When you are adding a trillion every 100 days to the deficit, things can look great when they are actually pretty terrible in the USA. The American Middle Class is being killed by the government and Wall Street.
I do not think Sunak wants to go down in history as the prime-minister of what is about to come. Over here in New Zealand I was amazed how our Conservatives equivalent wanted to win an election and inherit the previous Labour party's "socialists" deficit while entering dire economic times. Quite alot of the centralised funding decisions do not make it to the many, therefore society becomes unequal and wealth is part of that and always gravitates to the top. In its purest form the workers own the means either by physical ownership of businesses or collective descision making that benefit everyone with the aim of social progress, better health, work life chances, education, transport, insfrastucture and so on. The UK has for the last 45 years created niether capitalism nor socialism its a crappy middle ground that is inneficient costly to the taxpayer and harmful to everyone else. This is manifested in a do-minimum approach to investing the the country's needs for the future (infrastructure takes time and by the time it is completed someone else will get the credit) but focus almost solely on the banking sector (quick wins to look good in fromt of monetarists). Our friend Marco mentioned bailing out the energy companies, in pure capitalism the businesses woud have been allowed to go bust but in a socialist world the bill payers and the employees would have been bailed out, either by offering a transfer to a new public company or another company that was still operating effectively, the workers might have been offered jobs in new/alternative. Instead the owners get an injection of cash, they take a bonus go around the world in their new yacht and make a bunch of people redundant.
