  • After upgrading the steering lock for more angle, the power steering system had to work harder, & therefore generated more heat, which resulted in literally cooking the power steering pump at the track.

Always happens with power steering pumps. The airate the oil so much! Worst part is because they have such a small reservior it just keeps cycling the air through the system!

The vanes move in and out to compensate for the shape of the housing, and maintain a fluid seal. It's the volumetric change between consecutive blades and the out of round casing during rotation that generates pressure.

Im curious, would an underdrive pulley help in situations like these? Is that fluid cooking due to too much use or due to heat from the engine bay?

Recently got a Falcon PS pump that’s modified for my LS1 Cross8 build. I was told they are a better pump than the Holden one.
Not entirely convinced of that. Also have to run Ford PS oil in the system. Have a decent cooler fitted too.
I’m on the fence to fit it.
Thoughts on that because as this shows, the Ford PS pump isn’t bullet proof either.

Can you just go straight to the astra pump set up, really want to do it but would like to see a wiring guide first, there is a video of one in an xb conversion but it has a delayed start, some mentioned how to wire it right but would like to see some one I trust do it first
