- Whats up guys! Another gig vlog for you today! Come along with me to Minnesota where we play Kickin up Country! Had a ton of fun on this gig and I got a bunch of great Soundcheck POV footage. Tell me what you guys think about it!!
Also shoutout to Tripp Howell, he's LANCO's drummer and and original founding member (I'm the only one that's not). He did his first gig Vlog this weekend as well. Got some cool shots of the show from a better angel. If you guys want the full experience check his out as well and throw him some love on the channel! Heres his links:
Tripp's Channel: / @trippxhowell
Here's his Vlog: • I almost fall off the ...
Until next time, Peace!
Hey Guys, I know the audio is really rough at some points, thanks for sticking with me! I had the auto wind audio filter on in the go pro and I think that was the main problem. We're learning so thank you if you made it through some of the terrible audio!! ❤
GoPros, as you now know, are not the best vlogging cameras. Phones are better- way better audio on phones. GoPros are cool for mounting as an action camera but not as a vlogging camera.
Hopefully can combine them both in the future!
Rules for my band..........No drinkin/smokin before /during the gig ....PERIOD ! What you do after...........go for it. Show up drunk, late .........YOU're OUT ! ! ! 🎸🎸🎸 It's a job. Folks come to see a nice show, not drunkin bums.
Holy cow this was so fun to watch. I learned something I never thought of, there is a flat side to a slide and it goes between the fingers. never even thought of that, always thought they were round. who knew. lol.
anyhow I really appreciate the videos, old enough to be your dad lol but sure feels cool to see what you do and hear about it, like your buddy at the grill telling a story over burgers and beers. You really make it look easy. Love the way you play too, even in the jam it has soul, and that is a gift.
Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you!!
I'm glad you're enjoying it, thank you!!
Audio keeps fading in and out Picture quality is good but audio needs work!! Nice video though
Yes sorry about that, were working on it you guys!
@@TimAvenMusic it's probably the wind noise reduction feature in your GoPro. If you turn it off, it will use stereo sound the whole time. Or you might just be covering the stereo mic holes with your hand haha!
The gopro is more shaky I think than your phone . And what gopro do you have?
Mark
I've got the hero 7 black. Going to just use it for the chest mounted content next time!
I’ll see no problem with you wearing the go pro for the whole show. I would tilt it up a little bit.
Ill keep this in mind! Might at least do a song or two next week!!
There are those bluetooth lapel mics with the wind furr. Try that! "Air space" consistency length between your mouth and the mic is key. :)
Hey Tim, Love the vids. Can you do a vid or at least a mention on what the outskirts of Nashville is like for the hard Rock Original music scene. And original venues, you know like State theaters, capital theaters, things like that. Large clubs that have original hard rock bands. Thanks in advance...
Video is good on the GoPro, but audio on your iPhone is honestly better. Maybe a learning curve?
I think you're right, going to see how I can better combine the two on the next one!
Get a Media Mod for your GoPro. I made sailing videos for a couple of years and the mic on it is perfect for what you want to do. Also turn on stabilization, makes your shots look a lot nicer :)
Loved the shots straped to your chest, especially sound check. Great perspective for newer guitar players to see. See if GoPro has any settings for jitter, some of the walking thru airport tough to view. Would love to see shots from stage as you play and/or in the crowd for the acoustic portion!! Maybe see if you can prop the camer up a little higher- would be cool to see more of the playing on the body & neck closer up.
Actually dude....the drummers perspective is the best perspective.
Get a nice couple of bottles of wine for after the show!, it's a nice drink to have with the right kind of girl after the show!, Lolz,✨
Hey Tim, any chance to see ya on Broadway this weekend? Fan from CT :)
Watching from Australia, really loving your videos. The image stabilisation on that GoPro sucks though.
Thank you! Had the stabilization setting turned off sadly, we've got it on for the next one!
The hops they use in IPA's might be strong and since that is a plant based ingredient, you might be alergic to it. Sort of like a hops hay fever. PS - Dig the go-pro behind the scenes on stage.
Wonder if thats it, it happens almost every time
Thank you!
lost tracks ? was there some backing tracks? cant say I heard any - guitar tone was great....
The iPhone is way better. GoPro has audio and stabilization issues.
Sorry dude but outside of the wind I like the phone clarity better
The Go-Pro is a good idea!, ahh, the wind can be blocked with an attachment ., Maybe you could wear it on a Headband or a country Hat, Lols,✨
I really enjoyed this video. I was amazed by the amount of alcohol provided by the festival promoters. I gig regularly with my band in the Uk (including the odd festival) but we are never provided with so much booze. I think it's really irresponsible for promoters to do that. No wonder that so many musicians become alcoholics!
We have a rider that is part of the contract, we put that stuff on it!
Have you tried the horizon leveling mode? It crops the image a bit, but does a fantastic job at stabilizing the footage and makes it smooooooth. The Go-Pro is a great little camera. For video, I also have a Sony A7Siii, but for the money, the footage from the Go Pro looks great straight out of camera or with very little editing...good choice. Too funny that your bandmates on getting on-board with vlogging. Has Chandler started a RUclips channel yet?
I've got the stabalization on now! I think its going to make it a lot better! I know this first one is just a little rough but I deff want to stick with it. This combined with my iPhone is not a bad little setup. Haha they saw I was having success and now they want to. I think Tripp will probably be the only one that actually does it. I dont see Chandler doing it as he doesnt like the camera Hahahah
Love the video! Give us a run down of the live Rig and how you are using the Stomp XL with the pedals, and how you are running your amp! What's going to FOH and what's going to your IEs? Thanks!
Hey Thanks Dave! I use the stomp at the very end of my chain. Its for all my time based and modulation effects, no drives and no simulators! I also use if for my tuner. Then its out to my amp. We mic the amp with a 57 and some type of ribbon mic and that is whats going to FOH and my ears. Thanks for the question!
That was a fun ride-a-long, Tim, thanks for giving us a view backstage, enjoyed seeing you set up and play.
New subscriber here so you may have addressed this before, but was noticing it looks like you use a wide pick or you hold the pick upside down using the “butt” end of the pick. I do that because I notice it gives it a different, unique sound (less treble) than using the “pointy” end. Just curious. You always sound great!
That is exactly what I do! I like the less harsh attack on it. Thanks for the new sub, excited to have you here!
Really
Thank you for saying it
What brand slide are you using?
Go pro playing footage is awesome. That Lacroix is rough work ,shows how dedicated you are.
Thank you! I enjoyed doing it. More of that to come!!
I have the Enki 2 guitar Vault for last 4 years and love it. Never an issue. Carry two PRS all over the country .
The absolute best choice. I do the exact same thing!
Each video seems to be getting better and better. Go pro footage was rad. I always love a good sound check impromptu jam too 🤘 🎸 almost at 10k already bro !
Thank you! Trying to make each one just a little bit better. A bunch more to come!
Fun, for sure, but needs editing.
It’d be awesome to have a video showing how you switch effect pedals during a set!
I could do something like that! Need to figure out how!
Thanks Tim, keep up the innovations for us everything goes. We enjoy tagging along and Dreaming or wishing we were in your shoes and wishing we could play guitar as professionally as you, hey let us meet your girl friend
Thank you so much for watching! Love bringing you guys along and there is a lot more to come!!
Loved the go pro. Enjoyed the sound check riff with the drummer.
Thank you! Going to try to keep incorporating that. I think that was a fun jam too!
Yep, learning experience on the GoPro mic. Otherwise pretty cool going to work with you. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you! Were learning as we go haha
The GoPro POV during sound check was cool. Maybe just use phone for talk/vlogging, GoPro on chest for soundcheck as it was cool to get a guitarist perspective, and then for the show, GoPro mounted from side or back of stage on tripod/mic stand/anything. Must have flown into Grand Forks as it didn't look like Fargo's airport!
I think you're right, thats what I'm going to try next weekend. Thanks for coming along! and yes we flew into grand forks!
@@TimAvenMusic you’re also right about overall quality of video versus good content. It’s much more about the content. Only need ok video with good audio and you’re set. People (well, me at least haha) are definitely tired of the hardcore curated videos that are scripted/storyboarded out (exception being Life of Riza, her stuff is amazing). For certain things it would be nice to have a setup, like when you do your guitar lessons, but it’s not necessary there either but it would be your opportunity to explore better lighting if you even wanted. Really enjoying the life on the road stuff. Reminds me of the early days of Rhett Shull’s or RJ Ronquillo’s channels.
I live in Minnesota
Microphone Check Nine, Microphone Check Ten, Chill to the sound of the Tim Aven!
Hahaha there ya go!
Hey man, really digging the real life musician content. I'm gonna be in Nashville Wednesday thru Saturday this week for work. It's my first time out there. Are you gonna be playing out anywhere we can come see you?
Thanks man! I'm glad you're digging the stuff. I'm sadly going to be out in Cali playing that entire time. I hope you enjoy it, there will be tons of good music!
@@TimAvenMusic ha we are switching states
The “Tim Aven Band” will be appearing in a city near you!
Sometime soon! Once we can work up those soundcheck tunes hahaha
Great guitar tone, what are you using for overdrive into the Vox?
I’m using mostly the Wampler Belle and the Tumnus!
Another great vid Tim! Such an interesting perspective! You have such awesome equipment, how about a “rig rundown” video sometime?
Hey Tim, switch to the DJI eco-system. You'll love the Pocket 3 with the Mic 2. But to solve a lot of GoPro mic issues, get their media case. It has a boom mic with wind shield. It's great.
GoPro was looking too far down, otherwise its good.
Noted!
I'm getting where I can identify Tim Aven without seeing or hearing him. I recognize his pedal board! Seen it to many times now not to know who it belongs to.😊
Good vid on the road. Dont sweat drinking before show. This is a job.
After show is when you enjoy.
BTW
Get a guitar mount for gopro but focus it up on you and crowd. To see interactions with the great fans.
the wind is tough NMW gear you have. Dude, the perspective looking down at your guitar using your gear with the stage sound is swweet. Also really cool to watch you work licks and chord compiing into the band dynamic. We get a lot of you playing alone, which is cool too, but these real world contexts playing in a band environment are really helpful for me to see.
I have an aweful time at making adjustments, plugins and switches on the fly. Anyone who does has my utmost respect

i just turned 31 years sober... 5/1/93 'MAYDAY"
Man it's great watching you do everything I should've done but didn't.
I was making everything harder than it needed to be and you're just doing what makes sense.
Keep going man!
The GoPro is slopro I'd throw that out I just use your phone like you were doing the pro is way too dark in the volume sucks to and the lighting sucks
Good vid on the road. Dont sweat drinking before show. This is a job.
After show is when you enjoy.
That view is perfect. I can see exactly what you're playing. People are going to want more of this. I certainly do.
Love watching the videos man. Your awesome!
Thanks again for another ride along! How does the drummer travel with drums on these gigs?
They definitely do not send notification for anything not far left !
Hey Tim, Just want to let you know that I’m enjoying your videos. It’s fun watching you experience what I’ve been doing for almost 5 decades! I’m so fortunate to still get to play 150 to 200 gigs a year (clubs, festivals, openers, etc.) in and around northern Colorado. None of it would be possible if I wasn’t 100% reliable, prepared and a good fit (as you say “a good hang”). You have to be completely dedicated to supporting your band and entertaining your audience. I see all of that in you. Keep making good choices and have fun. I look forward to more videos.
Love to hear it! Thanks for following along and the comment, there is a lot more to come!!
Tim, it's all about your easy, optimistic flow man. There is no doubt in my mind that is why you find yourself in LanCo. Once a cats chops are up to the task (which yours are) it's not about that anymore. BTW, my lil hack for drinking, loose the beer, have one shot of Gin. ONE shot only, and never on consecutive days. Leave a day in between, ideally even two... The sneeze is a mild allergic reaction. Beer is a dirty buzz at best.
Hey thanks for much for the kind comment, I appreciate you a lot! Also, noted!!
I think after you hit 10K subs your channel is going to blow up. Man I love your content Great Job!
I hope it continues to grow, really enjoying doing this. Thank you!!
Hello LANCO!!!! Very cool that Tripp is Joining in and all the others too. Great vid Aven !!!!!
Thank you! Should be a lot of fun, more to come!!
Solid video mate. Loving the content in these videos - chest cam was great vantage. I also love following along your journey as you figure out the video and audio side. This is what RUclips is all about! Keep experimenting you’ll get there 🎉
Hey Thank you! Love taking you guys along. Hopfully in the next few months were gonna get some upgrades for the audio! Going to continue to use that go pro for chest mounted footage!
Hey bro, I really liked the GoPro footage of how I could see your hand on the fretboard playing. I like seeing how you play certain things. Moreover, you’re doing a kick ass job with these videos. I really think you’re going to blow up. All the best!
Hey Thanks man, I think its a good vantage point too. I'm going to keep using that for soundcheck stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting, glad you're enjoying it!
Mike from Nevada, The GoPro view was amazing. That’s exactly how I see my guitar. I’d love to see more.
The GoPro aimed at the guitar is great. Smart man holding back on the drinking. After 50 years I gave it up. Enjoy the journey.
Your vlogs are the shitttt bro keep putting out fire content!
Also JBL has a little mini mic called a quantum that’s perfect for vlogging like this. Just saying 😂
Ayyyee thank you!! And yes I think I'm looking for something like that!!
Another great video; love these road trip vlogs!
You, sir, are a very tasteful player.
I am not feeling the GoPro but dang your guitar playing with the bass player and drummer I was really getting into. You just got yourself a fan.
Hey thank you so much! Love doing those sound check jams!
Hey, Tim!! The guitar playing is sounding really good, brotha!! Lovin it!
Thank you so much!!
hope you had a good time in Santa Rosa
Fun video. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Dig the pedalboard angle of the live set. Quite a bit of tap dancing there in parts! :-)
Yes there is! I noticed it more after i watched it back haha. Thanks for following along and the comment!
But having that Gopro on you while doing sound check and setting up gear for the show, that was pretty cool.
I agree! Thanks for your input
Great vid keep on living the dream !
Thank you!
Great stuff Tim , break a leg bro !
Thank you!!
This was fun Tim.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
