Hello Ward, I am so happy that you made this video. I am a disabled Air Force Vet (enlisted - ELINT), I can't fly anymore (penguin) and your video was the first time I had seen the Next Level Racing Flight Simulator Cockpit and the Thrustmaster TPR Pedals. I bought both and I have to say I am very pleased that I did. I am very active in Flight Sims again and this has had a huge positive impact on my life. Thanks so much. Take care.
DCS is pure fantasy for most of us. Sim-pits and all the add-ons really let you get your geek on. It is refreshing to see someone that has truly "been there, done that" enjoy getting just as nerdy as we mere mortals. LOL! Thanks for sharing!
I was building my own sim pit, but it was taking forever. Then I saw this rig and immediately decided I need it to simplify my process. Watching this video only solidified my decision. Thank you.
Ward, even at 72 years I can see myself having great fun with this sim pit. I am not a gamer, but this would be one way to bet my 36 year old gamer son to visit! Thanks my friend for the view.
I remember playing Afterburner on Sega Genesis circa 1989. I was in the 4th grade, and did so from the couch. Looks like we’ve come a ways since then. Setup looks pretty awesome, bro.
Very cool. It is insane to me how quickly (relatively speaking) we have advanced to this point in technology. I remember playing Jane's USNF in the mid 90s and seeing the Tomcat created out of like 12 triangles, using just a mouse and keyboard to fly it. Now we have full on, consumer ready sim-pits and graphics that basically match real life. Just insane.
F-15 Strike Eagle on the Commodore 64. Ground targets were triangles. Aircraft were slightly different triangles, in the sky. But a 1mhz 8bit CPU with 64k of RAM doesn't have much headroom for stunning visuals. ;-)
Yup. Falcon 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 as well as MS Flight Simulator 1 and 2 in the 1980s. I always had a vision for a near video image quality F-111 strike mission up into North Vietnam at night. I haven’t played with any civilian sims since the mid 1980s.
Awesome. I have the very same one, just bought it two weeks ago and put it together last weekend. Paired it with a 48" Aorus 4K monitor and using the Thrustmaster rudders, A 10 stick & throttle. I absolutely love it - super experience. Next up will be a Winwing Top Gun MIP to create a more effective work environment where I have to rely less on mouse for data entry and manipulating the DDIs/AMPCD functionality. I think Next Level Racing has an absolute winner on their hands with this sim pit. Thanks for sharing your experience...
Hope you got one the other day when they restocked bud, sold out pretty quick and I managed to get one myself. Just waiting on that TG MIP & this chair/pit in the video to get delivered then I'll have everything to setup my first sim pit. Been just playing with them desk mounted for a little around a year now and ready to finally geek out in my own little pit. : )
I’m retired Army(11B), I’ve always been fascinated with filter jets. Watching your videos inspired me to get into DCS, I’ve invested in all the F16 components from Thrustmaster and Winwing and I’m having a great time learning. Thank you sir👍
For mounting things on plates: No need for screws if you got 2 flat surfaces and a bunch of velcro I can grab my 1st gen VPC Mongoost at the throttles and lift it with the old speaker cab (Which weighs a few kgs) I attached it to and that's with only 6 1x1" contactpoints
I have the same seat, I absolutely love it. You can mount the center mount lower and more forward at the bottom of the seat bracket so you can use a 100mm extension on your stick. I have my warthog stick side mounted by the mouse pad for my F-16 flights, and a VKB stick center mounted.
Just a quick question as someone with all the peripherals and the same monitor as in the video. I want to do a sim pit like this but I also use my computer for work, can this be used ergonomically to do a 9 hour shift office style too.
I would love to see more content related to your DCS experiences Ward. Doesn't have to be live stream game play or anything like that but just videos related to your thoughts on gear such as this and also various aircraft and maps within DCS. I'm really curious what all you have tried out and how you ended up choosing the things you use and what you liked or didn't like about other things out there, for example VR vs head tracking, etc.. Also really looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on this system vs others after you've logged more hours in that seat. Love your channel, BTW.
I literally saw this on my Amazon suggestion feed yesterday. Now your release a review today. Thanks for the review, I was already thinking about this pit and now I got some insight. I appreciate your work on this and look forward to future videos. Thanks again Mooch
WOW! This is really impressive, Mooch. This really brings me back to memories when I used to rig a desktop back in ‘98 with ‘DID’s EF 2000’ combat flight sim. My dad custom made an acrylic mount to screw together to the desktop to place an F-18 stick on center. This (and the price…) is making me reconsider coming back to $plurging. Because of reasons, you know…. Cheers!
EF2000 was responsible for my first ever LAN party and many more afterwards. Teamspeak didn't exist, so some clever guys figured you could use (UK) FM-band CB radios with a very sawn-off antenna for our comms. Happy days :D
YOU sir are a bad, BAD influence. I think I'm getting a 34 inch curved monitor for Christmas, since you passed word how much you liked yours. It isn't even Christmas yet and you got NEXT Christmas spoken for 🤣
Probably the first commercial I have ever enjoyed watching. Edit: The harness is there if you decide to strap the whole assembly to some actuators to get the movement going for a full-sim experience.
Been eyeing the Next Level Military Edition setup myself for awhile now and this pretty much seals the deal. Thanks for the review Ward. And thanks for serving. 🙏 But put your harness on brother! 🤣
I just ordered the Boeing Commercial Edition after watching your video!. Unfortunately the version you have is on back order, their is only little differences in between them which isn't going to be a problem at all. I don't comment very often but thanks again for another great video Ward Carroll, I've been watching and followiing for sometime, much appreciation and love from Australia 🇦🇺 Hopefully see you in DCS one day, take care.
Hi Ward! Just wanted to tell you that I sent a link of this video to a friend of mine yesterday as we are both building out our Sim pits- I have the same one you have (or had) the Volairsim one, and I was showing him this video you made and anyhow, he bought the Boeing one on the spot! Its arriving next Tuesday and he's very excited to get it put together! Thanks for the video!
It's cool that they realized that you are the real deal and sent you that so that others interested in that would get a report from someone who knows what he is talking about on this feel!
I like the minimalistic military aviation look. Surprised nobody else has offered a similar setup at that price point. Monstertech has something similar for $2200, a lot more expensive. If I had a static sim pit this would’ve been a no brainer. Mine moves so the seat wouldn’t work. Not going to screw around with seatbelts.
Brother I have been searching for a decent "pit" for so long couldn't find anything, (during search was using the wrong key words). Thank you for this review.
Love seeing the Truman cap, My Daughter is currently assigned to AIMD. I was in in the 80-90s and of course the F-14 is my favorite bird, I never got to work on them P-3's and EA-6Bs was my thing. A P-3 sim would be fun, if you like lots of switches to mess with :)
Hey Mooch, that rig is the dogs bollocks. (British military term) I used to play a game called Elite Dangerous (space combat) and would have killed it with one of those.
Thank you for this video. I have to get this setup for Elite Dangerous. I'll have to look into if the Virpl HOTAS I have fit's the mounting holes, but it looks like this is very adaptive.
I am a jealous man - that's a slick setup! One day. after I upgrade out of my meh-ish X52, I'm going to have to consider something like this. Looks incredibly immersive
Great review, Mr. Carroll. I bought this exact Sim Pit back in October. It's fantastic, although the seat could stand to be a little more comfortable (it's probably more comfortable than a real jet seat, though!). I have the WinWing F-18 stick, throttle, PTO Panel and PCR panels. I had to weld a custom adapter for the panels, but I expected that. Still figuring out DCS...
Winwing is producing a panelfor the F-18. I wish companies would produce a kit cockpit that you can buy and use that doesnt cost $40,000 or that it would take years to build or source items.
Whenever you have to secure stuff with zip ties, consider glueing strong magnet underneath. For instance, magnet underneath the aluminum support which your throttle quadrant goes onto, would attract the steel frame of your throttle. I had the Thrustmaster Cougar in the past, and it was made out of steel so I assume the same on your model meaning magnet sticks on this. It s an elegant method to secure stuff in place. No more an isusue though with your new rig. Enjoy!
Potential gotcha with that is that most modern HOTAS setups, including the TM Warthog, use Hall-effect sensors, so placing powerful magnets anywhere near would likely be a major problem.
For the TPR, I originally used the slim bars to attach as the manual said, after using i found flexure of the rudder pedals. those thin metal adapters are not rigid enough. i decided to just drill 2 new holes on the rudder base so they could match up with the sim pit base.
I enjoy learning about aviation and its associated military-civil contexts from your videos, Mooch! An added bonus is to see that Dodger blue hoodie. Go Dodgers!
What a sweet rig ya got there. The (ejection) seat is a nice touch. Also, that sweatshirt your wearing is somethin else-I've not seen one like that before.
Aw Ward, You NEED to wear that harness so you get the feel when you try to turn around to check six. Looks great. I'm so far away from sim flight now. Last time I flew sim it was Falcon 3.0 with the Thrustmaster stick and the throttle came out after wards. Have falcon 4.0 somewhere but it won't run on PC I have now. BUT i do now fly RC planes so i do have a flight sim for that when I can't get to the field. Good luck in your DCS flying! Great to watch your videos about Flight in general and especially my favorite Navy jet the Tomcat, best long range jet we've ever built and sadly retired too soon.
Oh that's cool, I bought that TV stand, I've got two TVs stacked as my main screens, solid stuff, built like a weight set. I don't even do any sim racing or flying, unless you count KSP. Eventually I want to get the side extensions, but I don't have the room.
Glad you mentioned the bracket for a side stick for the F-16. I haven't tried the DCS thing yet but both you and Nasty seem happy with it. If I get this I'll never get "Lurch" to go home. Tired of him moving the rudder peddles all the way forward as it is.
When it can move you around through your flight input, let me know. The one I built had 5' vertical, 4' longitudinal, +50/-40 pitch, and 360 deg rotation, all in 1 second. (Seabird submarine simulator)
Awesome video!!! I got mine about a week ago and I totally love it!!! I too have the Warthog setup w/TPR rudder pedals the only difference is I'm using Quest 2 but that's going to be my next upgrade. Oh by the way I did set up the harness. At first I wasn't going to but I decided that a 5 hour build time just wasn't long enough{lol}. But seriously, even though I've never actually really flown anything {except a Cessna a when I was a kid. When I was 10 my dad taught me how to take off, fly, and land one in case of an emergency) I think the harness really adds to the realism while in VR.
Im an f16 guy. The side stick platform doesn’t seem to be stiff enough. Wanna go realsimulator fssb. Probably need to design a custom solution to mount that.
For anyone that's wants a simpit, on the cheap, do a search for the Akers-Barnes Cockpit. (called the ABC pit) loosely designed after the F-16. Been around, easily the past 20 years, and they still have the plans available for download (free btw) I made one, and it was perfect for my simpit needs.
What would be a cool sim rig is a replica of a Tomcat cockpit complete with the RIO and dials w/ switches then get a former F-14 Pilot to two player with you. You retaking your role as a RIO and then “X” pilot.
Thank you sir, for a great review, I would really like to pick this one up maybe in the future, In the South Pacific shipping it a little tough lol.. but I did pick up the next level Flight lite cockpit, due to weight and the room I have, which is extremely limited. I like watching video like yours to give me ideas for my upcoming build. I am now a subscriber.

Pro-Tip for fixing the throttle quaddrant to a rig:
Velcro!
I have my Throttle and an extra panel fixed with velco.
Holds as hell 🙂

For anyone that's wants a simpit, on the cheap, do a search for the Akers-Barnes Cockpit. (called the ABC pit) loosely designed after the F-16. Been around, easily the past 20 years, and they still have the plans available for download (free btw) I made one, and it was perfect for my simpit needs.
Consider padding the seat to the wall, so, if somebody falls, or trips, on the seat, you don't break the screen. Have fun
Now that you've had it for a couple weeks or so, how comfortable do you find the chair to be? And how long have you been in it, now that I'm asking?
8:50 1 G environment LOL! Ward I bet you would pull that chair up to 9! ; - )
Super cool piece of kit and awesome review!! I hope you enjoy the set up 👍
Looks good but I'm looking to connect winwing panels and the top gun MIP. Doesn't seem like a lot of mounting options available
Very nice. have you looked into adding a bass shaker? It's a cheap way to feel engines and crashes.
