    Completely untrue
The first reusable launch vehicle was NASA's Space Shuttle first launched in 1981, 34 years before the first succesful Falcon 9 booster landing
Reuse is essential to SpaceX's success but its nowhere near as new or revolutionary as many people think

SpaceX' reusablity is actualy very revolutionary.
Space Shuttle reused it rockets after billions of dollars of refurbishment.
The fact that SpaceX refurbishes their rockets at a cost so low makes it even more revolutionary.

    • @brokensoap1717
      @brokensoap1717 5 лет назад

@@squdardt.9719 Space Shuttle marginal cost was ~500 million dollars and a good chunk of that was from the External tank which was expendable
But yes SpaceX refurbishes boosters for probably 1/4 of the cost of the Shuttle Orbiter, which is expected since the Shuttle was a crewed vehicle much bigger and complex than the Falcon 9 first stage.Of course it also encoutered a *lot* more wear and tear on it's way down since it returned from orbit instead of a slightly suborbital trajectory
In any case they shouldn't be credited the first to achieve rocket reuse when it was being done for *decades* on a whole different level of difficulty

Enjoyed the video a lot :)
However, there are a few inaccuracies, especially in the video footage. I don't mean to undermine your work, simply to point out mistakes so you can learn from them.
For example, when you first speak of Dragon, you show a video of Crew Dragon, a more recent and more advanced capsule.
You indicate that Starship will have 7 engines, however more recently it was decided it would have 6. Also, when talking of BFR (Starship & Super Heavy), you show footage of the ITS (Interplanetary Transportation System), which was the first conceptual iteration of BFR, and is out of date.
You say SpaceX owns LC-39A, when they only have it on lease from NASA.
Love what you do, keep it up ;)

I would go as far as saying Elon Musk is the most important man alive today. Set aside the whole Elon fandom and his cultural relevancy right now, people like him are what push humanity to the next step in evolution. People who don't think short term and who don't constantly obsess over money. Elon has more than once taken a huge gamble with his own money to fund projects he thought were important, he took risks with extremely high stakes, possibly leading to him being completely broke. I couldn't be happier that he has the relevancy and fame he has now, it's shinning a light on important matters such as Space Travel and Renewable Energy.

But space IS one of our best shot to solve climate change in a way that actually fixes issues (and not just delay the inevitable)
space not only is unbelievably rich in easy to access resources, but most of all space is out best access to energy, and energy is the currency we use to make changes happen. Energy is what is the bottleneck to improving our industry, improving our society and fixing climate change. What is the common thing between carbon capture, micro algae to fuel transformation, full electric transportation, advanced manufacturing and even fusion? They require an ungodly amount of power to function, of course they would. That power demand drives the cost of operation up which is the thing that drives those techs back from being extensively used.
The public is unnecessarily scared of nuclear energy so the only working alternative that can sustain the expected scale growth of earth is either helium 4 fusion or orbital solar and both of those require AT LEAST an industrial moon installation. If not pushing for the true goal of an automatic mercury mining operation in order to start creating humanity's Dyson swarm which would remove energy issues all together
