This song is about “la llorona” or the “weeping woman”. It’s a Latin American folklore about a woman who was left by her husband so in a fit of rage and grief she drowns her two sons. She is then doomed to walk the earth, typically around river beds, in search for her children. It is said that if you hear or come near her, bad luck will come your way.

SORRY BUT NOT. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT THAT HORRIBLE AND EVIL GHOST. ITS ABOUT A LIVING WOMAN WHO IS SUFFERING AND CRYING FOR SOME REASON. THE WORD "LLORONA" IS A QUALIFYING ADJECTIVE IN SPANISH.

The Story Alejandra is sharing is mostly how I have heard. And if I'm not mistaken, out of that spooky story, the original song is inspired. And remade through time, and maintaining the strong rich Mexican culture that makes many of us Mexicans so emotionally attached to our culture. We love it's poetic beauty and it's very valuable to us.

The song has different verses depending on the regional version you get it from in Mexico. La llorona is more of a tragic figure: according to most versions of the legend she was a woman who was the lover of a Spanish noble man who left her to marry a Spanish noblewoman. La llorona, in her despair, lost her mind and drowned her children she had with that man in a river. when she came to her senses, she realized what she did and then completely lost it and killed herself. Now her spirit wanders the streets at night crying and looking for her children. If you hear her cries, you must run away as she brings misfortune and even death. She may also kidnap children she finds at night confusing them with her own kids.

Her talent comes from a line of talented artist. Her father is a famous singer, and her father's parents are famous singers and actors. She looks just like her grandmother, the great Flor Silvestre ( known for her huskie sexy voice).

Got it right, it is about Death. This song uses the figure of "la llorona" ( the one that cries) as a representation of death but it shows the beauty of the dichotomy of existence: life & death. If you live, at some point you have to die. If you experience the beauty of life you will experience the beauty of death. So simple and complicated at the same time

In the Spanish language when two letter "L" are together is makes the "Y" sound so Llorona is pronounced "Yo-rona".
Check out Kendrick Lamar- Keisha's Song. Great storytelling skill and it's a deep story he tells. Much love and respect.

They say that when the "La Llorona" "appears" to you and takes you to the river, it is because you are going to die. When she follows La Llorona through an altar of the dead, there is no one but the two of them, she takes her to the river and appears as "Catrina" means that she has already died ...On the way back, when passing by the same altar of the dead, there are all those souls who that day go out to eat, drink and dance, because that is how we celebrate them in Mexico and when they enter the church they take the flower from the coffin and if you notice, at moving the camera no longer appears, because ... it has already become La Llorona

So the song is based around the Oaxacan version of La Llorona’s story, which has a lot less child murdering and a lot more romance and tragic love, to my understanding. This song is someone calling out to her, remembering her in a vey bittersweet way, wanting her back but implying she’s gone for good.

La llorona is an urban legend in Mexico, when she appeared to you it was because "she was taking you", that is, you were going to die, the whole scene is on the Day of the Dead, where we Mexicans celebrate death

At the beggining of the video she die, you can see her in the bed fall a sleep and then she woke up in a strange place outside of the church (just when she see "La Llorona"), she follow her and start to notice that her skin change to skull, at the end she figured out that SHE IS DEAD, Angela dies in the night and woke up in the other world and her coffin is empty because she is walking around into the flowers and colors of dead
