  • The History of The Pilgrim Fathers and Thanksgiving for Kids
    The Pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to reach North America. They sailed on a ship named the Mayflower.
    On December 11, 1620, the first Pilgrims (or Puritans, as they were first known) landed at Plymouth Rock.
    By the fall of 1621, only half of the pilgrims, who had sailed on the Mayflower, survived. The survivors, thankful to be alive, decided to prepare a thanksgiving feast.
    The first Thanksgiving feast lasted 3 days and was held in the presence of around ninety Wampanoag Indians and the Wampanoag chief, Massasoit, was also invited. The drink that the Puritans brought with them on the Mayflower was beer.

    Again, how did Columbus discover a land that was already inhabited by Native Americans???
    Why are the Native Americans described as wild? The Native Americans demonstrated to the pilgrims how to grow crops in that frozen land. If you are going to tell the story, darn it, tell it right!

    • @Fiveminded
      @Fiveminded  4 года назад +4

      "Discovered" a new piece of land they'd never visited before.
      "Wild" used in older texts movies, tv shows, nowadays more PC word "Native". Not my script or audio, I just chose to animate it. I did ask a "Native American" friend if it's super offensive, he said "not to me, it's just a term from the old days".
      As for Native Americans showing pilgrims how to grow crops, that is really interesting, have you got a link to substantiate that? I'm always looking to learn more, and i'm not American so would really appreciate the help from somebody who really knows their history.
      I see you're a teacher, i'll check out your videos later. Thanks for the feedback 😊🙂

    The age groups that this video is made for, are too young for all the politics. However, I do still wonder whether the pilgrims need to be idealised - and the native Americans made to look 'mean'. It's not like the native Americans didn't already have reason, to be unhappy with Europeans.

    • @Fiveminded

      I did the animation based on the audio, but I agree, it could be improved and updated.

      The English and Native Americans were friends for many years, decades in fact and lived peacefully together until Metacom the son of Native chief Massasoit took over and became more antagonistic, starting brutal raids on English settlements.

    First they went to Holland to escape the fines imposed on them for not going to church on Sundays. Fines, not axes. But they didn't like the way their children were being "contaminated" by other belief systems and secularists In Holland . So they went to America financed by an investor, and there they founded a colony where everyone would follow the beliefs of their own particular Christian sect. Shortly after that they imposed floggings and mutilations on other, different, Christian sects. By 1660 they had progressed to hanging Quakers.

      @@Fiveminded Fascinating and entirely at odds with what is taught in American schools up to this very day. Just as sinister is the fact that the in higher education the facts are not hidden. The known facts are given to the inteligencia. Ordinary people are given a myth.

    • @Fiveminded
      @Fiveminded  3 года назад

      I can understand the more brutal aspects not being taught to young children, but then, they can properly research history when they get older. Whatsmore, a lot of history is just supposition and hearsay, and even learned Historians dispute eachothers' "facts" sometimes.

    • @7quicksilver77
      @7quicksilver77 3 года назад

      @@Fiveminded You are missing the point entirely. Most of the children taught the myth never learn the facts, and they are facts, not historical interpretation. The pilgrim fathers were a Christian sect who wanted a society without freedom of choice to worship or live in any other way. Inflicting barbaric punishments on those of other belief systems needs no special historical interpretation. It speaks for itself. The story taught to children is pure propaganda and it is still believed by most Americans today. Thanks in part to the view expressed in your reply "they can properly research history when they get older" That my friend, is simply advocates deception on a grand scale.

      Only Squanto spoke English, he had been taken to Portugal by an English explorer and sold to local monks, he was then sent to England and returned to America, his whole tribe had unfortunately been wiped out by a epidemic that European explorers brought and joined another tribe, be acted as a interpreter for the pilgrims when they arrived..
