This is such an early cover in her career too guys. Before lungs was even on the shelves it's like those early demos of all your favorite bands. This is the song that also introduced me to Beirut 9 years ago. It meant something to Florence and you can hear her heart and raw power of emotion put into the cover.
i like this because i can listen to this version during winter and fall and it fits the mood and i can listen to the original one during summer and spring and it brings a different aspect
I’ve been a Beirut fan for a decade and I always occasionally come back to this cover because I like her version every now and then. She does it a loving tribute.
When someone covers a song, they aren't attempting to replicate the original. That'd be stupid. They create something new. This is a great cover, and the original is great.
From my experience listening to Florence, and this song specifically, the magic of her as an artist comes out as her voice in a sense becomes the music. Her voice dances between the foreground and the background... It's this ephemeral quality of hers that makes what she does work.
I must admit, when the song started, I went "Oh great, another straight karaoke cover." BUT! What a vocal! Absolutely breathtaking, and opens up an entirely new dimension to the song.
Really... I have no idea why people dont like this cover, I liked it so much! Its not a fan thing to like every single song your artist performs. I mean, I really like florence but... Its just that... THIS COVER IS GREAT!!!
this is absolutely beautiful no? butttt, it doesn't need more, she uses her voice to document the emotions of the original backed only by the ukelele. she really brings out the emotion in those words. gives me goosebumps every time basically. gorgeous (L)
beauty in the details ileramos. sometimes the most beautiful things are the most simple. and i for one think that florence is going to be one of the great songwriters of our generation.
NoStyleEmily~I actually love it when a group does such a 'bare' song, probably because of their pure feelings come through easier with less unnecessary background noise.
I love this. Its just beautiful. For the people who don't like her voice being the trumpet, this cover is meant to be just her and the guitar, simple and beautiful. I think her voice is beautiful, and this cover honours the original song.
The times we had Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow Were not all bad We put our feet just where they had, had to go Never to go The shattered soul Following close but nearly twice as slow In my good times There were always golden rocks to throw At those who Those who admit defeat too late Those were our times, those were our times And I will love to see that day That day is mine When she will marry me outside with the willow trees And play the songs we made They made me so And I would love to see that day Her day was mine
i guess im a new but genuine flofan because i simply love her voice, cover or no, the quality of her tones reverberate and this expression leaves a haunting longing with you the same way a postcard from someone far away can and will. genuine fan or just know what i like :-) pic em
florence is my hero, and this song has meant a lot to me for a long time... just in heaven right now listening to the two of them put together! I loove Zach Condon's sound, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this cover. she sings it beautifully :) aaaand my life may just be complete now.
I've noticed a lot of people ripping this version, saying it's not better than the original. I don't think any artist tries to upstage the original artist when they do a cover. You have to think Florence had much respect for the Beirut version and this is her interpretation of it. It's not better, it's not worse....it's different. Both versions are beautiful and get frequent play in my world.
I LOVE YOU FLORENCE. NEVER LEAVE THIS WORLD. BECAUSE YOUR VOICE IS THE VOICE OF ANGELS. AND YOUR MELODIES ARE THE MELODIES OF GODDESSES. And above all you do this all with only human strength. You are the all seeing eye, you are the greatest singer I have ever listened to. You are beautiful in sight and sound. May you love forever so that forever you may sing.
I really really love both bands. Florence Welch is amazing and Beirut are divine. It's great to see an amazing artist covering a song by a divine band, innit ? You have to stop arguing about which version is "better" and just enjoy this!
@rareflorence Zach does the trumpet parts vocally sometimes. I don't recall whether he does in the recording with the instruments drowning it out or not, but he definitely does it pretty much the same way.
Wow- I must be the only one who likes this version more! That's cool with me. I like Beirut, but I'm a huge fan of Florence. I do think this is better than the original frankly, I've been listening to it non stop for days!
@moncor3 It's all about the blue notes, man. She hits a lot of notes that are between intervals, but has perfect control of her voice. You might know something about music, but your brain can't parse melody. The way she sings adds so much drama and tension to her voice. Totally beautiful.

I love how she plays the trumpet with her voice
Omg lol all wee needs is some drums and we have another HB3 album!
Florence is the trumpet btw guys.
Shit... I thought she was just scatting! ;)

Nope, it's not even a good cover. I love Florence, but this was not well-done. Really jarring imbalance between the vocals and instrumentals.
I love jarring imbalances. This is an emotional song about jarring imbalances. It's perfectly imperfect.
that's her style dude, what're you talking about
they both make me cry

Her voice is so raw.
fabulously raw.
got total chills listening to this, i love the beirut version and decided to click this on a whim
Wow, Beirut and Florence should record this song together. Their voices would contrast so perfectly!!!
Check the youtube. Someone indeed meshed two versions into one
Her voice... is just...beautiful.
Although I am not really fond of Florence and I adore Beirut and the original version, I acknowledge that her voice is amazing.
I must admit, when the song started, I went "Oh great, another straight karaoke cover."
BUT!
What a vocal! Absolutely breathtaking, and opens up an entirely new dimension to the song.
Loved Florence since I was 7, I'm 13 now and I still love her just as much, what a woman! :)
now you're 22, do you still love her?
@@ozzymandiasjunior4511 I am 23 now and I love her more than ever ✨
That makes me fell older, im now listeningto her in my dark room with the same feeling of lonelyness
@@LucyM666 grait! May she walk with you many more years!
I listened to the original and this one. Have to say each one has their own special thing about em
I love the way she uses her voice. She doesn't just sing, she virtuously plays the greatest instrument men possesses!!!
Really... I have no idea why people dont like this cover, I liked it so much! Its not a fan thing to like every single song your artist performs. I mean, I really like florence but... Its just that... THIS COVER IS GREAT!!!

The perfect resonance she had in this cover ugh 💙💚🙏🏼
This is my very favorite Beirut song...... Excellent choice for a cover, Florence!! Beautifully done! 💜
I think the thing that makes it so special is the deep and strong voice, which is soothing.
I'm so excited, I love Beirut and Florence. Makes me feel good that she knows about Beirut.
This is soooooo beautiful it brings me back to the summer days
Love both beirut and FLo, never thought this song will be covered by anyone but this is simply beautiful
i love both artists equally and this is a beautiful cover.Hope she would do more Beirut covers in the future.
I love Beirut and I love Florence so I'm on Cloud 10 right now. This is a great cover.
Her voice is flawless.
One of my favourite singers, and just my plain old favourite song ever. Pretty good combo
I'm absolutely in love with this cover. Wasn't sure how she would sound compared to Zach but it actually turned out amazing.
love love love this cover, love the original as well. Zach Condron and her should do a duet it'd be AMAZING!!
just............amazing! pitchy spots and all!
How's that??? One of my favorite artists covering one of my favorite songs❣️
WOW I hadn't heard this Florence cover till now... it's AMAZING!!
bought 'lungs' practically the minute it came out and have adored florence's wicked voice ever since. she is amazing.
Nossa, que combo mortal! Florence cantando Beirut. Rendeu meu mês.
i couldn’t get this song out of my head in my dreams. it’s been awhile i missed it
How did I only see this now? I love Beirut and this is one of my favourite songs. Interesting cover.
beauty in the details ileramos.

The times we had
Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow
Were not all bad
We put our feet just where they had, had to go
Never to go
The shattered soul
Following close but nearly twice as slow
In my good times
There were always golden rocks to throw
At those who
Those who admit defeat too late
Those were our times, those were our times
And I will love to see that day
That day is mine
When she will marry me outside with the willow trees
And play the songs we made
They made me so
And I would love to see that day
Her day was mine
ahhh i LOVE Beirut and Florence and the machine..this is perfect.
You hit the nail on the head with that one!
One of the best covers ever! I'm so in love 😍
Guys. It's just. A cover. People do them all the time. I adored it.
This is simply beautiful. I actually love Florence so much!
wow i never thought i'd be hearing this when the original 'postcards' first came out... great memories connected to the original.
I love thiss *.* I love her voice so much !! :)
Perfection. The original's amazing and I personally didn't think anyone could cover Beirut. Flo just proved me completely wrong.
i guess im a new but genuine flofan because i simply love her voice, cover or no, the quality of her tones reverberate and this expression leaves a haunting longing with you the same way a postcard from someone far away can and will. genuine fan or just know what i like :-) pic em

Ohhh I love her too much. I envy her talent.
Shes just amazing.
That is why its a "cover song"....she sings it the way she feels it to be. I LOVE Beirut, and I highly enjoy different versions.
Tears of joy 🥰✌🏾🤗
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! I am in LOVE with the original and it was amazing to hear such a wonderful band cover it
She has the voice of an angel :)
I ♥ this song. Both versions are great in their own way.
@rareflorence Zach does the trumpet parts vocally sometimes. I don't recall whether he does in the recording with the instruments drowning it out or not, but he definitely does it pretty much the same way.
I love her voice and the way how she sings. But no one can sing this song better than Beirut.
Mind. Blown.
COMPLETELY FORGOT THIS SONG EXISTED!!!
Oh my, it's like the first time I discovered it... beautiful.. :}
Every day I breathe, some days I find a new Florence song.
SIMPLY AMAZING!!

Love both Beirut and Florence :)
Guys, don't argue. The original is beautiful, and so is this.
