    I just did this kit with my 3.5 yr old. First time, kept her mostly watching. Key is very clean water, hot water, good mix (used a whisk, spinning it in my hands). Kept it in a windowsill for about 2 weeks. Water was all evaporated. Cut the rubber cup apart to remove it.
    Best part might be afterwards when we had all the "waste" material from the side of the cup. Pulled some large crystal sheets from it my kid could handle and explore.
    Used the bottom of the cut down cup to pile up all the "waste" from the cup sides, filled it with a couple mL of water so the pile of little crystal sheet fragments were partially submerged (they dissolve extremely fast in water). Then she could watch smaller crystal growth experiments and be a part of it bc i wasnt afraid of failing the main experience anymore!

    This video says to store in the dark while the instructions say to store it in the light. Which is it?

      We have this kit and followed instructions and kept it in a light area - didn't work! Maybe it DOES need to be in a dark space

    Thank you. I just finished doing this with my son and worried I’d done it wrong somehow even though I read the instructions. Couldn’t help but look for information on it afterwards just to see. Looks like we did it perfectly and should see some crystals within the next week! Ours was green 🥰

    The instructions that came with the lab say that light, warmth and no vibration are important.
    The video says to make sure it is dark. So what is correct?
    I will try one of each and see what works best.

    • @morecowbell235
      @morecowbell235 2 года назад +5

      After buying one myself and trying both light and dark, I can say that the crystals absolutely need light. They won't grow in the dark.

    The cup is to allow it to dissolve. More may allow it to dissolve, but at the detriment of taking a lot longer to form the crystals. Ideally you want just enough to dissolve almost all of it- like 1-2cm or 1/2 inch high. Pellet or crystal- as long as both are the same mineral it will grow. The most important factor is the heat and time left to grow this thing. The warmer and dryer the air, the quicker it will concentrate the solution to form crystals. Too quick and it all all form at the bottom. Hence, the bad extraction from the cup. The malleable cup eases the extraction.

    How do you get the seed crystal out without breaking the crystals off? Can I dissolve it in boiling water? It will not come out.

  • @allymbn8160

    I tried it and kept the crystals in a warm and dark are for almost a month 26’ days but it started crumbling up once I took it out. Everything outside the seed rock had crumbled. So I put the seed rock back inside the container with hot water. Will it work? What should I do. I need some information 🙏 🙂

    0:44 - seeding rock placed in a glass with solution. 00:46 - end result is in a different glass.
    I bought a kit for my child, we did it together and it didn't work. OK, devil is usually in details so I searched for a proper video tutorial only to find this.
