Winning means nothing if you allow a team member to get disrespected. They walked off in protest to show that they will not be playing with a team who is hateful. Its not just about winning.

Then you haven’t played competitive sports or accidentally pulled out in front of someone with your car. It’s about respect. If someone calls you a name you let them know they’ve been in a battle with you, that’s how you get respect. Not walking away with straight guys “protecting” you. That gets no respect in real life. Now, Collin looks like a snowflake while Donavan looks like he’s his protector. Not a good look. People look up to Jackie Robinson because he took abuse and gave it back to them on the field. How do you think things would have progressed if he’d had walked off the field with his teammates every time he’d heard a slur? They wouldn’t have made a movie about him that’s for sure.

I support the LGBTQ community 100%. Using homophobic slurs is wrong. The team needs to apologize. I think that the team did the right thing by taking a stand. Discrimination towards the LGBTQ community needs to stop.

Same thing happened to me. The opposing team said I sucked. I cried. My coach and teammates stood by me and we all walked off. Ill show them, I’ll never play again.

@@PuertoRicanBoi127 Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but free speech doesn't apply in most organized sports like soccer. It's usually a governing body that decides the code of conducts (identifying right or wrong as you say) that all stakeholders including players, coaches, trainers, fans, must oblige. There are things far less controversial than using homophobic slurs that a player can't do - for example, if you argue with the referee too much over a call, you could be cautioned. Or, if you criticize the referee publicly during a press conference you could face suspension, or if you decide to kick somebody on the foot instead of the ball because you see nothing wrong with it, you could possibly be sent off from a game with a red card. These rules are established in the context of soccer to maintain discipline, fairness, and sportsmanship. If we allowed everyone to behave as they pleased without any rules or order, it wouldn't be much of a sport. It would be just an event where everybody is shouting and brawling and occasionally kicking the ball without a direction.
It's also notable that all these noble defenders of free speech like yourself don't really care about protecting free speech in essence. They only want uncontested free speech for themselves and those they agree with. But if someone you don't agree with gets censored, you actually support and applaud that.

OK, listen. I don't care if it really happened or not, I just care about how unacceptable it really was for someone to direct that oh-so-awful gay slur towards Collin. And it sure as hell was a million percent messed up too. I most definitely hope that the person who hurled that gay slur at him will soon step up and publicly apologize to EVERYONE that had become offended by his actions. And oh yeah, one more thing. Well, not only racism has no place in soccer, basketball, baseball or any sport for that matter, homophobia ALSO has no place in the world of sports. And yes, i'm talking soccer, baseball, hockey, football, etc. Oh my goodness. God willing I won't hear about any more incidents like this popping up at soccer games across America for what's now left of 2020 and beyond that point. I really, really, REALLY do hope so. Oh man. No, he was reminding him that he's playing a game where people sometimes fight, foul each other, tensions rise, names are called etc. it's not a game that you can forfeit because of a bad word. Ironically they did the absolute gayest thing they couldve done. Don't get me wrong I don't have anything against gay people, I just have something against people who think they are so damn important that they feel them being insulted is cause for forfeiting a fucking football match. So I’ve been trying to find footage of Collin actually playing and see how he is as a midfielder and maybe as a playmaker. I found none so far. All I keep seeing are interviews and stats that saw he’s gone 14 matches, 1 goals and 1 assist. He’s not important on the field, he’s making himself important to media cos that’s the way now. Hilarious.
