This was such a beautiful area of Colorado to explore! I hope you find this vlog helpful as you plan your trip to Canon City and Royal Gorge area of Colorado!
San Isabel & Bishops Castle ate also good places to see.
We are going and staying in canon city in april. Thanks for the video
Hi, is the Royal Gorge train in/out train? As in, does it start and end at the same location?
Yes, correct. Train is In and out!
@@JeanieMarie is this train ride better than the Durango -Silverton? We are trying to figure if it's a good idea to drive to Canyon to do this.
Thank you for making this, and all your, videos. I'm heading to CO in about a month and your videos are a great resource. Your photography, editing, on-screen presentation, and the content are spot-on. If our paths ever cross, I owe you a beer.
The gondolas are nice but the bridge is the best anyway
I lived in Canon City for about 10 years Loved it!
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful video.
I lived in Canon City and have been across the Royal Gorge.Left in 1986 and haven't been back. Thanks for the video. The town has really changed since then.
Thanks so much for watching!
I live in Canon City.
Thanks for such a good video about it,
Thanks so much for watching!!
i am putting canon city back on my itinerary after watching your video.
We were just talking about camping over by the Royal gorge this weekend. I like that little slot Canyon.
Definitely gotta check it out! Canon City has lots of camping options..have fun!!
Enjoyed this! Traveling to Colorado Springs in June from Indiana!
Thanks for all the helpful info! We will be there mid-September.
This is beautiful and you've answered all of my questions about visiting, thanks!!
Thank you for this video! My dad graduated from the old Canon City high school, back in 1963. I don't think it is standing any longer.
I've been there several times, but did not know that detail, about all license plates being made there, and the mountains on the plate being mountains specific to the Canon City area.
Thank you so much for that bit of information that I didn't know!
Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
Love it! ❤❤ really good and enlightening video for someone planning to visit the area.
This is so helpful and informative thanks so much 🙏
So much fun I wanna go 😁thanks for sharing 👍
Definitely got to go! :)
beautiful video guys! stay safe
Thanks so much for watching!
thank you @jeaniemarie for this vlog
Gorgeous views along the hiking trail, the whole video has some special vibe.
Absolutely, would love to do the entire trail next we go! Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching!
Really enjoyed video 👍🏽
I have friends from Canion City. I must go there sometime. Beautiful inspiring video Great views along the hiking trail. I like these red rocks.
Very informative video.
A private company has taken over the facilities at Royal Gorge. Their prices are outrageous, as is the price to ride the train - $89 bucks per person!
I feel the quality and value they provide were worth it to us, in comparison to other trains we've taken in CO. This one was definitely the best one we've done yet. It's a very nice train ride. Food and drinks are quite spendy though.
Charging full price while a main attraction, the gondola, is out of service screams rip-off.
Yes, technically people have a choice…….but, most of the visitors likely come long distances to get here, so most will pay the full fare for half the attraction rather than cast around for something else to do.
Unethical operators. 🤬
@@timdowney6721 I completely agree on the bridge and gondola. We were pretty disappointed that we still had to pay full price especially since the Gondola was the thing we were most excited about doing. So it was pretty expensive to just walk on a bridge without the Gondola ride. Agreed.
I went to Royal Gorge Bridge in the 1980s while attending high school in Canon City. The gondalas aren't the original ones but were rebuilt after the original ride was destroyed in a wildfire in 2013. Went to Buckskin Joe's when it was open.
Who cares about the price, it’s about the experience
Did you miss the dinosaur tracks when you drove up Skyline Dr? They are on the left as you drive up to the top.
When you return to Canon city try the helicopter tour. It's great and not that expensive.....😃
Cool video, after 33 years in Colorado... I'm headed down to Royal Gorge, rafting!
Awesome!! Have a great time! We still need to get out rafting too! Have fun and thanks for watching!
Thank you for your insight into Canon City. We just moved here and haven't seen all of this yet. By the way I do know that they are called bighorn sheep.
If you ever travel to Sydney Australia, be sure to do a bridge climb on the Harbour Bridge. I'm a little scared of heights, but it's just the right amount of fear. Enough to be thrilling, but not enough to overwhelm me. It's a bit spendy, but well worth the money. There are different route options. I took the route along the top of the bridge framework. The other options climb stairs up through the framework, which struck me as worse for somebody with a fear of heights.
Very positive spin on the license plates, considering who makes them :)
Last summer I did go to Canon city, except my train ride got delayed due to a boulder on the tracks. So they had to delay our trip by a day. The day we did get to ride though, we only got to ride half the route because the boulder was still on the tracks. I still enjoyed it though, it was still a nice ride even though it was cut short.
Oh no! That's scary! Glad you still got to ride it and experience it!
We did everything you suggested except the train ride this weekend and it was AWESOME! The tunnels and the slot canyon made me feel like a kid exploring again. There are places you can climb up on the rocks to get amazing views on the tunnel trail. Next time we go, we will definitely take the train ride. Pro-tip for Pizza Madness: you can call ahead with your order and then eat there. The wait times can get crazy there. My family loved it all this weekend. Thank you, Jeanie!
Awesome!! This makes me so happy!! So glad you had a great time and enjoyed it all!! Great tip about Pizza Madness - we got lucky and had no wait, however, I can imagine it definitely being possible. Thank you again, so glad you enjoyed Canon City and the Royal Gorge! It's such a beautiful area of CO!
Good to see the area open again. Closed a few years back due to fire. The vertical tram running again to go to the bottom of the canyon?
First time the family went to the Gorge, you drove across the bridge to the far side. At that time, just a parking lot for more picture taking. The bridge was a bit of a zoo. Both cars crossing and people walking at the same time. At least they controlled the cars. Alternated having them drive one-way at a time.
Yes now I don't think it's drivable they have turned it into a paid attraction. Thank you so much for watching!
We just went to the Royal gorge bridge this past week and they didn't put the vertical train back after the fire.
You had to walk across bridge to get to the rest of the pork, petting zoo,,western cowboy town with shootout skits A ride where you lay on your stomach.& it swings you way out over the gorge and back. Not sure if you noticed but rocks that the pavilions are made of are full of Quartz Crystals. And the gift shop was amazing. Not sure what they kept or lost after fire but is an amazing place to see
Yes we did go across the bridge and saw all that. All rides are additional $.
Jeanie Marie, first off God Bless for forging that bridge and Skyline Drive. I am acrophobic and could not do either the bridge or Skyline Dr. without freaking out, whereas my wife would eat it up. What can I tell you? At some point you said you fear heights, well you did excellent. Either way thanks for the video and would love to venture out there to see Canyon/Canon City. Hope they have some good coffee shops !!
Yes there is some great coffee shops here in Canon: the bean Pedaler and city on a hill.
@@2011wicket Thanks Kathryn
We going to ride the train tomorrow done driving in Skyline Drive too.
Have a great time!! 🚂
Great introduction...where can I find these information?
I’m a new subscriber; love your videos. Beautiful scenery with just the right amount of narration. BTW: I think those “sheep” you reference at 5:10 in your video are mountain goats.
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! Nope, those were sheep, goats looks completely different and only live in high elevation areas :)
Been there Done that . I found the Bridge was a whole lot Better experience than the Gondola’s. Just saying . 🤩
Hi! I was wondering, what's the app you use for the hiking maps?
AllTrails
Are there any good directions on how to get to the slot canyon?
@Jeanie Marie do we need to purchase Royal George train rides and Royal George park admission ahead of time?
I would recommend the train tickets in advance as those can sell out. The bridge I wouldn’t worry about!
How long does it take?
Hi, where can we buy the tickets for the train?
Directly on Royal Gorge Train's website.
I'm excited you did skyline drive...
Growing up here.. it was a 2 way street.... can you imagine the sweaty palms
Where do you go on the train (where is the train station)
Right in Canon City! Just look up Royal Gorge Route Railroad on Google Maps and it will bring you right to the station! Have fun!
@@JeanieMarie we will be there first week in August looking forward to exploring Canon city and the gorge that has been on my husband's list for a long time we are excited
@@metajones3220 you'll love it! Have an amazing time!
I think I'd be too scared to drive up Sklyine Drive. Can you just walk it? Can you rent a bicycle?
Do you prefer colorado springs or Canon City? I think im leaning towards Canon City.. I only have time for 1. This place seems cooler. Let me know if you can :)
If I had to pick one, it would get Canon City.
@Jeanie Marie okay thank you :)
The Royal Gorge Bridge is the highest suspension bridge in the WORLD. (cars were driving across bridge when I was walking across it. Your video brought back lots of memories. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe& God Bless Y'all ❤️
Actually, China has the highest suspension bridge in the World, it is almost double in height! But I'm glad we hold the title for highest in USA :) So glad you enjoyed this, it's such a beautiful area! Thanks for watching!
Are you allowed to take dogs on the trail hikes?
Double-check that on AllTrails. We don't own dogs so I don't pay attention to that.
Would the Colorado train be as fun without the booze?
I DROVE the bridge in 2005. And did not pay anything! Showed up at the south rim, acted a bit like I was lost, and they let me go across! …….About 30% the time there are bighorns on the Tunnels hike.
Twenty seven dollars to walk a bridge?
I went to prison in cañon city I wouldn’t recommend
😮😮 I wouldn't recommend that either! 😬
I'm sure for no reason !
@@elmiguel6725 I was the only guilty man there
@@jonathanhawthorne1821 Whatever, live a good life and enjoy. God Bless
