Hi Glarses! Appreciate you stopping by! Haha, I know how you feel about the browns. I wonder if more lube on browns will just turn them into linears...
Really is I love watching this guy. He has a great 17$ custom cable video which is game changing imo. Your work aint bad it self though no pun intended.
I think I might like the sound of these more than the creams. I think you're spot on, shaking a can of spray paint and it's so satisfying. Idk if im gonna make them, but thanks for the info for the future!
These actually sound so good. Im torn between being too lazy to desolder my creams and mod them and having them sound similar to this. Underrated video
Hi Grabbestei! Haha I hear you. But I love a batch of nice NK Creams also. Mine were just a bit messed up so I had to desolder them out... Gave me the perfect reason to convert them to this!
I made a Frankenswitch between Durock L5 linear and Gateron Oil Kings. Used the bottom housing and leaf from the Durock, then used the upper housing, stem, and spring from the Oil Kings. Resulted in a fast-actuating, smooth, heavy, deep-sounding switch with muted RGB.
I hand-lubed my outemu brown switches since they were a spare set lying around , but man, I've never heard such a huge change in sound profile, super creamy while being cheap
Hi PTSDthiccestboi! Haha these are lubed and filmed. Sorry I didn't show the lubing during the assembly, but the switches were lubed previously so I just used them as is. Hope that helps!

I thought you were just a mad lad for doing this but damn they actually sound so fire! I have a bunch of browns I dont use but guess I have an idea now.
I changed my gateron brown optical switches to linears by removing the leaf that adds tactility, they're basically reds now but a touch heavier which is perfect for me I was wanting a linear inbetween reds and blacks (i know they do yellows but the yellow gat opticals are 35g not 50g) with optical they linears don't have a leaf so I saved myself buying a lot of 70 lol.
My gawd I just listened to other sound tests of other linears and these just hit the spot. I'm more of a holy panda kinda guy, but damn I might have to make these
Hi Vincent! So glad that you like the sound! The sound of these are unique and I've been really enjoying these as a daily driver! It reminds me why I got into this hobby in the first place.
I used Gateron black housings before and cream stems. You get the same effect. Either way. It’s fun to experiment and try different things with switches
I actually have a gk61 that came with optical gat browns. I removed the metal leaf that gives it tactility since it's not needed for actuation. I then lubed the switch with super lube and it's literally the smoothest switch I've ever used
maybe im a weird one, but i combine holy panda with gateron blue bottom housing, might be too tactile so need to lube the leg the result was more tactile/snappier holy panda with lots of the bottom out range remove, sound quieter and deeper too
I think the reason people throw cream stems in other housings is the same as using Halo stems for HPs, they both have slightly longer stems which change the bottom out sound in whatever housing they're thrown in. I love how these pop but didn't like the strong tactility of HPs, need to get me some creams and throw them in cherry housings:))
I did something similar, put gat yellow springs and stems in cream housings with films and a timy bit of lube (on spring and leaf) called em lemonchellos
Hi T-T Unknown! They truly are unique sounding switches. After using so many of the common linears, I needed a change and these fit the bill nicely. They're going to be in my D65 for a while!

They sound good-a little higher pitched than I'd like. I think I actually prefer the sound of the creams as-is-but then, as much as I like the sound, I just type faster on a tactile switch. Honestly if I haven't got anyone else to annoy, I kind of like a clicky switch like a tuned Kailh BOX Pink … but no amount of tuning seems to keep those things from ghosting after about six months. Disappointed. Currently driving some Akko jelly pink switches. Better than I expected.

Hi kurisu! The cherry bottom housing will work, but the sound signature will vary. Hi Brandon! The long one has more potential energy at top, and helps the switch feel much tighter and a bit "heavier" Vs. the shorter spring of the same weight! After I tried out the long versions, they became my favorite for linear switches now!
so was it the change of springs and film that changed how it acts and sounds? or the housing? cause all it seemed changed was the spring and film, nothing about the actual key.
Hi thisjustanother! The biggest change comes from using the gateron lower housing with the cream stem. The gat lower housing is smoother than the cream lower housing and also has a different sound profile as well. Hope that helps!
Speaking of the Gateron Blue housings, you could totally fling some Halo stems into those and get Holy Gats. Sharper tactility than HP’s and less post-travel. Tho Gat blues with linear stems remind me of Invyr Panda linears, and not in a good way.
You can, but the sound won't be as clacky! If you use the Cherry MX black housings, and if you drop cream stems in there, you're creating something closer to the black cherry pies actually. JWK lower housing, Cream Stem and Cherry MX top! Another good switch.
