    Wow, tu étais à Montréal??? I love how dedicated you are to learning French, and despite the Babbel lessons using métropolitain French, your accent definitely leans more Québécois! Also, I find it so interesting, because I live in the Montréal area and have trouble finding books in English (that aren't from Indigo...), but in your case, you absolutely used your time in Montréal to get francophone books! And yes, Québécois lit 100% tends to be absurd and a little weird!

    Salut =) (We don't say "Allo" except in the beginning of phone calls by the way).
    Your french is quite good actually (I observe the quebec influence in the accent ^^). It's very difficult to prounounce the words correctly with so many silent letters and the diversity of sounds with the same letters. And the difference between female and male nouns... and the conjugation... Well be brave /o/
    For instance, we pronounce "prophéties" like 'professies" (t as s). I wish you good luck and nice reading with your french TBR (we say PAL for "pile à lire" here). I think you choose very literary books, with metaphors (more complicated to understand if the first level is new). But I admire your ambition, you can progress very fast this way!
    Bonne continuation n,n

    When you come back it would be cool to do a video on indie bookstores/publishers or even our libraries. Libraries here are legally required to purchase their books from indie bookstores. The laws surrounding libraries here is sooo interesting and really helps cement the importance of literacy and local authors.

    OMG but can we talk about how delightful the shape of Quebecois paperbacks are?! So easy to hold, and can fit in a back pocket :P
    My fav bookstores during my last trip to Montreal were : Le port de tête, where I bought an illustrated comic of a dissertation on suicide (called "Vous avez détruit la beauté du monde") ; and the anarchist book store Librairie Anarchiste L'Insoumise, where I bought a bunch of zines (and stickers and pins) because luggage space is at a premium

    So nosey question from a non French speaker: is France French understood by people in Montreal? I know that Quebec French can be difficult for French speakers. I am from the US and my cousin (who is a bilingual Frech speaker) couldn't understand the Cajun (Acadian) French at all. Much to the sadness of the Cajun Drill Sargent, we met.

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  9 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, it is! There are some differences in informal French on both sides but the core of the language is the same in France and in Québec. I learned formal French growing up and I’ve used it in France and Québec with no issue!

    • @TheChibimuffin
      @TheChibimuffin 9 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! Living in Quebec province, I'd say Quebec based francophones understand French francophones better than the French understand us. The Quebec slang is tinted by a lot of anglicisms, words that were somehow deformed over time, local expressions, making it weird and hard for French people to understand. Meanwhile Fench slang is much more literal and understood by most Quebecois. To be honest the French accent in general is simple, but I guess you could compare the difficulty of country Marseillais to Acadian, different in their own way but you really have to pay more attention when listening. Sorry for the long ramble!

    Un autre livre français que je ne peux pas assez recommender, c'est Les Jardins de Zagarand, écrit d'Éric de Kermel. C'est une exploration d'une autre manière de vivre en harmonie avec la nature et les autres. Il a des illustration qui sont très très belles et je dois le relire parce que c'est une histoire magnifique!
