Hi Nikol! I recently turned 70 and I'm actually retired from Nordstrom. I have most of the staples you just shared. I love your new and fresh approch to styling them. I guess, even a personal shopper can learn new tricks! I'm so happy I found your channel, thank you!
I am so with you on the blazer. I always feel more put together when I wear a blazer
I too love blazers....however I live in the tropics abroad. Usually it is too warm to wear mine daytime but evenings they are a stand in for a coat which is never necessary here. I do get to wear them daytime November through February.
When I was in the USA this summer I bought a large variety of good quality blazer buttons in gold,,silver and mixed metal to replace the cheap plastic buttons on even formerly well buttoned brands...J Crew, Ann Taylor etc. These make all the difference IF the fabric is nice and the fit is excellent. I have several RL blazers I have found vintage. I did look for pearl or shell buttons for blouses but none were to be found.
I am a very fair blonde so black is not for me. My core wardrobe is ivory for my white, navy for my dark, and camel...these all work well for me...slacks and blazers in the same colors but these colors mix and match well. I have summer weight because I spend several mos in summer in my Chicago condo, then the rest of the year here. Those are my rest of the year blazers here. I have a few fill in thin flannel blazers and even some tweeds.
Re frumpy...I am so saddened how most people dress to travel...I have taken many nice cruises to Europe etc and men come on board in shorts and tshirts looking like they are going to mow the lawn. I know MANY of them eschew the dining room for dinner for the cafeteria food buffets . I cannot imagine WHY....they dress worse than they do on airlines! It cant be cost since these cruises cost thousands of dollars.
I am 76 and am constantly remarked to about my dress...men and women tell me I am beautiful, people say it in passing on the street, it is flattering but I was always just average looking. I havent had any facial surgery....I think they can see I am older of course, but they cant quite tell...HOW much older. It is the way I dress that they really are complimenting... they are no longer accustomed to seeing people well put together who are older.
I put thought and care into how I look. I dont spend a fortune, but I look "put together" and most people my age have just given up. Males and females, at least where I live.
I came here in early retirement at 50 and I had a friend who was in her 90s..she wore silk dresses and carried a lovely cane....the sea of people on the sidewalk parted for her. She was lovely but fragile and a talented artist. I remember thinking then , " I want to maintain myself at that age. "
Well here I am well into my 70s and I plan to maintain myself best I can for life...I enjoy how it lifts my spirits and I do it for me.
One thing I do in this tropical climate is always wear a very high quality panama hat,one in pure white the other in straw color they last for years ..I bought a terrific... Gibson girl hatpin to keep it safely on my head from wind gusts. At my age I wont be jogging down the street after it! Wear hats outdoors in summer and use Retin A religiously that is my advice...most people think I am in my 60s. I do still move well because I walk alot, do yoga and try to maintain fitness and posture.
I had a small cancer removed from my face about a decade ago having been a lifelong sailor...my dermatologist told me sunscreen really only screens out about 50% of the suns harmful rays even when it says 70% and after all, I do live VERY far south .
I knew you were a model, but I so enjoy your delivery of info. You speak as though we were on the same page. You are stunning and I am appropriately jealous. Thank you. ❤
Hi Nikol. Great video!! You remind me of a 1940’s Hollywood beauty. So sophisticated and classy, but very down to earth, real. I am so happy I found your channel. Because of you I am finding my beautiful self again. I’m 66.
Wow, thank you!
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! 💖I just turn 60 and fabulous, lol! thanks to Nikol !
I LOVE blazers and especially black ones with my jeans. Have worn that since the 70s and probably will until I pass on to Heaven.
A cute and well-fitting pair of slim loafers is something I wear over and over again for casual days and with jeans.
An absolute staple is a clean, crisp white t-shirt replaced at least yearly if not more often
I love your style! It is a classic, timeless look that I cling to!
Thank you 😊
Great pieces!
I used to be very heavy.. and as I was losing my weight I started going to some good thrift stores to find my new clothes for the new size.. I found a great black blazer.. and some great dark denim Old Navy jeans that totally changed the way I felt in my clothes.. I am loving 2023, I need to get back on track.. I’ve been down with migraines 🤦🏼♀️ my clothes have been mainly for comfort 😊
This is exactly what I needed. I love your fashion sense…such an inspiration. We’re never too “old” to learn. Please don’t stop doing what you’re doing - educating we older women that being beautiful and feeling beautiful, vibrant and attractive, isn’t just for the young, but also for those of us who are young in heart and spirit. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Nikol!
I absolutely LOVE blazers it is my staple, been wearing them since I was teen, turning 40 this year and absolutely love them! Have a beautiful collection that means the world to me! All your staples I've been rocking since a teen, thankful to having a fashion forward mama to thank for her style genes!
Since my late 20s I started to appreciate seeing older ladies looking put together and beautiful and even more acting gracefully in everyday life. Please don’t let the age to hold you from dressing impeccably and wonderfully. May be this happened because my mom wouldn’t dress or even make her hair unless she is going to the occasion and whatever I would do like buying outfits and skincare or makeup she is still dresses in mismatched comfy thrift store fleece pieces . This disappoints me so much, so when I see a lady who applied efforts before leaving the house I want to say her thank you for showing what a true lady should be!
I always wear a blazer if or a cardigan I'm in the uk and I'm always cold since I started taking blood thiners the trench coat is loverly xx
Nikol you did an absolutely fabulous job with this episode, your experience as a professional model, the attention to detail as you explain, and the cutaways were so good! Thank you for all of your hard work making it look seamless. ❤
Thank you Glad you enjoyed it!
So so beautiful ....wish you were dressing America. We would look much better. Thanks for this brilliant inspiration. So practical and elegant.
It is nice to see someone wearing blazers that actually fit.
Yes! Why do you see practically everyone with the jacket sleeves too long? Even celeb’s with stylists and Money! And men with suit pants too long and all bunched up at the ankle. Hey guys, take a hint from George Clooney and get your pant legs altered!
Ah! Those bathing suit pics are so gorgeous. Love how you inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, with respect. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Yesss! Positively! ( :
Nikol🧡
You just encouraged me to pull out a beautiful Navy Blue blazer I have.
You look just classic and Stunning.
After almost 4 years I WISH my hair was as white!!
Blessings Nikol and everyone 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa
Something my Dad instilled in me ... when you find a quality comfortable item at a good price buy 2 !
My favorite gift to my husband was a set of gold buttons for his expensive sport coat. They have his college emblem on them. I think I bought them from Brooks Brothers
A trench coat is a must too!! Mine is navy.
I wish I liked Levi’s as much as I used to. I wear skinny jeans and I’m not sorry. 😂😂. I’m in my 70’s and I just adore them
I just love how classy you are! ❤ My Mother was a very classy woman. She loved pearls! I always thought the pearls just made everything she had on looked so pulled together. Classic to me.
I’m a Pearl Girl….even at 65 yrs old. I’m still wearing my jeans and have many times worn mine with a crisp white shirt and my loafers. Pearls are never wrong.
I will have to say, you glam up anything you wear! I'm going to look for a black blazer to wear with jeans. Love your beauty advice. 🦋☕👍
I'm late to the show here, but thank goodness I've found your clothing videos. I so need this after losing 70lbs.
Blazers over swimsuits 🤯 GENUIS.. let me tell you, I GET IT! Lol And I cannot wait to rock it myself and confuse everyone around me who doesn’t 😂
Sure, sweats, leggings and tees. But then again, I live in So Cal and hiking and walking plus exercise is our daily go-to..
Please do a video about choosing bras!!
A classic black turtleneck. I’ll wear it again and again!
Hello. I love your channel! Thank you for all the videos & pointers.
You are so welcome!
NIKOL, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT I ALSO WEAR BLAZERS WITH EVERYTHING 😊
I love these wardrobe videos! I'm having some of my blazers I haven't worn for years altered as we speak. My staple is the pointed toe black pump. The older I get I just adjust the heel size! I watch your videos, purchase your products, and read your book! Thanks for everything!
Thank you for all your support! ❤
I completely agree with you on these staple items. I'm also a South Florida resident and would not be without my blazers- black and ivory in a variety of natural fibers and weights. My all time favorite prize possession is an ivory silk Chado Ralph Rucci dinner jacket, a work of art that I "exhibit " with silk trousers in black or a tropical color, strappy sandals, a small clutch purse, and fabulous costume earrings by KJL, Ciner, Dior. No other accessories. The purchase price of this jacket at a consignment shop was breathtaking 10 years ago but I will wear it forever. It's been a bargain!
Long live the blazer! ✊🏼
Navy blue! I love it! I once bought a pair of beige shoes that were perfect in every way and made a beige outfit around it! By beige I mean a light camel color! 😊
I’m a classics woman too. Classic pieces can be styled up or down. Depending on where you’re going and doing. I noticed in my freshman year that I felt good in classics with a twist to them🥰. I’m 71 now and I still reach for this style when I shop. Classics, basics with pop.
I love shirt dresses I can dress them up or down, and always look smart.
Another fab video from you and your closet..perfect!
Thanks so much! 😊😊
I so love your staple, classic style. I wore these when I was thinner. I am 68 and trying to lose weight.
The black blazer is timeless!!
Problem: I had surgery on my right foot. Before, I had flat feet. No way to wear any heels unless they’re stacked. I don’t think those are in style, because I can’t find any.
In my home city, there we’re Consignment stores, but not here. You and I have such similar taste in clothes-staples to wear with everything! Thank you so much for your videos. Two days a week I really look forward to watching‼️
My denim jacket is probably my most worn item. It can go over a dress, go with pants, shorts, anything.
I love blazers/jackets too! When I first retired I thought I would stop wearing them…but NO…it’s my look 👀…sooo, I’m reinventing my wardrobe to include jackets, cardigans and yes, blazers! 😂
I love your jeans! And that two toned trench. Fabulous!
“More issues than Vogue”, that’s hilarious! Excellent video. I am not a fan of black, but I am going to pull out my black blazers and give them another try. I like the idea of switching out the buttons to a gold tone. My staples are bootcut jeans, collared dress shirts, and cardigans (to the waist). I’m 71, cardigans are long time friends. Blaze on Nikol!
Doesn’t have to be black! Try navy or chocolate or deep green instead.
Your style and perspective are impeccable! You are a constant source of inspiration thank you for everything you do
Wow, thank you!
I agree. I love love blazers and live in South Florida too! I always wear a blazer or a cropped jacket it completely elevates your outfit ❤
Yes! I grab any of LL Bean's French Sailor shirts (actually a light sweater) in any of the second hand stores. I even found one with tags still on! Also I love a big white cotton shirt, sleeves turned up, to wear over any sleeveless in our hot humid Southern summers. Great for outside & a little touch in air conditioned spaces. Loved this vid and your style!
I have a pair of black satin trousers that l have for about 30years and they have with front pleats that I can wear everywhere and look brand new. They were quite expensive but it was worth it
I'm 66 I've never worn Trench, Belts, White Button Shirt, Tailor Pants, I had Blazers in the 90s when I lived in Florida for 4 years. Then back to NY NJ Down Jackets and Fleece from Landsend. I wear quality T Shirts of every color with Denim Leggings. Then Black soft cotton Baggy for Autumn. Upgraded Sweat Pants😂 4 distinct Seasons 😅❤
Loving that you featured the blazer & trench coat. I don’t have black, but I have navy, white & camel. I have a camel trench coat. I love white blouses, need to get another one. Just love these looks. I have black pumps that I love. I really don’t feel that comfortable in high heels but love the mid heels. Beautiful looks!
I'm sixty nine now, I live in Milan where we have markets, designer clothes in a heap to purchase for 3, or 6 euros a piece ... I can't stop buying white shirts, I've got a summer, winter collection of them. Some are long, fitted, or just collared, not collared, every type of white shirt imagined.
This was fantastic. I needed some ideas for a set of closet staples. My goal is to downsize to a minimalist”ish” 😅 wardrobe and your recommendations are a great place to start.
I hope you do one on accessories...this was great!
I would suggest a below the knee pencil skirt with a slit in the back. Thank you for your spot on tips. Some times in this busy life we can forget core items.
Like all your items but no to the slip dress and strappy sandals wore those years ago, now ill wear a knit dress and Nike white sneakers👍its fun to see others 9 essentials. Some of mine, as the coastal grandmother I am are: cream cashmere sweaters, blue and white striped shirt, white jeans, Levis blue jeans, white sneakers, navy Ralph Lauren blazer,Chanel bag
I took 2 silk drrsses one in navy and one in light pink on a two month vacation ...I took a navy blazer that does not wrinkle being a type of knit Ann Taylor and wore my camel blazer on the plane...it too.does not wrinkle. I have a beautiful knot bolero in navy with velvet ruched trim all around the edges...this I wore with bpth dresses for nice dinners. I took two chiffon tops that go over the pink one and a lomg sleeve silk pink shirt. Ihad a navy pullover sweater . These items mixed and matched beautifully.
My favorite is the navy blue trench coat!
love that blue, navy trench!
My most reached-for staple in the cooler months is a classic charcoal grey cashmere turtleneck, not too fitted, not too loose. It brings out the lighter silver shades in my hair, which I love. It looks great under a black or houndstooth wool blazer, with black jeans or dress slacks, any shade of blue denim, a black or lighter grey pencil skirt, almost anything in my closet, really…. It’s basically a winter version of a white button-down! Wish I had bought a back up when I found that perfect fit . . . 🤔
I love when you do fashion. I wish you would do much more ❤
Once again, another video where you Hit The Mark on every level! I absolutely love your style and the fact that you've found your own personal style that not only looks great on you, but you feel great in as well. The BEST part is you share amazingly affordable, doable and not overwhelming tips for us to come into our own as well. What can I say, I'm so thrilled I was led to you!
I'll be 50 in June and really am looking to get back to the basics because I've outgrown all of my basics from my 20's to early 40's.
I can say so much. Thank you to everyonewhotook the time to read my comment. One thing I want to reiterate is how thankful I am for the work you do and how much you share your authentic self. I have quite possibly every one of your videos on save because of all of the wonderful tips that I do not want to forget. Thank you and please keep sharing. You are so appreciated! 🙏
Love this! The only addition I would make is a pair of very well made black leather mid-heeled boots. They go with everything, I wear them all year.
I just can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos, positive energy and expert opinion! You are CHIC and beautiful! Thank you ❤
Absolutely gorgeous and classy 👩🏻🦳💖 when I retired as a manager 12 years ago I gave away lots of pant suits, matching jackets and pants to charity. During the summer I love wearing beautiful dresses, skirts etc. Have a great day 🤗🥰
I did the same thing donated all my corporate wear to Dress for Success!
@@NikolJohnson that’s awesome 😎
Thank you again Miss Nikol! I really enjoy your videos! I love your feminine style! I have all these staples in my wardrobe already! I just had to look for them!😂 I love blazers too! In addition l love moto jacket s and cowboy boots! For my off days! Lol l love fur coats too!
I am 72...My hair , which is mid back and white ...My son said , " Mom, stay out of the Beauty Parlor until, they find out about this Covid thing! " We are 3 years out and I still haven't been! Lol!
I friend gives me a trim, when needed!
I wear it up in a high loose ponytail ...keeping any tugging from the roots...or a high loose messy half bun.. no ballerina bun!
I wear a red/ maroon lipstick an all in one primer base corrector etc...a neutral eye shadow...mascara and blush!
I too, like the classic look ...get it according to what looks good no matter what store or lack of brand names!
I wear white pearl earrings...
Never go without them...2 pairs different size pearls!
I get lots of compliments!
Love watching you with all your amazing tips...Great looks! Thank you for sharing!
You have impeccable taste in my opinion. The links are so helpful, thank you!!
You are so welcome!
Youre in the ideal location to shop fabulous consigment shops. The Palm Beach shops...awesome.
Accidentally, your channel popped up on my RUclips. Perhaps not so accidentally, because I am 56 and watch French chic lady channel etc Wow your hair 😍 Just a dream! I have never had such thick and luscious hair, but 20 years ago it was still long and beautiful. After menopause my hair started thinning, and I have to pay more attention to it and also spend more money on haircare. I live in South Australia, originally from Northern Europe and but love American haircare brand Virtue Labs. 😀
Nikol l love love your style !! … l often change the style / colour of the buttons on my blazers 😊🇦🇺
I love blazers! Just keep doing you!
Really liking the new theme song and the shorter intro
I love blazers, I own many in different colors. And yes, my black one I wear with everything. Love your style ❤
Everything you mentioned is a must have in my wardrobe also. I worked for a large corporation most of my career, in the corporate office, so cost per wear, plays a huge role for all of these wardrobe investment pieces. Great quality will last forever and you'll always look fabulous! I just recently purchased a striped sweater and OMW, I'm obsessed now! I have to add another one to my wardrobe choices. Thanks so much for sharing these timeless pieces with us!
Totally agree with the pieces👍😎🐕🦺
Your work is inspiring and you're a gorgeous lady. I'm 47yo and have decided to start preparing my wardrobe for years to come, buying versatile, well made, quality pieces that I can wear over and over and can stand the test of time. Please keep up the great work, thank you! ❤
Love it. Jacket and swim suit. I plan to wear it that way
WONDERFUL video Nikol!!! I really loved your jeans with the blazer and white oxford shirt, I would love to be able to recreate this. Thank you so very much for posting information below on where to begin. I love your style and even though I am a good 10 years older I think I could still feel very comfortable and current in many of the styles you modeled for us. Thank you!!💄❤
Go for it!
Finding Nikol has inspired me to clean out my closets! I've lost weight recently so I want to rid myself of the (now) too big items, but "move-up" the items that will soon fit! I'm so excited! And I especially love dressing for Fall. Too bad I work a blue-collar job & have so few engagements to wear some of her ideas. Maybe a career change just to look fabulous?
I am very new to your channel and I love it. I’m your mother’s age and have just started growing my hair out. You both look beautiful and so natural. Looking forward to learning a lot and having a lot of fun!! Thanks!!
You have the m oh st beautiful hair! Thanks for all of your great information.
ALL these items I have..am I lucky!? 😊 YES 👍
You are like my lifestyle guru. Can you do a video how you keep your blow-dry in humid weather please?
I appreciate your confidence. Work it girl!!
Your suggestions and importantly your style is amazing. It is also a reminder how we can dress with sttyle and do not have to break the bank with classic pieces. I was a blazer wearer and started to wear them again. Especially the black, grey and hoping to find a navy blue and red! The jeans are so elevated styling with a shirt. As always so appreciate your video’s and how you present them as if we are bestie’s in the same space. Elegance you define.
It´s been said over and over again. Classic is timeless... It is class!!!
I love this change up to fashion. I love clothes and blazers! I looked a while ago. Was very difficult to find one that was a great fit for my petite frame. But I have an excellent seamstress here. Sleeves with buttons were the issue. Everything else I totally agree with. Great post.
At 4’11”, 92 lbs, I also have a hard time finding a good fit in most stores. I’ve had consistently good luck with J.Crew, which goes down to a 00 petite (0 petite usually works best for me there), and their blazers are always very well made for the price point. Sales are amazing, too! It is my go-to retailer for button down shirts, blazers, coats and jackets, dresses, slacks, and jeans. Be careful with the sweaters there, though…. They are not always the best quality.
I love the jackets. My type of style too. ❤
FABULOUS video Nikole!!
Thanks for the tip on the navy trench coat. I have, within the last yr let my natural grey hair grow out.(YOU WERE MY INSPIRATION!)
I just find that with a bit of olive in my skin, I just can’t do the tan trench coat that’s very popular…it washes me out too much. I know that navy is considered a “neutral “ but I hadn’t considered it for a trench coat!! I just absolutely love your videos…you always have fabulous tips and impeccable taste.
Thank you ❤
I agree - the navy is a bit more elevated IMHO and still goes with everything!
I’m also a navy fan . For the same reason as you.
This is one of your best videos and I appreciate the varied price points ❤thanks for all you do!
😍Nikol: You look absolutely stunning in every staple you selected〰️esp. the red hot ❤️🔥 bathing suit & blazer. (📸 Tickled by your delightful poolside pairings💥!) 💻 It's brilliant that you do the retail research & offer your viewers 3 pricepoint tiers to give them style at every level👏.
L❤️ve that you aren't afraid to mix metals✨️. Always preferred to wear my ⭐️gold rings & jewelry, but I do have several silver pieces⌚️ that remain in rotation 🔄. Plus, in clothing I gravitate toward the array of sparkling silvery gray tones over the gloomy gold/beige/camel range that do nothing for my complexion or spirit😳.
💯% mad respect for your faithful adherence to such classic pieces when your tropical paradise 🍊Florida kicks Southern 🐻California's dry desert 🏜 heat to the curb. I adore these styles, but keep shedding garments that feel too structured or weighty in my 😎LA climate. 🚫👖s for decades👍. 🤗Prefer skirts over trousers.

😉In the market for a glam white button up, but I'm extremely fastidious about fit & fabric🤫. Am a firm believer in buying multiples whenever I find anything affordable that suits my extreme
⏳️hourglass shape & fussy standards😊.
*At Coat Capacity (knits too). Amassed a massive corporate suit collection〰️& have been slowly turning these smart pieces into separates.☀️In high sun, I can only bear blazers outdoors up to 65° max, maybe to 75° @ night🌙. Otherwise, this staple remains strictly for indoor temp🌡controlled 🚘environments🏤.
☆Wear the heck out of two Cali lightweight elegant midi-wrap trenches year-round in black & navy. Keeping my
👁eye out for lighter duster length options. 🎁 Gifted two glorious pre-loved long trenches〰️a lux black Burberry of London that I can stand sans lining ➕️ a vintage Italian dark gray suede one. They get play in the SF Valley whenever our temps drop to 50° or below.

Nice advise, thanks a lot 👍👍
Always welcome
My long time staple is Mary Janes. Decades now. So spunky yet classic. Great with skirts, dresses and jeans. I have found several walking shoe options. Making them a must pack for travel 🧳
Amazing, amazing, amazing! I love your channel and what an empowering platform you have created! I LOVE your style and your videos featuring fashion! Your approach to aging and beauty is truly inspiring! 💖
A perfect list. I would make it 10 items. I would add mid-size pearl stud earrings. I wear them every day. Not too big. Maybe 4mm - 6mm in a slightly creamy white. I've worn them my entire life.
Oh my, i hear that aaaaalllll the time , too.
.
You are beautiful and gorgeous, love everything you do and present. THANX
Could you link the high waisted J.Crew jeans please? Great video!!👏
Yes! I love those jeans. The color is perfection. Please link them. Great video, Nikol!
I just loved this video Nikol! Great classic and elegant pieces that never go out of style. Thank you!!!!
Loved this thanks
Would love to see more, maybe summer looks with handbags sunglasses xxx
Nikol, I loved this video. You just prove you don’t need that many pieces to have a good wardrobe. Know your colors, buy the basics and accessorize with jewelry or scarves. There are always ways to put some style into your outfit, no matter what you are wearing.
Yes! Thank you!
Power of my people - a company out of Canada makes the best quality button down shirts. I bought 2 in white. They are the best quality button down shirt I’ve ever found and the price is reasonable for the quality.
These tips are classic and timeless. Thank you for going through this list. This next item may not be something a Floridian would think of but living in New England where the winters can be brutally cold, a classic black wool coat is a must have for casual and formal occasions.
I enjoy watching and listening to you. Your a class act!
Just bought a London Fog trench at a thrift store, $20!! I purchased a black slip dress from Macy's when I saw your video!! Loved this video!
