One of the biggest beauties of this kind of story's universe is that sibling/adoptive/family love is one thing, marital is something entirely different; and marital love is wisest to be kept within one's species. Whereas Kara was *adopted* by Alex's parents, much to Alex's joy, however blunders abounded between the girls at that., and so their bond is ideal for the situation.

Barry around the same age as Kara moved in was fully adopted by Joe and was Iris brother for almost all their lives even Iris saw him that way for a very long time. Now because it's two females who aren't even blood related same as Barry and Iris from The Flash TV show. live together around their teen years to adult years. Come on guys and gals. This is just the perfect ship. If the Flash TV show can do it. So can Supergirl!
I think the difference is Barry and Iris were already friends before him mom died. Them living in the same house created a closer friendship and Barry’s feelings for Iris that he had before just grew. They also referenced each other as best friends, not siblings. With Kara and Alex they didn’t know each other before, and their relationship as it grew formed more sibling-like then Barry and Iris’s relationship did. It’s less about the situation and more just how the two people involved reference each other, like as a best friend, or as a sibling.

So I thought Ok, lets watch 3 epis. And ... I fell in love with the Danvers sisters and ship them so hard. Kalex should be a thing, the chemistry between the actors is amazing. Kara & Alex ain't related by blood so they could absolutely be a couple. They could as well have lived next door to each other when they grew up and now have started to feel things for each other, people wouldn't have a problem with that. But they have with the fact that they are adopted sisters, which is ridiculous. Kara & Alex are now both singles, they both claim they can't live without the other one and they would protect each other til the end so Go Kalex!
