"Alien's" and "The Shining" were rented by your dad on the same day! Damn, what a hell of a dad to respect your intelligence at that age, I easily see how you earned it just as my son did. And what a viewing experience that day was for young Rob.
Also what you guys are talking about is exactly why I love the movies you guys talk about and how much you guys love cinema and directors as much as I do!

Thanks Hung, this is really useful, even for me, its been a long time since this interview and Ive been meaning on re listening to it, but id forgotten what subjects it even covers. Thanks!
I remember that video, sowing you the map and lay out of the building and how it wouldn't work. Robs work is the best. He's the reason started in the first place.
@@Wallyworld30 Hey Marty, no not retired lol, since this channel is really a passion project on the side, it has always had to come 2nd to other things in life. But got a few videos lined up and should have some more out soon. Appreciate the patience.
It’s taken me a while to get round to this video ,but wow . Rob is great and I was really exited for him to talk about Kubrick and Lynchs work . Love the video
Darren - Your comment about timeless vs. timely is one of the main reasons I hold your opinion in such high regard. In a day and age where people are so addicted to instant and superficial gratification, it is very refreshing to hear in-depth analysis and thought provoking observations. Keep up the great work!
This was one of your best videos. Very well done. I could hear you two talk for hours. Lots of knowledge and experience in there. Keep up the good work!
Always a pleasure to hear what Rob has to say, his work will have a bearing on education for some time I think. Your not so bad yourself Mr Foley and thanks for publishing this conversation. Fascinating stuff, looking forward to your new film next year!
I'm so glad to have found another good film analysist. I love Rob's work. I'm not a film maker but many of my friends are and I'm fascinated by the psychological elements in films and how they are presented. Also Rob has just confirmed that I'm not crazy, I hate the Dark Knight too, they are the most boring films ever.
Always happy to share Rob Ager, he's the person that really started this channel, gave me the idea that I could do the same kind of thing, I was always, and still a huge fan of his work!
lol Thanks Ryan, Yeah Rob played a big inspiration in what i do know so it kinda feels like going full circle to be able to invite him on the show and acknowledge him for his influence.
@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ I really like Rob Agar's Death Wish II critique it is not on the bandwagon of branded the film as the worst film. Yes the film is Marmite, but it supposed to be a film that make you uncomfortable. I just like his honesty but also his intelligent constructive criticism. Another favourite of his, his Psycho II. Also you keep your good work.
Ager's mic drops in out out many times, and for long periods. If you had his feed in your headset, why didn't you stop the interview and have it corrected? It's really distracting.
Apophenia was coined for a person's difficulty in forming an accurate picture of reality based on available data. Films are not reality, as such, and moreover, the data supplied by the film is ALL the data supplied for it's comprehension. Films are works of art, and so any investigation (however detailed) is not delusional. Think of the analyses of DaVinci's work over the centuries. The only valid way to refute a given analysis to point out its particular flaws in logic, perception or coherence.
Lchadwick1987 pretty sure he's being funny. But he's probably confusing the dumb people and making it hard for smart people with no smart friends in bad positions

Wow I cant believe I nver knew about this after following Rob's channels for years.
Yeah I was also a massive fan of his, so being able to sit and talk with him for a while was amazing!
Same here! Ive been watching and reading Rob Ager constantly for the last year and Darren is a close second!

@@_MUSTSEEFILMS_ your articulations are awesome. How u elaborate your points in layman, relatable, easy-to-understand language is very spot-on
@@HungNguyen-qr7bt Glad to hear it was useful, Rob is a pretty awesome guy, definitely worth learning from.
'seek out failure' - great creative advice. Rob has nailed the basic idea is to experiment first and foremost.
Great content! Rob’s video about Kubrick’s use of impossible spaces in The Shining made me an instant fan.

My two favourite film analysts. A very enjoyable conversation.

Thanks Ryan much appreciated, always awesome when you have a plan and a vision for doing good work and that work reaches like minded people.
Agreed completely on this comment
Rob Ager can change the way you see directors forever.

I wasn't expecting this morning on a weekend. Completely unexpected. Awesome convo.
Thanks glad to brighten up the day lol.
Really interesting conversation! Thanks for uploading :)
Loved the fact that you used the Malcolm-Alex of clockwork orange with his eyelids open as the background for this 🤘
Seemed appropriate since Robs work on Kubrick really inspired me!
MUST SEE FILMS hope to see more and hope you also grow as a creative director and producer soon.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, man. Pulling out the notebook!
Could Rob have been talking about Edward Burns? The director who wrote him that email.
Thanks for the upload I enjoyed this

Great interview, though for some reason I kept expecting you to talk about that fantastic long blue to the left corner.
Rob is incredible- he needs to write books on The Shining
I'd read that book!
Great video! You've got yourself a new subscriber.
Thanks, it was great chatting to Rob, not many people think and work they way he does!
Rob is a handsome lad
Interesting talk. I liked the Alien video with the 35 trivia bits, it was very funny.

The only thing that could be better than this is a three-way with Leon Thomas.
Yeah iv actually asked Leon to be on the show but not sure if he got my message, he's on my list to speak to, so would be awesome if that happens.
The audio on this is rubbish!
Sorry, Hopefully you'll still be bale to take away some useful points!
What?
Looks kinda like a young Paul McCartney.
Robs hatred for Christopher Nolan is paralleled
Rob is a pretentious fellow.
