      Weeeeeell, you're not completely wrong, buuuut... The folding stock is usually a compromise to reduce the lenght of the weapon when not in use. If you ask real soldiers (or softgunners, just anyone that has held a real or fake firearm for at least one day) most of them will agree that a folding stock is not as comfy as a collapsible or even a fixed stock.
      But wait, you might ask, why did they leave the folding stock on the gun in star wars? To keep the fingers away from the heated barrel, as the folding stock doesn't touch it. You can still still argue why didn't they just replace the stock with a compatible metal bar, my answer for that is: "It's ok, Star Wars hasn't been known for gun porn as its main attraction, also props-modelling time cuts"

    Love this video. Especially the moments you said "Electroscope". In my headcanon the E-11 was introduced in 16 BBY (around the same time as Stormtrooper Armor and the standardization of Imperial Naval Design) the E-10 was a contemporary Cheaper variant that cut down on "Unnecessary" parts like the Electroscope and was typically issued to Imperial Army Soldiers while the more advanced and Powerful E-11 was issued to Stormtroopers. By 0 BBY the E-10 had largely disappeared from general service due to it's cheap reputation (In a deleted scene Han's E-10 jammed in the middle of the Battle and he called it "Cheap Imperial crap!!!" Before discarding the useless firearm) I love the E-10 and the AT-DT Walker as they show that the Imperial Military actually improved over time instead of stagnating and starting out with the same equipment we see in the original trilogy. I could see the Imperial Army being the main Infantry Service for non-clone recruits from 19 BBY to 8 BBY after which the Stormtrooper Corps became the main service branch of the Imperial Army.

    Something struck me as odd about stormtrooper guns for a long time, it wasn't until I learned more about real guns that I finally worked it out.
    The standard E-11 looks way too small.
    The stock is a wire-frame at best and it's always folded away (presumably because blasters don't have a lot of recoil and spaceships are CQB so you want a shorter gun?) but the stormtroopers clutch them like rifles.
    Basically, it's a bunch of people holding what amounts to SMGs as though they were real rifles.

I think an interesting idea for another similar video could be Lightsabers, although you'd really have to stick to universal changes like the Proto-Saber, curved handles, dual bladed, things like that given how personal each individual blade normally is, still think it could make for quite the fascinating vid. You could have added how in just A New Hope alone there were variations between the props used. Some had the longer scope and some with the shorter scope. Some had no counter on the side and others did. The prop weapons were rented so the modifications to make them Star Warsy meant the add-ons had to be superficial. This is likely why when Luke is holding an E-11 in his stormtrooper disguise you see where the counter had been glued on the side. By the time they got to ESB they began making more foam and rubber versions of the E-11 for stunt work. This is when random parts were being added to the prop and it began drifting away from the look it had in ANH. When ROTJ came around the E-11 looked very different but this was because the props were based on Japanese replicas of the Canadian licensed Sterling SMG. The Canadian version looked a good bit different from the original versions. Of course this is all concerning the props themselves and NOT the version in the universe. Earlier attempts at explaining these differences in the pre-Disney Canon was by saying the E-11 had variants like the E-11B (those used late in the Galactic Civil War) or E-11 carbine (A scopeless, folding stockless version). This made sense like we have ever evolving variants or our real world main battle rifles.
    One thing that pisses me off to this day is the prop makers adding a collapsible stock on a weapon that already has a folding stock.
    Cool video!

    If you think about it, the DC-15S blaster carbine is the in-universe/timeline predecessor to the E-11 blaster rifle. It was used heavily by the Republic clone military and saw some use in the early years of the galactic Empire.

    You are missing the E-11 variants present on ESB and ROTJ, and those are quite different from ANH version, especially the ROTJ. In ROTJ Lucasfilm decided to use a Model Gun Corporation (MGC) Japan metal replica that is similar to modern airsoft instead of a real Sterling SMG. The greeblies and parts on it are also different. On ESB they used the classic Sterling but with different greeblies and no more mag cylinders or Hengstler counter on the side. Screen used ROTJ Stormtrooper blaster: i.postimg.cc/kXw4XWWv/ROTJ-Stormtrooper-blaster-screen-used-01.jpg

      Technically no, the Republic never issued the E-11 to its troops, but they did use the DC-15S which is very similar to the E-11 but lacks the scope and processing unit on the side.
      The DC-15S was the grandfather of the E-11 and while exceptional in its size and performance for it’s time, BlasTech took the lessons they learned from the DC-15 series blasters for the basis of the E series blasters.

    Just a fun fact the E-11 stock could be used as a Vertical forward grip as well. So with a collapsible stock attached you would have better control. On the real weapon it was a feature we seldom used, I did use it if in a vehicle cab for added ease of stability when fired.
    I do plan on having a few added feature's on the E-11 3D model I am going to build. I have idea's to have it all interchangeable from the standard E-11.

    • @HNTRKLLR
      @HNTRKLLR 6 лет назад

      I noticed that too. I remember reading the folding stock under the barrel could be partially deployed and used as a fore grip. Maybe the adjustable stock attached to the butt wasn't always issued (a lot of the E-11's don't have it), but the folding stock was standard, so when they did actually get an adjustable stock, they just kept the standard folding stock on to use as a fore grip?.. an unnecessarily heavy-yet-sparse fore grip..
      Or maybe Star Wars gun designers know very little about real, practical gun designs and go for rule of cool while also trying to stay visually reminiscent of the original E-11 that was just a Stirling SMG with some "sci-fi" bits thrown on? hah

    How does an energy weapon jam?

    • @willlasdf123
      @willlasdf123 5 лет назад +1

      Probably depends on what blaster mechanics you assume are actually cannon. If you assume it's taking discreet units of gas, ionizing it into plasma and then magnetically accelerated as a condensed bolt held together by it's accelerating magnetic field, then I could see how you could get anything from feed issues to having moisture or foreign material cause issues or blockages with the magnetic rails or coils. I'd also imagine that if something also interfered with it's ability to move heat into it's heat sink, the gun wouldn't fire as that could also screw with magnetic properties of accelerating rails or cause them to fail and basically have a whole bunch of plasma blow up in your face.
      Thats my mental gymnastics at least to make sense of Star Wars!
