I didn't do parsley this year, and the number of recipes my husband found that needed fresh parsley was comical. I will be getting it next year. Buying herbs like this saves so much money at the grocery store. I might have paid $5/herb plant, but I saved over $30.

For sure! If you're buying a ton of plastic packages of herb leaves at $5 each, that adds up quick.

I followed your method of allowing the plants to create cover for the soil and left the overgrown/spent parsley for the ladybugs. This morning I evaluated next steps for the area and uncovered a clutch of 16 quail eggs in a nest made of the straw that I had previously used as mulch. I guess the parsley plants stay up for another month.

I dehydrate my parsley quickly in the microwave. At the end of the season I leave the last crop. The caterpillars love it and I love the swallowtail butterflies they become.

HELP! After discovering the eggs in the morning, at night I found my lettuce covered in bugs. The bugs had DEVOURED my potato plant leaves and all my lettuce.

Keep the parsley for sure. What kind of bugs? I'd pull all the lettuce (it might be too hot for them anyway). Your potatoes might be okay.

Do perennials come back well in containers?

I’ve had really good luck bringing my herbs back in containers. I just give them at least an inch layer of leaf mulch in the fall and group the containers all together in a protected area.

If you bring your container indoors during freezes, then they'll slow their growth a bit but never die back

I know that Rosemary and basil gave different watering needs, so that is not going to work. Some spread out and some stay small and compact. I think they all need their own spaces.

I've been planting this way for years, and the herbs do great together. If you have a larger container, put rosemary on the outside and basil on the inside, where the soil stays moist longer, to account for their different watering needs. Pruning/harvesting weekly will also keep the herbs compact.
