgot it. I remember 1978 it was just horrific it started 3 days after Christmas the Arctic was open didn’t get above 10 degrees the Arctic Lasted till the middle of February!! We had snow also every other day in Iowa through the whole month of January & the start of February I remember that year very good!! What broke it down was the Sun getting higher in the Sky. I know the Sun don’t move much in January in fact it just stays stationary in January!!
I have lived in North Carolina all my life. On the east side of the blue ridge parkway. These mountains hold back a lot of whether, either cracks it up or sends it up the western side. But if we get the jet stream to dip down into the gulf , and brig all that moisture up the I85 corridor, and the cold weather is here, then we may get a snow storm. But not if it has to cross over those mountains. Want make it to us.
