I have this same carp carrier. I'm 57 and disabled and love that I can handle it being it's light weight. I like the 6" sides, makes it easier to secure items and the reflectors help for safety.
I carry a 200 lb Honda pressure washer daily on the same cargo carrier for the past 3 1/2 years without any issues. Plus, I use it as a step to get me (200 lbs) into the back of my pickup when I need something out of the bed. So we're talking over 400 lbs and this carrier has worked out just fine for my commercial business. The best thing about this carrier is that it still looks like shiny aluminum after years of service. It's got a little wear to it, but it still works just fine.
Thinking of doing my own tinkering and attaching this directly to the tongue of our single tongue, tow behind, 5x9 trailer. This video has me sold that it's a doable idea! Thank you for the inspiration.
I got the same model from Harbor Freight a while back. Only used a couple of times, but it worked fine when I did. One low-cost upgrade for those who get one (or even any of these) is to buy some additional stick-on reflectors for the sides and maybe even additional back ones. I did this because I was worried about tailgaters hitting it when they are empty (ie the trip to the store before it is loaded-up.) I've also been thinking about adding some waterproof trailer lights with a 4 pin connector (like one of the commenters below did), but am not sure if that would be overkill for something I only use occasionally.
That cargo carrier might work well behind a golf cart for carrying coolers, tools, or life jackets to my boat dock. Thank you for the review. I would need to make an adapter for the cart hitch, which is different than car hitches.
Thank you for commenting, I agree, perfect for a golf cart because it’s all aluminum, very light. The trailer hitch on mine is the same as a receiver on a car. Thanks for watching
Hey... thank you for this review! Are you still happy with the carrier? Question for you please... I want to install one on my minivan, but wonder 1) would I still be able to open the rear hatch door? and 2) is it possible to stand between the carrier and the bumper or is the space to small? It looks like there's about 5 inches between the carrier and the bumper? and 3) did you ever put something over the top to be able to lock your items on the carrier? I will be using it for a popup canopy, a camp cot and small tent, camping chair etc, so I'm worried about those things being stolen. Thank you for your thoughts on these 3 issues!! :)
💭 it'd be nice if it had a bent receiver shank instead of that straight one; average to low vehicles going over uneven ground are going to scrape the bottom of it.
I just came across this on Harbor freight very cool, I have a 2020 Fiat 500X I want to get one of these so I could put my camping tote in the back trying to make more room in the car I was going to buy a rooftop carrier but they are very very expensive and I don’t like the look
Very useful review. Would it be possible to provide the internal length and width? I am planning to add a cargo carrier and cargo box to my class B RV for an Alaska trip this summer and want to know the largest cargo box that will fit within the rails. UPDATE: I downloaded the manual from the harbor freight website and it does give the interior dimensions which are 47 5/16” long by 20” wide and 6” high.
These are great carriers and very light weight. I have passed mine on to my father in law. He keeps it attached to his motorhome and hauls firewood on it.
There's a YT video of a guy standing on his, mounted to an ATV. He claims to weigh 240. ruclips.net/video/GQ82XtdHA_U/видео.html&ab_channel=scannerguy1968
Praise God . I found your channel, wished you lived near by I`d really enjoy a Christian Brother that like to tinker as much as me , I like Harbor Fright also .newly Subscribed, Blessing beyound what you could ever imagine. In Him as One
Scott thank you so much, I appreciate that a lot. I do love to tinker with new projects and I will have more videos coming soon. Thank you for watching and subscribing
I'm an Athiest....my Indonesian wife is Muslim. We LOVE this rack--and really appreciated your video--which we watched before buying. (BTW--the link is on the Harbor Freight website when you click on this rack!)
I wonder if exhaust heat is ever an issue for these. I have a Subaru WRX with Quad tip exhaust and it would be pointing outwards 6 inches back and 3 inches up from the tips.
Good question, it doesn’t take much cargo to block the license plate. I try to the license plate clear and visible but if I were to use the carrier a lot or keep it attached permanently, I would attach the license plate to the cargo carrier. I would check your local laws first to be safe.
Do you have the actual weight of this carrier? I am shocked to see their steel cargo carrier is rated to be 1lb lighter than this aluminum version. That doesn't seem right.
I let my father in law use it so I don’t have it at home to look at but if I recall correctly, you could leave the side rails off when you assemble it.
Still holding up fine. I recently gave the carrier to my father in law because he needed one on his motor home to haul firewood, he uses it frequently. I’m probably going to be purchasing another one for myself.
I have passed this carrier to my father in law who needed it more than me at the time. He has it attached to his RV and he hauls fire wood on it on every camping trip. It is holding up great and still in great condition
Check my channel I did a review of the maxhaul cargo carrier with ramp. It legit looks exactly like this $100 one at northern freight. Nice you got it for 79. But they cut the last rail and added the ramp! Crazy

Hey, thanks for the HF review. Nice XJ. Hope it is still working well for you 3 years later.

I added LED tail lights on a 4 pin when I have too much stuff blocking lights.
Awesome video, I admire the concise style, a rare thing today.
Rare indeed! Got to the point. No 10 minutes of Intro music and graphics. No dogs! Working with BOTH hands!!! Good lighting! Good job on the video!

Great video simple and to the point.
Very light weight at 31 lbs and most of it is from the steel bar hitch attachment part

Just ordered one for my 99 XJ !

What tools do I need to assemble it? I don’t have any so I need to know what to buy.
Thank you
May 2023 ,it's now $109, BUT still seems to be a good deal compared.
Yes, inflation has pushed the prices up but I agree, A good product for the money.
Do you think this would work on a Wrangler that has a spare tire on the back? I can’t tell if the tire would interfere or not.
Jen Montou it does , You can’t open the trunk
Good video would like to see with some weight in it. Even u standing in it on the outer edges to see how it handled it.
There's a YT video of a guy standing on his, mounted to an ATV. He claims to weigh 240. ruclips.net/video/GQ82XtdHA_U/видео.html&ab_channel=scannerguy1968
Is it still working good ? What's the good and the bad.
Thinking of getting this for my mountain bike instead of a regular bike carrier.
did you end up getting that for you mountain bike? how did it work out?
I wouldn't recommend it for bikes.

Lost the manual do they have one online in pdf format?
I wonder if exhaust heat is ever an issue for these. I have a Subaru WRX with Quad tip exhaust and it would be pointing outwards 6 inches back and 3 inches up from the tips.
Is it possible to leave the sides off and just use it as a flat bed?
Russ Loetscher yes I just purchased one and you can. JG
How do you work around cargo blocking the license plate?
Good question, it doesn’t take much cargo to block the license plate. I try to the license plate clear and visible but if I were to use the carrier a lot or keep it attached permanently, I would attach the license plate to the cargo carrier. I would check your local laws first to be safe.
How do you suggest remounting the license plate on the carrier to be visible, if my load is blocking the license plate?
joapps you don't have to but other than that it's a good luggage carrier
Great review...thank you.
What are the dimensions thx for video.
Do you have the actual weight of this carrier? I am shocked to see their steel cargo carrier is rated to be 1lb lighter than this aluminum version. That doesn't seem right.
HF says 31 lb on its website.
How did you get the pin on fast & easy?
It's price increased from 68 to 100 in 5 years. That is the inflation.
Yea, that’s crazy, I didn’t realize the increase
Can you this without the rails?
I let my father in law use it so I don’t have it at home to look at but if I recall correctly, you could leave the side rails off when you assemble it.
Hola, en Colombia a través de que medio podría conseguirlo, tengo un sobrino con silla de ruedas eléctrica y estoy interesada.gracias.
En Amazon, incluso allí ví uno que tiene una rampa especial para silla de ruedas
Exactly the same as the one sold by northern tool.
Gracias por tu vídeo
Lite because very little aluminum is used to make it.. Plastic joints will be the first go.
Hey so after the time how has this held up?
Still holding up fine. I recently gave the carrier to my father in law because he needed one on his motor home to haul firewood, he uses it frequently. I’m probably going to be purchasing another one for myself.
Any update ?

Very nice review. I sure would love to see a 🇺🇸 video soon
brandonhd thank you, I have another one planned, it's just finding he time. The next one will probably be the 4' x 8' flag
1:30 definitely who ever thought of this was a good idea
How's it holding up
One Well Armed Gladiator so far so good, no issues that I’ve seen
Can that steel piece be removed
I think you’re talking about the 2” square tubing, that can be removed from the carrier.
then you wouldnt have anything to mount to the vehicle........dumb question
Are you making this type of car carrier? How much do you sell one? I will like to have one.
Kia Yang I don't make these, you can get these at Harbor Freight.
are you on a boat?
are you on another planet?
