Thank you to everyone that corrected me in the comments! I had never even heard of Ren when I pressed play on this video. This is completely blind with 0 context. I just ASSUMED he recorded it in a studio and this wasn’t a live performance because… that’s what always happens in music videos 👀
If you watch any of my other videos you will see that I actually am way more somber and focused in this reaction (to a 9 min song mind you) probably because of his artistry and because of the subject matter. Wait till you see how heavily distracted I am in literally everything else. ❤
I don't think I've ever seen you this quiet and focused in a reaction. As you can tell, a lot of people feel this song VERY personally (as do I), but I find it odd that many are commenting like the "negative Ren" and trying to tear you down. It's almost as if they didn't get the message. Anyway, thanks for putting yourself and your reaction out there and don't take the comment section too seriously.
@@kylefrandsen2665 I’ve seen this a lot on reactions to Ren when the reactor doesn’t have the same profound emotional experience as they did. It’s pretty ugly to be honest. The “we are human beings” monologue at the end seems to have been lost on them - ironic really.
I was about to say it's a one take performance for the front on camera shots, with different angles filmed afterwards...but it's not a dumb assumption to think it was prerecorded...in a way it is 😅.
Chalk outlines and the 3 parts of the tale of jenny and screech are all one take performances, and i think you'll love watching those, even if they're quite dark
You shouldn't get blocked, Ren's stated that he won't copy strike anyone for reacting, and if youtube does, you can contest it with his blessing
The people who know Ren know he does these 1 take videos a lot, but most who are encountering him for the first time think as you did there's nothing wrong with your assumption. If you study other reactions to this video (especially first time reactions to the artist) most people reach the exact same conclusion less than 5% infer that it's live. You shouldn't feel bad if anything it proves it's an honest first impression.
You need to do his light hearted stuff it will suit you better try losing it and the hunger xxx
Good things to know about Ren:
1: this was performed live and audio is a single take…only took 4 tries. Video has a few cuts for closup shots, but the audio is continuous. Ren clearly likes pushing the boundaries of filmed musical performance. Jenny and Screech is 3 single 1-take moving audio and video performances. And before everyone yells at you, do a reaction to the full versions with all 3 tales.
2: Ren has been very sick for a long time. He was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. He was misdiagnosed for many years and treated for mental disorders and chronic fatigue instead of the actual disease he had. The combination of the psychiatric drugs he took and years of untreated Lyme disease left him in a state where he would spend 23 hours a day in bed. He was finally properly diagnosed with Lyme disease and related autoimmune issues and got stem cell treatments that made him feel better, but he is still quite ill. He wrote this song, Sick Boi, and a few others that haven’t come out yet, but is currently in Canada receiving intensive daily treatments so he can’t fully enjoy the success he is finally getting…though he has been watching reaction videos and commenting on them, so don’t be shocked if he drops by.
3: He got his start busking in London and Brighton, is talented in just about every facet of making music, and was signed by Sony right before he got sick. He was unable to produce music so Sony dropped him. He’s a staggering talent who writes performs, directs, sings, raps (Ren can Rap Rap), produces, plays most instruments, and and is clearly an incredible actor. Waiting for his first streaming series.
4: he collaborates with lots of other cool artists…you’ll enjoy his collaborations with Chinchilla. He also has a band called The Big Push
5: Go and read his community page…it’s worth it

Thanks for all the information!
Thanks!! Saves me the typing!! 👍
6. If you get blocked, just appeal it, and his team will clear it up. He loves reactors
Ren is a Bard-Arse Welsh busker that honed his craft on the streets of Brighton, England. Only took him 10 years to finally get the recognition he deserves.
Hea been pretty big over seas he was signed to Sony before he got sick and tbey dropped him when he did get sick
You're wrong about the recording. This was recordedlive, in a single take, with multiple cameras. He shoots most of his videos this way. If you even poke your head into Ren's rabbit hole, you'll quickly come to realise that he's a genuine artistic, lyrical and creative genius. A genius full-stop, in fact! He's an amazing songwriter, a world-class lyricist, a poet really. He creates in multiple genres, brilliantly. He even has his own subgenre, 'bardcore'. :) He has a beautiful voice, that's capable of multiple styles and tones. He beatboxes really well, he's a world-class rapper. Oh and he's a incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist, playing 7 different instruments and not just playing them well but playing them ridiculously well! Acoustic and electric guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, piano/keyboard and drums. All self-taught too! He lays down all his own music/beats, producing all his own music.
He manages all this despite suffering from extremely debilitating and incurable, chronic illnesses, which I'll leave to others to elaborate, as this post is too long as it is. The icing on the cake, is that he's a genuine and decent, down-to-earth guy. Deeply compassionate, highly intelligent and with a wicked sense of humour. I've been diving into Ren's back catalogue for months and have yet to encounter a bad track! A dozen, at least, are bona fide masterpieces! You hear the same refrain from reactor after reactor, viewer after viewer., of all ages and backgrounds. I'd say roughly 98 to 99% of thise who delve into his world fall in love with both him and his music! It's definitely worth delving further. If you do turn out to be part of that 1 or 2%, so be it. No harm done. :)
HE DID IT LIVE!
He does his videos Live, usually in one take! He's a Massive Busker in the UK... he has the performance skills to do it!
See his Jenny and Screech... you'll see!
Also... be prepared to be Blown away!
MASTER Level singing, guitar, storytelling and poetry!
Given the theatricality of Ren's 'performance' in this video, I would have expected you to 'get' it more than most, but somehow you didn't seem to, and even listening to your comments at the end the theatrical aspects (lighting, acting, voices, even the cinematography choices) just didn't seem to warrant much comment from you. It was definitely a reaction, just felt like an odd one, given your background.
Well, that was...interesting. I've never seen that kind of reaction to this. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Someone comment on an other reaction to the guy saying that he was sorry for being so emotional, the comment was : It's not those who cry to Ren's music that afraid me, it's more those who don't get emotional that I'm afraid for! I think it's so true.....
@@celinel9750 Thought exactly that when I saw that reaction. Hope she will open herself.
That was a very clever and polite way to put it, but I'll say it anyway. That was the worst review so far, and have seen several dozen. Ren's great.
@@barboelter To be clear, my comment did not imply judgement of any kind. I meant exactly what I said: Ms. Sellick's reaction was interesting, I've never seen that kind of reaction to this piece before, and I'm glad she found it enjoyable.
OK there all-knowing "theatre kid"....
I love how you are so confident in yourself that you refuse to even CONSIDER the fact that it is live. Your confidence was SO extreme, in fact, you didn't bother to even watch for lip-syncing. Because if you did you would have commented on how he was the best lip-syncer in existence.
Besides that, you laughed like you were watching a stand-up skit, you swayed back-and-forth like it was a top40 pop hit...
To say this reaction was "off-the-mark" would be kind. You must be one of those rare people who has never had to overcome struggle in their life. The term "adversity" means absolutely nothing to you.
^^
All of this, is quite literally the only way that I am able to make sense of what I just watched.
Just another off the beat bobblehead reactor in my opinion lol
“Bard-Core” 🤘🏽
Whoosh...the sound of the meaning of this song passing by the reactor by. Still, it's a different reaction for sure so i guess that's good.
Oh did you say bard? Ren actually calls this genre Bardcore :) (although he does lots of genres, hip-hop, reggae, ballads, spoken word, guitar based eclectic stuff as solo; blues rock, punk rock etc. with his band The Big Push.
The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) is THE next Ren song (songs in this case, 3 of them in one, with a continuous narrative) you need to react to :). More theatrical than this one, again with acoustic guitar + rapping./singing. He shot those 3 videos as single take ones with live sound recording (this one's audio is recorded live as well, uses video from 2 different takes)
This is sang live... OBVIOUSLY
But it’s not obvious. Though it’s OBVIOUS to you because you’ve obviously ventured down the Ren “rabbit hole” and know pretty much everything there is to know about this song by now. Relax.
@@mynameisfen when you can clearly see a lapel mic, and can hear the reverb from the room he’s in, it should be OBVIOUS. I only capitalized since you did, but come on now
@fen no.. It is pretty obvious it's live even with no context on ren. Or at the very least, there are enough clues to make someone wonder whether or it is or not, rather than flippantly and declaratively asserting that it isn't live, with no real signs of that other than how well performed it is. No biggie except I see you defending her throughout this thread and it was a flub that she oughta just own and you ought not try to defend with that flimsy logic 🤷
@@Gmavlnpah this was last week. I no longer care.
He clearly performed the vocals in situ, in one take. He's clearly performing the visuals in situ. It is not necessarily the *same* take, though, and I'm pretty sure isn't, at least in two places where his vocals don't match his mouth, until it comes back together at the end. There are also visual cut points where they could switch back and forth. Seeing how good the camera work is, I suspect they absolutely could and we'd barely notice. (Oh, wait.)
That's not to detract from his performance at all. He never had to have done it all in one take in the first place to be *amazing*, but now certain people have labeled him a messiah, and can't hear argument to their hero worship, however small.
Not blaming Ren. Think he's still figuring out how to deal with this snowballing a lot faster than he expected. (Good Ren should have known better. 😅 You can't "inspire the meek to be strong" and not expect them not to follow you around like a puppy.)
I’ve never seen anyone giggle all the way thru this so that was unique. I think you enjoyed it even tho you doubted it was recorded live and thought he was just great at lip syncing for 10mins
I mean, you can tell that Charis enjoyed it (or at the very least, appreciated it). Not only was she quieter and less bouncy than usual, you can see her eyes glistening up multiple times throughout the video. The liquid feels may not have leaked out and run down her cheek but they were in there. Also, she threw in complimentary asides in several places as the song went on (when she wasn't engrossed in the video). And, at the end, she was very clear that she liked it, said what an insane guitarist Ren is, etc.
Idk if you were ever a theater kid (I was and Charis was and/or is). Theater kids are often more continually performative than your average human, so it makes total sense that Charis's way of interacting with a video like this is to laugh, mimic certain words or sounds after Ren makes them, make funny faces, dance in a silly, spazzy way to match Ren's chromatic guitar dramatics, etc. I can't speak for why exactly she reacted specific ways at specific moments but I can say for performers, particularly actors and singers, sometimes the beauty, artistry, and/or craftsmanship of a moment in a movie, tv show, book, game, or whatever will make you laugh... but it's with joy at the exquisiteness of (or surprise at) the moment's artistry, not in derision.
Similarly, you know one thing that actors and singers REALLY like to do? Mimic strange, interesting, or cool voices and sounds right after they hear them. Why? Because, as an actor and/or singer, your instrument is your body and your voice. If you're an artist standing there with your instrument and you hear another artist make an interesting, out of the ordinary sound, the natural tendency for a performer is to try to repeat the sound to (1) feel it in your own mouth, like trying it on for size; (2) see if you can even do it; and (3) figure out how to make the sound (or your own variation/offshoot) so you could potentially add something like it to your vocal arsenal. The number of girlfriends I've had get mad at me because we're sitting there watching a movie, somebody says a line in a cool way, and I suddenly feel compelled to repeat the line in their voice and/or delivery is ridiculous. Or appropriate. Idek anymore.
And Charis dancing increasingly crazily to the sound of Ren's increasingly crazy-sounding chromatic guitar runs is another way a performer might interact with a piece of music that they're enjoying. Why? Because, in a way, they're trying to interface with the moment by joining it. They're feeling it by jumping into the moment in a tactile way. And if that musical moment starts intensely building in an unusual and shaky-seeming way, a natural performer who's into it is going to match the craziness and shakiness with their movements... just like Charis did.
@@johnplaysgames3120 still you’d think with someone with such great experience in such things would be able to tell he wasn’t lip syncing but maybe she ain’t learned about that bit of live artistry yet and just thinks everyone lip syncs coz most of the popular not highly talented successful plasticine artists do these days.
I've seen one other reactor who found the song humorous throughout. I don't get it. *shrug* It does give the impression she's missing something. Something major.
@@PoliticallyPink Ditto from me. I have watched many many reactions to Hi Ren and my thoughts were she is very shallow and just missed the whole message. Even after Rens closing narrative she ends with saying how does he remember all the lines.... I may watch a few more of her reactions before I consider subscribing.
It helps to remember lyrics if you're the one to write them
100% lol
I think the reason this hits harder on older people generally speaking, is that you probably have gone through more hardship and can relate more. Of course there are younger ppl aswell that gets it, but I think it’s easier if you’ve been there yourself.
I just said this exact same thing earlier today. This song is from people who’ve been through some sh*t.
I do agree that many older people will get "Hi Ren," but I don't know that it hits particularly "harder" for older people. Anybody who pursues creative endeavors, works in a creative field, or feels or thinks deeply at all, whether they're a tween, a teen, a 20-something, or 55+, is VERY familiar with that critical inner voice that Ren depicts here. Anybody with a chronic mental or physical issue or illness, no matter what age they are, will also feel this song pretty hard. And most anybody who has any sort of insecurities or is self-conscious about themselves in any way -- like, y'know, pretty much every human being on Earth, whether they're 8 or 80 -- will recognize the battle taking place between the two Rens.
Tbh, judging by the size of the self-help, cosmetics, fashion, and diet industries, not to mention today's 24/7 stampede toward fame and internet stranger validation through "likes" (likes mostly based on edited, curated photos and manufactured/engineered stories that only vaguely (if at all) resemble the person's real life and personality), the words "insecure" and "self-conscious" seem to describe about 98.9% of humans (which might actually be a conservative estimate, but I'm leaving a little room for sociopaths and the possible existence of any weirdo outliers who actually are well-adjusted (assuming anybody actually is, which I don't)). So, I think it's safe to conclude that internal insecurities and self-doubt are just a part of human nature, however old the human in question might be. Either way, I honestly believe "Hi Ren" is age-agnostic in its reach.
In fact, while I've been working on an art piece today, I've had reactions to "Hi Ren" playing pretty much non-stop on my second monitor and, I gotta tell you, I've seen more people in their 20s and early 30s crying at this song today than I saw cry in all the movies I watched last year. In fact, I haven't seen one reactor yet who wasn't devastated, teary, or at least veeeerrryyyy thoughtful at the end of the video. Maybe you have... but, if so, then I might suggest that you're watching bad reactors. Believe me, I've unsubscribed from my fair share of them.
So, yeah, I hear what you're saying -- and there may very well be a particular context for that inner voice that hits harder for older people (sort of the way Pink Floyd's "Time" hits harder the older you get) -- but I just wanted to mention that, in my own personal experience and in the many, MANY other people's experiences I've watched today, age does not really seem to be a factor in strength or type of reaction. Ren is moistening eyeballs across a wide spectrum of ages, backgrounds, and issues.
Ren is from Brighton, UK
It was not overdubbed OBVIOUSLY!!!
Glad you found it funny though, not many have giggled all the way through this.
Thought you might have worked out the theatricality of the lights, and how they changed with the persona that was singing.
I know right? 😮 Still, genuine and truthful reactions are valid. And there have been lots of those.
Why does everyone have to get it the same way you did? Some people it resonates in a profound way, some see it as entertaining (as she did), some just don’t get it at all. That’s art. No need to be angry or frustrated that she wasn’t moved to tears.
@@mynameisfen You are right. It niggled me that I'd been intolerant of the reaction. It's sometimes a challenge to stay rational where Ren's art is concerned. But you called it and I heard it. 👍
@@mynameisfen They don't, everyone is entitled to an opinion, The reactor is entitled to an opinion, and I am entitled to an opinion on the reaction.Who is angry or frustrated?
I was suprised at the giggling, not angry, I was also suprised that someone with the word 'Theatre' in their name didn't get the theatre in the performance. I wasn't angry, frustrated, or rude, I had some comments, or is that not allowed?
@@kevins2961 sorry, I should’ve used the term “passive aggressive” instead.
I sometimes actually think it’s a blessing when this doesn’t hit hard! I’ve been moved deeply by this but I have shown my children, who are either side of 20 and though they appreciate his talent they seem little effected!
On the flip side, there are some that may not be ready to explore this side of themselves yet!
With regards to not thinking it’s live, it’s a compliment!
Be kind people!
All live! They're using multiple cameras with a video switcher to jump between the cameras.
But he does a lot of his videos with a live performance.
He's absolutely incredible. Keep going down the Ren music rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed.
Do Chalk Outlines LIVE next. And keep going. He's incredible
This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.
Ren fans are going to give you a doing for this reaction
I actually enjoyed it as a Ren fan :)
@@nondetection8882 I think Ren would be pleased if people are entertained and happy for those who don't identify personally with the subject matter.
Not really. We see her innocence. I am happy she hasn't been through many struggles. Give her 20 years or so, she may understand then.
There's a few of us Ren fans already behaving obnoxiously in the comments section.

I love the lyrics after "Newsflash...". Amazing rhyming and illustration of concepts and mastefully delivered.
If I remember correctly from another reaction video, Ren actually views himself as a modern day bard. I've not run across many who make that connection, especially from 0 context; so I was impressed that it was the 1st thing you started talking about in the review portion of this video.
You won't get blocked, he wants this circulated and talked about. He's had his music career pulled out from under him by chronic illness a couple of times and keeps coming back.
This was absolutely recorded live. It took more than one take, and I'm not sure how much was recorded through the lavalier mike and how much through camera mike or out-of-sight boom mike, but he performs almost all his videos live (amazing!). Ren will also go out of his way to whitelist your reaction, he loves reactors and often comments himself on the videos.
A lot of the audio is set above. It's been attitude just a bit. The lights flickering is an example. You sound like you know something about engineering. Just go back and watch it again and you can see where there are a couple areas within the track that have been edited. Still unbelievable talent
Born in Wales but lived most of his life in Brighton England.
Some Ren fans who feel personally aggrieved that someone wasn’t profoundly affected by the piece in the same way as they were might do well to remember “And I must not forget, we must not forget, that we are human beings.” - we’ve not all danced the same dance or walked the same broken path.
I don't see that many comments in that vein, though well done on making yourself feel virtuous and superior! :)
@@Codex7777 nah man, you got the wrong person for faux virtue bollocks. This was months ago anyway, you need to move on.
@@mynameisfen If you don't want to be seen as doing 'faux virtue bollocks' don't indulge in it. There was no other purpose for posting what you did, as the overwhelming majority of comments were nothing like that. I suppose you could have some personal vendetta against Ren and/or his fans but that would be even more petty and more than a little sad... As for 'moving on', you do know how social media works, don't you? Replies are rarely instantaneous. Your comment was new to me. It was you that chose to return to it, so perhaps you should heed your own advice? Though somehow I suspect you won't, lol. :)
@@Codex7777 Just scrolled through and it looks as though most of the vindictive comments were deleted - there was some crazy sh*t said. A lot of people really went in on her and I just thought it went beyond “fans” protecting their favourite artist type stuff, all because she didn’t get emotional or proclaim it’s genius. Didn’t think she deserved any of it, she said she liked it, just not moved in the same way most are by it. Are you done now?
EDIT: I’m a big Ren fan. Just some of his fans can get a bit “spikey” if someone doesn’t react how they think they should.
@@mynameisfen Ren is overrated anyway, MGK makes way better music.
No this is live, most of his videos are live one take’s
That’s very very cool and unexpected!
@@CharisSellick He is also a n amazing Rapper!
Other folks pointed it out, but yes this was recorded live. In four takes.
This songs deep about mental health why she's laughing
Thank you for a new New.
I didn't know I needed another.
it was live in 4 takes, he regularly works live
Never seen such a cheerful review of this song
He's likely to be singing it live. Check his other stuff too, you'll spot a trend. The guy's the real deal, and you can hear room noise, street noise, etc.
Lol he did sing it live. That's the fun part
"He's not singing this live." LOL -- No worries, I felt the same way. Flabbergasted
Ren calls this genre "Bardcore", which becomes even more fitting upon watching "The Tale of Jenny & Screech".
I've seen you been moved to tears and really empathize and understand artists countless times before on this channel, so I was definitely expecting this to hit way harder for you than it apparently did. If this didn't do it for you, then I promise there's probably a dozen other songs from Ren that will. Once I started listening to his back catalog, "Hi Ren" went from an amazing and special masterpiece to "oh, it's just another Ren song". Pretty much every song he does from any genre he chooses to do is top notch.
I'm not being critical of your reaction but its so interesting when someone totally misses the point.
It’s wild to see people that get it and people that don’t, drastic difference
this song is a example of what 50% of the ppl battle with the bad voice in your head trying to put you down. its a very powerfull song physiologic battle with your self is a battle none can help you with untill you ask for help. but that the hardest step to make. but its 100% worth it believe me.
Ren grew up busking....live is where he feels most comfortable. All his stuff is live.
Thank God someone corrected her before I did lol.
He actaully did it all in one take both voices and playing the gituar while doing so
Bless you
Yes he is singing it live.
It IS okay to be just entertained...I don't think Ren will mind if some are NOT moved to tears and identify with mental health issues. The guy went through hell but I bet he's pleased for people who aren't affected by the subject of this song...we aren't all broken 😁 Another great piece by him is the Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full version). Dark and worryingly, always relevant subject matter.
This. So many Ren fans seem to be personally offended if a reactor doesn’t get it the same way they did. I mean it’s art, it’s all subjective.
There are among his fans a lot of ‘Ren fascists’.
@@supertuscans9512 I think it’s mostly to do with Ren’s illness and the subject matter of most of his songs. He’s attracted the “broken” (myself included) who really connect with him as a person affected by an autoimmune illness and the psychological trauma which comes with that. It’s just people being overprotective of both Ren and their own personal battles so they’re going above and beyond and taking it a bit too far.
@@mynameisfen Ren is an absolute inspiration to anyone who opens their eyes and ears. In musical terms too...pulling a respectful audience from polar opposite genre camps is a talent. Wishing you well.
You don't have to be broken to have Hi Ren move your soul, it's called Empathy.
The mic on his collar was for his live voice that you were listening to.
I understand that some reactors don't like to do any research before they listen to a song to ensure it's 100% raw and this may be you, but it would have been especially helpful for you to understand the context of it and how personal it was to him. I think having that knowledge would have given you a different perspective and allowed you to listen to it react differently.
ren himself, calls it Bardcore
If you get Demonetized Appeal it Ren allows all Reactors to Spread his Music. The information going around is the Audio and Video was recorded live in one take after 4 attempts, Ren was happy with the 4th take, i could be wrong but although he has a Lavalier Mic i'm pretty sure that must be a Dummy and overhead Mics were used because the Audio is so perfect, i'm sure more than one Mic was used and almost certaintly some mixing must of been done, the visuals are mostly the one take using 3 static and 1 handheld Camera, apart from some edits towards the end this information came from the Videographer who replied on another Reactors Channel., it may seem unbelievable that this could be 1 take but if you know Ren it isn't, there are multiple performances on RUclips of him performing his material Live, and he rarely messes up even the most complicated Lyrics. Check out for more Bardcore, Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full), make sure its the Full Trilogy version though.
Just watched your Tool reaction and since you enjoyed Maynard’s theatrical performance I wanted to make sure you knew about Ren.
👍🤛😎
Now you’ve seen this and “Murderer”, you should absolutely check out “The Tale of Jenny and Screetch and Violet’s tale” full version. Absolute performance genius!
Love your reactions so farM subscribing now 🤛🙃🙂
Yes, he is rapping )singing) and playing his guitar at the same time
This one of the genres he plays, he calls it bardcore
FYI...If YT ever gives you crap about copyright on any of his videos, he will personally fight it for you.
I'm not crying, you're crying.....😭
Enjoyed your reaction, thanks. Please have a look at more Ren material it'll be so worth it, I promise. Try the tales of Jenny and Screech and Violets tale (Full) it's an amazing trilogy.

Sometimes its better to not give an opinion, then guess.
Guesses are great! And then I can be corrected and then later I can be right! :)
Ty for the reaction, definitely Jenny. Screech and Violets tale trilogy, in that order so it makes sense for you. Very good, he calls it Bardcore.
i cry every time i see this
Ren was born in Wales and went to university in Bath were he studied music and then he lived in Brighton until he got Lyme disease and has to move to Canada to receiving treatment. I really hope he comes back to Brighton one day once he gets better so I can meet him and he him live.
Ren doesn't make copyright claims. On the offchance that RUclips or someone else makes such a claim, just appeal it and Ren automatically cancels the claim. So, no worries there. :)
I felt the same way when I reacted to this one but thankfully Ren is pretty open with his music and seems to be very supportive of creators in this space reacting to, analysing and sharing his music.
Thoughtful Comments 👍🏼
Cool voice 😋
Take care! You can drown even in a shallow stream. Avoid forests and trees if possible. Shalom!
He was born in Wales but lives in Brighton, England
It's not about a split personality. It's about the human condiyion. It's about learning to live with darkness. It's always there. It's part of life. It's part of who we are and it's part of what makes us who we are. Once you accept this fact, that you can't eliminate death, illness, heartbreak, fear, interpersonal strife etc things become a little better, as you're seeing the World as it actually is, rather than fighting, stressfully and frustratingly for an unachievable goal. Instead your view shifts to reality and you can start to mitigate what you can, start learning to cope with what you can't change and gain perspective, so that some things that seemed like problems no longer do so
Negative things have positive outcomes too, even the worst things. Honest perspective allows us to recognise this fact, though it may be difficult to see, whilst in the midst of the darkness. To give an example... One of the worst things to happen in my life, was my mother dying when I was 6. You may ask, how can anything much that was positive arise from that? It's true that it deeply impacted me in all sorts of ways, as it did to my father , sister and brother. However, the effects were not all negative. In some ways it made me wiser and stronger too. It made me and my sister and brother, incredibly close. A bond that endured. Admittedly, this closenesss, in turn, made by brother's death almost unbearable, as the pendulum swings once more. Most importantly and much as I hate to say it, without my mother's death, my 2 youngest brothers, 2 nieces and a nephew, would never have existed. Their existence is a huge positive in my life. I'm not saying any of these outcomes are compensation for my mother's death. It doesn't work like that. It just IS.
We all have doubts, fears, worries anxieties etc but even those things have positive effects. How long would a person who truly had no fear last? Fear can be debilitating but it's also a survival instinct. We're surrounded by light and shade. It's what life is. As Ren said, it is this eternal dance (with the light AND the dark) that separates human beings from angels, from demons, from gods... We must not forget that we ARE human beings. :)
For a theatre kid I thought you would know the difference from being live or not OBVIOUSLY
Yeah ‘cos theatre kids know all about sound engineering…
This was really weird. You either had no connection with the lyrics and didn't get the real message, or are coping with distress with laugher and dancing.
Fun fact: people with ADHD laugh when nervous.
@@thesellicksrock I have ADHD.
Wow! You have no idea what you've just watched... I think you need to do a little research about Ren then watch it again.
If you dig deeper into his work I'm confident you'll look back at this and realise how poor/wrong your take on it was.
Hope you do more of Ren, it'll be interesting to check your reactions out. I'll wait to subscribe until then.
Cheers 👍🍻
He calls his music. "Bardcore"
The video and song was done live
Also... he will fix it for ya if it does get blocked! Just fight it... He Wants reactors to be monetized!
The title "Theatre Kid reacts to Ren" was the red flag I missed to stop me watching this.
That’s literally the title. This is your fault. Lol
@@CharisSellick Yea, my fault, the word "Kid" was literally in the title.
@@redscouse8568the comments you’ve left this “kid” doesn’t exactly scream mature either, you could have just closed the video and kept going with your day instead you chose to leave a petty comment to someone you refer to as a kid…
not only is it live but done in one take
Just a clarification that while audio may have been recorded in a single take, the video is not a one-take video like some other Ren videos. Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed Hi Ren, clarifies that in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's reaction to the song.
Prepared for the emotional sledgehammering
Please do. Rens Chalk outline’s & chinchillas live version of fingers. It’s a masterpiece and very therapeutic & theatrical style
Just casually says piggy 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏
Awesome 💯
Being a bard is a great description for Ren. If you enjoy his bardic story telling The Tales of Jenny/Screech/Violet are great choices for him. If you want to hear him sing Chalk Outlines is good. If you want to hear him rap than Genesis is a nice choice. Ren doesn't miss though. Hope to hear you do more reactions of him!
Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed Hi Ren, talks about it in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's (Filmmaker Reacts) reaction to the song. Video is a combination of two takes with several edits, audio was recorded as a live session. ruclips.net/video/epOakEENUZw/видео.html
He did it in one take
As her mom, I see the tears in her eyes and the concern in her facial expressions. She is a naturally smily person.
Hi mom
Split personalities usually have different names these are both Ren.
Ren suffered from Psychosis, not split personality!
@@kevinsteele8874 Ren suffered from Lyme Disease
@@sketchtherapy1218 Did you not watch the monolog at the end of Hi REN, HE SAID he suffered from autoimmunity, illness, and PSYCHOSIS! My comment was in response to your comment about "split personalities." And yes he did also suffer from Lime Desise, which was misdiagnosed for an extended period of time, among other things.
@@kevinsteele8874 the psychosis comes from being told the lyme disease was all in his head and the psychotropics. Because Ren resonates with crazy people (including myself ) many people get triggered about anything relating to him. Go watch from his own channel on his youtube his youtube shorts and his insta you'll see him say it himself. Im pretty he had depression from problems in the home when he was young.
Like myself he is British but he has lived most his life in Brighton
First time viewer...forgive me... what is the water sound in your background?
Lol that’s my cats water fountain 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed Ren but I think you should watch it again and contemplate on your comment when you said this is not live. How ?
Actually it was done live. They did 4 takes and the 3rd one was the one they went with
That was OBVIOUSLY the most empathy-less and least mature reaction to this video I've come across so far (and I've really seen a lot of reactions to it).
It is actually live
FS. it was performed live.
The Tale of Jenny of Screech (FULL) trilogy is a shakespearen tragedy with phenomal musical theater aspects. Please check it out and prepare yourself for the plot twist.
You picked up the bard like quality and you're familiar with the Iliad; I watched alot of reactors and I'm not critical that you stayed upbeat throughout your reaction. Stay positive it is refreshing.✨💖🙏🏻🇺🇸🇬🇧🌹💐
You should check out The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version) by Ren.
This was live 😂
the lights have meaning, they only flicker with bad ren, welcome to modern bardic performances
It was live
please down the REN rabbbit hole if you dare . there is alot to come....
