  • Hidden in a small English village is this absolutely incredible abandoned 18th Century church. Apparently it has been left since 1988 with everything still inside, the chairs are covered in dust, there is an open bible left on the side and I even found some old Christmas carols sheets. This church is one of a kind and I truly hope it stays this way for many years to come. Hope you enjoy this weeks videos guys, next week I find some incredible car related items... one of them once had the prancing horse on its bonnet!!

We have old graves in our family cemetary & every year we go & clean them & repaint or whitewash them. It would be amazing if someone could do that with old graves, maybe the mames & dates would be readable. Thank you for showing the graveyard along with the church. 💜👩🇺🇲

A bit of historical insight or you. The Glyn family were aristocratic with several family members holding the title of Baron of Wolverton.
The first plaque you looked at names Edward Carr Glyn, there is a man of this name who was Bishop of Peterborough (may or may not be the same man).
The large cross grave marker was interesting as it had "Waterloo" written on the top, so likely a soldier who fell in the battle, especially given him young age. The Crest in the centre looks remarkably similar to that of the 95th Rifles Regiment, from what I can find they were the only British regiment at Waterloo with a bugle/horn on their crest.
I would love to get involved in some Urbex to add some input on a historical level. Keep up the good work mate.

The problem is these churches cost a small fortune to maintain. If the locals want to have a church for their Hatches Matches and Dispatches Then they must support it financially. That applies in towns as well as country. Most churches are having financial difficulties. My grandmothers maiden name was Glyn She was from the potteries. There is confusion her father found out his name was Gwlyn When he tried to get his pension in 1940 The family were originally from Wales

Thomas Mears was a a bellfounder who was born in 1775. He died in 1831. He was a co- owner of the Mears and Stainbank foundry situated at white chapel in London. He would prevent rival founders competing with him by buying their foundries. One of those foundries he purchased was that of John Rudhall whose family had a foundry in Gloucester from 1682 until John became bankrupt and sold to Mears in 1821. Unusually though, Mears never closed the Gloucester foundry unlike the others he purchased, he rented it back to Rudhall presumably as rudhall was in his 60s, he wouldn't found bells for more than a few more years. Mears and stainbank was sold to the Whitechapel bellfoundry after Mears died John Rudhalll is my 4x great grandfather and I wrote and published a book about the rudhall bellfounders which includes information on Mears and Stainbank.

Thomas Mears was firstly apprentice and then partner in the firm of Lester, Lack & Chapman, taking it over in 1767; the business remained in the Mears family name until 1865 but the bell foundry at Whitechapel goes back at least to Robert Mot in 1570 who first used the trademark of the three-bells in 1583.

Remarkable thing to find, and should be preserved. Fascinating stuff, gotta love history. Hint for reading faded inscriptions on stone, a fine spray of water can sometimes bring out the lettering. @14 27 that's a Military grave or memorial, the regimental crest shows what are called ' Battle honours', I saw Waterloo, Inkerman & Sevastopol. Fascinating stuff.

I would love to see some person who has the money take this church and remove it so that it can be restored and opened up for services again. This would be a wonderful church to have in your town or any town for that matter.
I would love to resurrect it if I had the money to have a quality removal company take it apart and move it to the town I live in when I am in the United states. The boiler system that is partially removed and covered in giant spiders would have to be removed and replaced with something that is more efficient and has much more ease of maintenance.

I'm not religious or anything like that. But I admire the architecture that churches and the likes have. Such a shame that it comes to this ☹️ Should never be abandoned, this could make use for all kinds of uses e.g homeless, fete's, activities in general. Surely money raised would help restore all that's required. I know you can't give the location away because of dickheads that trash places and think their hard at doing it. But I was wondering if you approached anybody in the area about the disrepair of a once lovely looking church that's been stood for centuries. And the bells are awesome 🔔🔔
