Songpan Ancient Town, Sichuan, China from above //

Songpan (松潘; Sōngpān) is an ancient fortified town in northern Sichuan that sat in a critical chokepoint between Han China and Tibet. Because of this, Songpan fort offered whoever controlled it significant strategic value, a fact better appreciated from an aerial vista. In addition to the location having its own source of alpine water, it also served as a significant hub for trade in tea and horses between Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai, and Tibet.
