I won’t lie I’m 41 years old from a small town in Mississippi and I always loved watching and rooting for Davey Allison until his passing, then dale sr was my next favorite driver and I loved nascar when he was racing and the day he passed away was the last nascar race that I ever watched. Nascar just didn’t have that “it” factor after that. But I love dale jrs podcasts it’s so cool hearing these stories
0:41 I remember Steve Park, this man had a memory like an elephant. Every time I met him the man knew how I was and what we talked about last time. John force is the same way. Love guys who can recall every thing. They are great great.
i cant believe he was able to win that truck race years ago. Listening to him in victory lane, he still sounded like he had some cognitive issues. And that was years after his bad wrecks. He was probably a hof talent. Shame he got hurt. Very smart guy though. Glad he seems to be at least 90% now mentally.
The brain injuries messed him up bad in 2001. I remember in 2005 even he still sounded awful. Glad he is recovering fully and great when he won that K&N race 10 years after Dale’s death.
Steve Park... One of the best DEI ever had, but you can only wonder how good he would've been had he gotten hurt... Classic memory: Winning at Rockingham after Dale Sr was killed and does a polish lap, and waves a no. 3 hat... Priceless memories that money cannot buy
Steve is a great guy, and I always felt so bad when he would get hurt. I believe he is a great talent, and the fact that he helped build the cars that Jr won back to back Busch championships with is a testament to his intelligence.
Rookie of the year AND the championship. I remember watching one of those Richmond races on a Friday night when Jr said afterwards that they had hit on something with their shorttrack program and he didn’t know if NASCAR was gonna let them keep running it like that. Now I know exactly what he was talking about. Also saw Steve’s crash when the wheel came off. Bad things happen to good ppl all the time. Tragic
Steve Park was one of my favorite drivers as a little kid. His 2001 accident made me so sad because he was in the beginning stages of the prime of his career and was 10th in points at the time, and this essentially ended all that. At the end of 2003, he was out of the cup series, and a few years later was out of Nascar altogether. One of the biggest what ifs in Nascar history. Glad to see he's talking better and doing well.
2001 imo is when NASCAR died, but, 3 moments that I always will emember was Harvick's win, Park winning at Rock and you Dale Jr, coming from 6th to 1st with 7 laps to go at the Pepsi 400. Man!! NASCAR is not the same afterwards. Thank you Dale, Dale Jr, Harvick and Park.
NASCAR continued growth after 2001 but I think with Dale's death(2001), Winston getting pushed out(2004) and the changes to the points the same year is all three what lead to NASCAR starting in it's decline to what it is today. Let's not forget those horrendous looking COTs. I still cringe. Also, they left North Wilkesboro, Rockingham and took a date from Darlington to go to these cookie cutter tracks and pretty much "gave the bird" to the original fans and the roots of the sport to chase the big money. They got the big money but now they are paying for it with empty stands. You know it's bad when tracks remove grandstands and start painting seats to "look full" on raceday.
What y'all are doing is exactly what us as fans wanted. Great content, the stories are real, some great memories and I personally thank you. My two 11yr old sons are huge NASCAR fans, and they sit and listen to the podcast with me, then to see it in pictures they love it too.
Its crazy watching how much dale loves his dad, learning about how he helped guide so many young men knowing he wasn't one of them at first. Kerry as well but he's not spiteful like most would be out of jealousy. That love is very genuine and rare in today's world.
Good to see Steve has recovered so well. I remember one of his first interviews back, he sounded so off with his speech. It was quite concerning at the time. But his recovery seems to be fantastic
As a northeastern racing fan, Steve Park was one of my heroes. Came from running Mods to racing and WINNING for Dale Sr. another hero of mine in racing. The story about "Redheaded Step-Child" brought back some good memories of watching Steve kick the absolute shit out of everyone in the Busch Series and sitting on the couch with my dad (Who helped Richie Evans build his first race car) telling him "See, we still have some damn good talent in this area." 20 years later Stewart Friesen and Ryan Preece are representing that Northeast modified fan base. Steve Park was a BIG DEAL for all of us.
I remember me and my cousin sneaking in the pits in Daytona during one of the july races and meeting Steve Park when he drove the one car. He was one of the nicest drivers that I have ever had the opportunity to meet.
Miss seeing ole Park in that yellow Pennzoil fire suit. He was a great driver and I know most of us Nascar fans miss seeing him out there turning laps. Miss you Steve.
Those DEI days with Park and Jr and Mikey, man, hearing those stories. This was the height of NASCAR, and Steve's rooming in Sr's house and Jr's fired from the dealership. You think they'd all be plush with cash and had guys to do the cars, but they were still down there in the oil of it all. I like modern NASCAR, but the stories like these are one of a kind. These stories don't happen any more.
Haha Dale Sr. was a great guy and probably a little hard to work for at times because he was such a damn good competitor. Steve Park is a class act and I hated to see his career get cut short. You know Dale knew how to pick talent, Park has both talent and great character.
Nice to see Steve on here. Great stories. I liked Steve when he raced too bad he got hurt. I like Jr's program its entertaining and funny stories keeps me laughing. We need good hearted laughs these days fir sure.
I was lucky enough to meet Steve Park at a truck race before he started his cup career. Friend's with Jack Sprague's younger sister and she took me to a couple of Jack's truck races. I.R.P race track and the Milwaukee mile. Cherished memories.
steve park is a class act love to hear him tell his stories damn sure miss seeing him behind the wheel of a race my favorite was when he won rockinghamn in 2001
I remember the days working in a race engine shop across 123 from Greenville Pickens Speedway... going over to JB Day's River shop or Greg Porter's and firing off fresh late model engines, getting them ready to run laps in the morning... those were the days...
Extraordinarily admirable. So many bright minds making big things happen through lots and Lots and LOTS of time completely consuming the entire life along the way. Total commitment to excellence. What made the nation king...extremely excellent, mega talented people hell bent on winning with no talk about just good enough being just good enough. No, it must be a winner! Awesome folks. Sure do revel in the body of work stories of hero achievers from times past 🏁🏁
Steve is an awesome guy. Hate he had the darlington accident he was really taking off at that point shame such a freak accident took him out at a high point.
My favorite episode yet. Loved Steve Park , one of my all time favorites and Jr. talking about the early days of DEI. Would love to see Michael Waltrip on the show soon.
Great to see Steve Park looking good and sounding good. I know he had to put in some work to get back to this. Jr you have to get him back on the schedule for another show. The late 1990's till 2001 were a great time in Nascar. You could still do a little with the cars and you could still have some personality. There are most likely many more stories Steve could tell and a few more things you didn't know for next time. Great show!!
Good to see Steve feeling better and sounding great. I always feel like he came back too early, he was in shape and he could do all the stuff he used to, but he needed at least another year to recover. I think that he would have better luck if he had taken his time and recovered.
Thompson speedway one of the best tracks here in the Northeast boy it made ya proud when Park was driving for the big time with DEI. Good times great person
David Alves Dave then I’m sure you all talked of his near fatal crash at Darlington the steering wheel coming off &him getting T boned a brutal hit!!personally it ruined him.His Motorsports career pretty much over.He still has a wonderful outlet on life.
I probably sat down even next to you having some brews and telling stories because I used to run a late model at Thompson and I also helped a tour modified team as well and we parked right next to Steve Parks’ trailer many times and then after racing had a couple libations. Steve was like just one of the guys, a real cool dude not full of himself with a big head and ego so I did enjoy speaking with him! Just like Steve I wound up with a Trumatic brain injury that has screwed me up for unfortunately the rest of my life because it’s been pretty much two decades with my head in a fog and ringing in both of my ears on a constant basis from an off the track automobile accident, the girl hit me from behind doing almost 60 while I was at a standstill. So I know what he’s going through, Junior as well.
So glad you had Park on. He is my all time favorite. The stories just remind you that life will never be like it was in the old days. Great job and great stories
So good to see Steve Park again, was fan of his, still am, would love to some how get his autograph, so nice to get these uploads every week, always been a Earnhardt fan, hopefully Jeffrey will have more success this year as well, thanks jr for the podcast

Sooo awesome to see Steve Park again! Thank you Dale Jr.! Please bring him back again, love hearing him talk about his experiences both at home and in his NC/Busch/Cup days! I loved the look of the #1 Pennzoil car and the #8 and #15 cars and how they had the same look, i.e. the 3 lines from bumper to bumper!
It's so good to see Steve doing well. He may have went on to be one of the greats if not for the accidents. The wrecks at Atlanta and Darlington were awful.
Love the Diecast cars on the table. I'm hunting that Wrangler blue yellow car, is the only one I'm missing in my collection. My 1st was the Black Goodwrench #3 with the Plus word on the front hood Dale Earnhardt Diecast which is the one he used to win his only Daytona 500 in 98.
Like others have said (typed ), I never knew Steve Park used to work on cars before, becoming a NASCAR driver, with that being said, he would've had a very good understanding of what changes a car would've needed during practice/ qualifying, and during a race to help make the car better.
Wow, I met a guy who was hosting a party in the early 2000's in Marboro, Ma, that told me the same story that Steve told, about Dale Sr. racing through the electric gate with his truck on the farm. If I remember correctly, his name was Billy Bob, y'all don't laugh to hard now. Sounds like he did that often.
I won’t lie I’m 41 years old from a small town in Mississippi and I always loved watching and rooting for Davey Allison until his passing, then dale sr was my next favorite driver and I loved nascar when he was racing and the day he passed away was the last nascar race that I ever watched. In my opinion, Steve Park is one of the very few authentic NASCAR personalities to have ever made it from New York and lived the dream.
I wouldn't call Steve park a bad driver, just a driver who never got to reveal his full potential let us remember steve parks career
@Chris Musson He’s from East Roseboro in Long Island.
From long island with him
Much better representative of NY that the the friggin Bodine brothers.
0:41 I remember Steve Park, this man had a memory like an elephant. Every time I met him the man knew how I was and what we talked about last time. John force is the same way. Love guys who can recall every thing. They are great great.
Good to see Steve Park looking better and sounding better. Glad to see some of the original DEI guys telling stories.
Couldn't of said it better myself there brother🙏
i cant believe he was able to win that truck race years ago.
Sorry, the K&N win was in 2013, not 2011.
Steve Park... One of the best DEI ever had, but you can only wonder how good he would've been had he gotten hurt... Classic memory: Winning at Rockingham after Dale Sr was killed and does a polish lap, and waves a no. 3 hat... Priceless memories that money cannot buy
I remember that moment very vividly!
I wanted him to win so badly after Earnhardt died.
Park actually cried in the post race interview.
@@timg2088 Totally Understandable
Steve Park was and still is a class act. God Bless.

Exactly
Still to this day I'd say he still has mad skills !
So very true!!!!
I had no idea Steve Park worked on his cars. Even more respect for the guy now. Love the show!!!
Steve park was underrated
Steve Park was one of my favorite drivers as a little kid. Steve Park is one humble, car smart, cool dude.
Steve is one of the best humans on this earth
Agreed! It's a shame he never got a chance to reach his full potential.
Agreed. Such a great guy to talk to also. Met him and we talked for almost 20 minutes outside the driver's meeting building at Daytona.
He started it all
That original D.E.I. crew was a real deal band of brothers like Skynyrd '75-'76. Love these stories from the inner circle.

@@swirvinirvan3789that’s not true. They removed benches, why? Downhill…..
I’d like this video 100 times if I could. I love this story. And Jr’s reaction to finding out why the cage was red is priceless lol
The best part of these Dale Sr. stories is often times Dale Jr is hearing it for the first time too, just as we are...

I loved that he mentioned Andy santerre. He was so good in Busch north. I'm from Maine. Santerre hit bad luck. I loved cheering for the hometown boy.

Red headed step child story made me smile.. Man I love hearing the old gaurd talk about the 90's and early 2000's
If not for his injuries Park would have had more wins, also his love for Sr ., shows through.
Miss seeing ole Park in that yellow Pennzoil fire suit. He was a great driver and I know most of us Nascar fans miss seeing him out there turning laps. Miss you Steve.
Hearing these guys talk in detail about the differences in chassis design is an absolute Godsend for an engineering nerd
I'm from Dublin IRELAND and I started looking at NASCAR when Juan Pablo Montoya went there and I became a big Fan. I wish it was still on TV here
nascar puts all the races on youtube in their entirety. They usually go up on the tuesday following the race.

Steve Park and Dale Jr talk like real brothers
