I get a HUGE kick outta introducing this legendary band to people who have never, ever heard of the LOUNGE LIZARDS. It's a band to DIE FOR. They're that great
WOW JOHN.. Miss you ! Guess what anytime you return to Worcester.... The carpet comes out & you stay at My house ! Not hitting on you yet.. feeling the Love dear dear friend You make me cry in Joy !
it took me a while to like this band, they can be an uncomfortable band to listen to. Now they are one of my favourite bands. They strike a perfect balance between being beautiful and hypnotic, and tense and engaging. They are one of the most cool and unique bands imo.
In the first 35 minutes I have heard the history of Modern American Jazz from Mingus through Davis ,Kirk to Coleman . Incredible . I have not heard this before .I had not listened to this band since mid 80's . My bad . Thanks for posting this
tracklist: - Remember what's in there - Uncle Jerry - One big yes - No pain for cakes - Tibet - The hanging - Evan's drive to Mambasa - Calvin - Big heart - Mr. Stinky's blues - Herr Lazaro - What else is in there
The track list is at 1:39:49. +br1tag posted it a few years ago, but I can't upvote that comment so I'll just post it again: remember what's in there uncle jerry one big yes no pain for cakes tibet the hanging evan's drive to mambasa calvin big heart mr. stinky's blues herr lazaro what else is in there
Wow, I haven't thought about these guys since the mid-90s... It's funny how many other people are saying that in the comments. I guess there was just a certain "scene" back then that this band was a part of. But the music's still just as good today!
It doesn't get much better than this!Since day one i'm a huge fan from the Lounge Lizards and John Luries solo career. But this is just from another world,no words can describe the pleasure i'm having listening to this...Thanks
i always reject to listen a jazz music , untill someday i was listen john lurie's music. fuckkkk i felt like this is some kinda the fucking advant garde music or some shit. the jazz music have no fucking wave . bro this guy so fucking insane. love john lurie. btw i love jim jarmusch films. :)
jazz is a large universe ! you have to constantly seek for your own gems Davis, Coltrane, mingus arnt the only cats :) listen to: terry plumeri-Bees Juju-Nia Micheal Brecker- Nothing Personal Alain Goraguer- J'irai cracher sur vos tombes Melvin von Peebles-Come on feet do your thing
This is really something else, almost out of this world but so human at the same time. Really impresive from start to finish, really a sample of what truly virtuoso musicians can do when they get together and do something free and avant-garde and it's beautiful
Legend has it that the Lounge Lizards would have these type of non-stop jam sessions to hypnotize & mesmerize the audience. So while the audience is in a deep trance, the Lounge Lizards would then rifle through everyone's pockets & purses ripping them off blind. They would then return to the stage without the audience ever knowing what hit them. This folks, is the Lounge Lizards!
Many Thanks for posting this concert. I saw this concert in March 1991. But let me do a small correction. Quartier Latin Club in Berlin, Potsdamer Strasse, was just renamed into "Wintergarten" as it still exists till today.
Shit this takes me back to my youth. Fuck, what happened to those days? It was like gonna go see Laurie today and Zorn tonight and Blind Melon this weekend & Bjork comes in on Monday & then there's the Tom Waits run in a couple weeks... It's fucked now. Thank god the Allmans & the Dan still tour. I'da cut my throat by now...
Who is this John Lurie and why is he lounging with lizards? The cosmos may never know. Witness the snake eating it’s own tail along a desert highway where we are all well dressed.
This show and pieces of others from this tour have been recorded and released on two CD volumes. Live in Berlin Vol I + II. Look them up. Buy them. Well worth the money!
I've had this double disc set since 1998 ish and never thought I would see it performed. Wow. thank you br1tag! and OMG, there is more to the show than what is on the discs! Billy Martin is such a kid!
br1tag ---yer the Lurie guy, too. I listen to yer channel constantly. Yer the first I'm ever subscribing to. Thank you. Let's get a burnt weenie sandwich sometime.
Spitzen Konzert, und die haben damals sogar 2 x am gleichen Abend gespielt..das war einmal recht früh gegen 19:00 und nochmals Nachts fürs TV....und ich war dabei :-)

The ending is one of the most heart achingly beautiful things i ever heard......
I love how Lurie goes over to the percussionist after his solo, probably said something like "HOLY FUCK THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!"
This and a glass of cold water.
