Saw this video weeks ago and was inspired! Didn't save to favorites then, so imagine my delight to find it tonight. All your recommendations are spot on. I'm making pendants with my grandmother's 1903 high school yearbook picture, and after some trial and error, they're coming out great. A million thanks!!!
I'[m so glad I found this tutorial. I'm just starting to work with glass cabochons and was looking for reviews on the best glues to adhere the image to the glass. Many posts recommended Lilly glaze. I'd never heard of using E6000 until I came across this tutorial. I've done about 50 or so cabochons now (using Kodak basic glossy paper and E6000) and have had no issues at all. I have been working with 12mm cabochons, so maybe the flaws won't show up until I start working with larger cabs. In any case - Thanks so much! Great Tutorial!
If you're using an inkjet printer, or having trouble with shiny spots or bubbles, then use Glamour Seal to glue the paper to the glass.
Yes I just ruined a lot of pictures because now they have shiny spots all over them I have to redo all the bezels
Thanks for showing me the correct way to do these! Back to the drawing board for me
I'm so glad I found this! I tried making my first pendant today before seeing this and I glued the image using E6000 to the pendant then glued the cab and it was so much it distorted the photo
Using card stock for your picture helps. Photo paper smears.
This is such a great video. I will be changing things on what glue I use and how to apply.
Thanks for uploading! I subscribed
not all glossy photo paper is created equal. I've had two types dissolve the coating from using e6000. I've had luck in the past. I'm going to try the new UV glass glue.
Same, e600 has totally eaten through my paper and left a grey patch.
Have you gotten any bubbles after setting the glass into the bezel? I made several of these with E6000 and let them cure overnight before gluing the cabochon into the bezel with more E6000, let that set overnight before wearing the necklace. After a few days of wear, I noticed tiny bubbles appearing that hadn't been there before. Should that be happening if the glue is completely cured? Or did I not wait long enough before setting the glass?
Thank you for the tutorial, it's much better than using Modgepodge.
I've heard that it's best to use light-weight CARD STOCK (such as 120 lb.) that is sealed with either Mod Podge or Diamond Glaze, and to make sure it's MATTE. Any time I've used photo paper (like to print off photos), the colors never look as good, and sometimes can smear, but it won't on card stock. But this gentleman is using GLOSSY photo paper. Which one would really be the best to use? (I also found that E6000 has an ingredient in it that California has declared to cause cancer, so I use Crafter's Pick, The Ultimate; it's not toxic like E6000.)
Very helpful. Ive used plain paper and the colors bleed and turned green.
i use waterproof photo paper and it becomes blur after several months 😢😢
Thank you for this clear tutorial! But I have a question, did you make those papers/images yourself or did you buy them somewhere? Thx!
if you were not going to put it in a metal tray, what would you use to seal the backing?
Are your photos printed with an Inkjet printer? I find mine smear and distort as soon as any liquid goes near them!! Great tutorial! Thanks!
Mine did this too. I printed mine on a color laser.
So very helpful!! Best tutorial I've come across! My only question is can you use the E6000 glue to adhere the cabochon to the base? 2 part epoxy seems pretty messy from what I understand.
You can, I just prefer 2 part epoxy adhesive.
sublimationman Ok, that's good. Thanks. I just wanna make sure it'll hold good. I don't have that much money to buy anymore supplies.
never mind, the video just answered that for me :)
I have been using your method with a 50% success rate and my problem is this. I have been getting bubbles in my epoxy after i mate the glass to the picture. Does humidity affect the way E6000 works? I find i've had better luck working on cool nights. I also seal the back of the photo paper with paper glaze, is that advisable? I do use the E6000 to glue the glass to the photo paper AND into the bezel. I've gotten bubbles after its in the bezel and before I put the glue on the back of the paper so there seems to be no rhyme or reason. I've even bought a new tube of epoxy just in case. I'm desperate for a solution. I have a product people are really looking for and I want to get it to them.
This was a very good video but I am not sure if I need to buy my glass cabochon smaller than the base? What should I do?
If you have a 20mm setting, you use 20mm glass.
Those images are from CobraGraphics (SquareCobra) on Etsy.
VERY NICE
Easy to use, but air bubbles start to appear a couple days. My lenses are not completely flat on the back and I have had to re-do these several times. Not the best for a lens with a lip I guess.
Where did the prints come from, especially the small circle ones that was used in this video? I looked on the site but couldn't see this one. I really love some of the designs on it, especially the green swirly one! Would love a necklace like that :3

sublimationman
Thanks for the info. Now the only thing left to do is save some money and throw it at you! :D
+CassieNewton Loads of fab images here stores.ebay.co.uk/Geminara
the link is not good :-(
mine become blur after several months 😢.
I printed them from a file I purchased on Etsy.com
I have an inkjet printer. Will this work with the E6000? Also can I use any other jewelry glue to affix the cabachons to the bezels. Excellent tutorial. Solved a couple big issues for me.
It should work as long as you use a glossy photo paper (they won't absorb the glue and darken). I only tested E6000 and the UV acrylic that we sell, both of these worked but I can't speak of other glues. Thank you.
That helped. Thanks so much!
I forgot to mention a few minutes ago, that I use HP photo paper when working on this photo to lens project.
I really need to know how to seal the pictures since I'm not using a laser printer I'm using an inkjet what do you suggest thank you awesome video
I know it's been a while since you posted this question, but I use regular cardstock and use Distress Micro glaze. It's kind of like wax. You put some on your finger and rub it on. You then take a paper towel and buff it out.
I use e6000 to glue my cabochon onto the image, and I'm also getting these dark spots that look like air bubbles. I use a generous amount of glue. Is it possible that I'm pressing too hard?
It's possible, Also be sure you are working on a hard flat surface.
After using e6000 on my images and glass and letting it sit for more than 24 hours it started to get round shiny spots
Hi, what UV heater did you use & where did you purchase it.
I am so pleased to see that you are using our CobraGraphics images in your tutorial! Just wanted to let you know that we are currently celebrating Grand Opening of our brand new store cobragraphics.myshopify.com/ Take advantage of the discounted introductory prices. Looking forward to seen you and your followers!
Yes I know, I've seen the announcements on Facebook. Thanks.
What brand of printer do you use for your graphics?
I used E6000 and followed your tutorial, but my cabochon images showed signs of cracking (fine capillary-like lines). Any idea why or what could solve this problem? I used inkjet printer on glossy photo paper so the images don't bleed, but they still show this 'cracking'. Will you recommend using Mod podge?? I enjoyed your tutorial videos still; they are really really helpful :)
Either the ink or paper is to blame. Cracking means it's coming loose and moving so this would most likely be the coating on the paper is spreading on the paper and cracking. Try a different paper.
You could try to seal it with ModPodge or Weldbond. I just don't know for sure.
Hi.When I put a 30mm glass cabochon round or square into the appropriate bezel there is always a slight gap between the glass edge and the bezel. What do you suggest using to fill that gap as I think it looks untidy and unprofessional.I've tried plastic, paper and tin strips but it never looks right and it is a very laborious process.
With our bezel and glass the gap is paper thin and does not matter. If you can't get a good fit maybe fill the gap with a little 2 part epoxy, you can either use clear or use color to make it like a frame. Use a small dropper to add the epoxy with precision.
You could also fill it with any glue that dries clear like our inkseal or Weldbond or even use regular clear silicone from a home improvement store.
Can we also use F6000 instead of E6000 as I couldn't find any other, thank for all
+evren basar I am pretty sure that F-6000 is a cheap knock of of the original E6000 and from what I hear it's junk. I have not tried it myself so I am just going by what I have heard. There are also E6000 knock offs that are also junk so it's important to buy from a reputable source.
So for glossy photo paper a mod podge sealing isn't needed, but regular printer paper it's a must do?
Yes. But I highly recommend the glossy paper. It's just a lot easier and probably will last a lot longer.
Thanks!
Im having the hardest time finding an adhesive that will work well with my photo inkjet glossy paper without leaving bubbles or silver spots. Is your paper inkjet or laser?
inkjet. It's tricky and even I can't get it to work every time without bubbles but I found using more adhesive and pressing less seems to help.
Where do l get the pictures to print
I got the file on Etsy, unfortunately the maker of these seems to have disappeared since it's been 11 years ago now.
What kind of paper is it on though?
WHAT KIND OF PAPER DO YOU USE FOR THE CABOCHON? LIKE WHAT BRAND? I keep screwing mine up, wasting money. I need to know a specific brand that will work. I'm having an issue with the picture being distorted and air bubbles and blah. Trying to make these rings is difficult I need help. PLEASE RESPOND! :(
I use the cheapest Kodak basic glossy photo paper and E6000 seems to be working well for me.
Does anybody know how to get rid of the silver shimmer on clear cabochons/glass gemstones/glasspebbles?? As you can see through them very clearly
The silver shimmer is air trapped between the glass and the image. Most of the time it means that not enough glue was used. You need to be generous and let it squeeze out the sides.
Thank you for the reply. The shimmer is there on the stones before i do anything with them, although its not on all of the stones. What is it? a coating?
Would you recommend using mod podge on glossy photo paper anyway to be safe or will it just damage it?
I am not a big fan of Mod Podge so I would say no.
What type printer do you use? I use photo paper with all of my pieces but I find that my colors bleed.
I use a Canon Pixma MG5220 it's a great printer (photo quality with 100 year archival inks) but it's more money than the average inkjet printer.
I've tried the E6000 method on photo paper but I keep getting silvery spots?! What paper did you use in this video?
Kodak glossy photo paper but you can still get air (silver spots) it's tricky to do it right.
How would you g about printing the picture to the right size, is there a specific software to resize the image or is it just a case of doing it yourself?
Try canva
If you have an iPad you can download pages. You can resize and print from that app.
Excuse me, where did you get images like those in the paper?
Those images are from CobraGraphics (SquareCobra) on Etsy.
how did you make those domes? can i create cabochons using the e6000 glue?
Those are glass and you can buy them on our website.
will the Canon glossy photo paper work?
Yes. That is one I have been using along with Kodak.
Thankyou so much! :)
could you use PVA glue?
+Fitzroy Rowe Hello, I don't think PVA glue will stick to the glass very well but you can try. Glass is a bit hard to get anything to stick to it.
Oh...thanx
what type of paper do u print on?
Shola Hanson never mind
do you have the UV glue?
+Jennifer Reimel Hello, We did but our supplier disappeared. Our UV epoxy works but it can't be just an inkjet or laser print without first sealing them. It will work on real photos or solvent based prints (like sign shops use).
What is a good sealer? So steps that I read online is modgepodge to put the paper to the metal, but before that use your F6000? And before that seal the paper? I'm getting a bit confused because different walkthroughs combine different stuff.
A laminated normal piece of paper should work, shouldn't it?
This WAS a good video until you said that the UV glue around the edges won't cure ... really!? The 'exposed' glossy photo paper should have enabled the curing process easier than travelling through a 'light enfracted' cabochon!?
I don't profess to know why but the glue will not cure unless it's very thin layer and sandwiched between 2 surfaces. It would be much more useful if it would but it does not.
@@sublimationman Fair enough! I actually think it has something to do with the molecular makeup. I did notice, if you put a dab of instant glue (obviously different molecular makeup) on a surface it takes forever to dry. If you take that dab and thin it out with parchment paper (no adhesion obviously but proves my point) it dries extremely quickly. I do believe cyanoacrylate as well as the uv curing glue you use are not 'activated' until 'set in motion', whether by mechanical or chemical means. But yeah, good vid.
Will loctite superglue work for glueing the cabochon into the tray after you have the image on the cabochon?
It may but I have never been a big fan of super glues for long term application. They seem to always lose adhesion after some time and the glue seems to turn powdery and crumble.
