She was in the adult section by accident. They had a child part, but Apollo messed up and put her in the adult part. The child part has no boos. The adult part do
Those who go to the Apollo know the risks. Child or not. To make it at the Apollo all the way to the end of your act is the badge of honor. No sympathy votes, just real ones. Glad I got to be in that audience once.
She was about 13 years old here. I think a lot of girls her age would have lost so much confidence in the moment getting booed or given up on their dreams. She was super persistent, this is really inspiring.
Then they stopped. Hard to explain the Apollo ... It's a known risk. If you make it to the end (Hookman will pull you offstage if the booing doesn't stop) you "made it!" It's Harlem, NYC. Survival of the fittest.
this video perfectly depicts the beauty and strength of this woman even from an early age!! even when her voice was clearly shreaking and they were booing her SHE PICKED UP THAT MIC AND KEPT SINGING!! Such confidence and grace
She had some bad notes, but you could see that she already had a potential and talent at that age. Mad respect for her for continuing that performance like a pro!! She didn't let them take away her passion. Today she is a legend
i loved that... they booed her... put her to the test and she carried on and at the end they all cheered , respecting her both for her talent and courage.
DIVA! This shows an fabulous inner strength. Despite the "boo's" not only kept going as it tuned and ended perfectly. AWESOME! (for any age...more for a child...little woman. ) Nuff LLove
Wow Lauren. You had so much talent at an early age. Despite the nerves and rude people, you persevered. Let's all pour some love on this soul queen. I live in a dull region of Canada, with no live soul or R&B to attend. Truly appreciate your music. Bless you Lauren.
Shame on the audience for booing this beautiful talented young lady! They are simply jealous of her innate talent....she has a beautiful voice and a grace many would only love to have! Well done Lauren for being a pro!! You showed them!👍
They booing her and then she change and hit the key even being nervous. confident LEGEND! and she just upload it on her own channel showing they how funny future is 💀
Love ya, Ms Lauryn Hill, your album - 'Miseducation' - is one of the greatest albums of all times. The music, lyrics, singing on that album brought this lonely Cajun man through one of the hardest periods of his life. Thank you, God bless you wherever you are tonight. You are a blessing! Wish I knew you personally. Thanks again, so much, madame.
It's a Amateur Night. The young Lauryn Hill don't born ready. This footage proves your talent and potential. She keeps pushing on, and born a star few year later. Thank you Ms Lauryn Hill! Who don't Loving You?
This videos got my heart I'm literally in tears...she slayed that performance like a PRINCESS she WAS grooming to be a QUEEN that she IS. The way she kept her consistency in that performance despite those boos...shows she's a true POWER HOUSE. OH HAIL TO YOU QUEEN!!
I like how confident she was! She wasn't worried about them? Guess who still on top & she not worried...People can kill & a child's dream & the dream still lives on.
Young Lauryn Hill here was a diamond in the rough. The Apollo Theater audience was the fire and brimstone necessary. Years later, Lauryn Hill would collect an arm full of Grammy Awards, hit albums, movies, etc
I just tried to tackle this song at a singing lesson... This is one hard song! You can hear she has talent though she's just a beginner here. Lovely to see such a massive talent in her early stages. Tough crowd, I couldn't believe my ears at first when they booed! She got the better of them in the end. :)
I love how inspirational this is. I always assumed you were just born with immense natural talent. Now, seeing you had literally zero talent, and just kept working at it until you soared through the stratosphere, is so encouraging. Thank you for sharing not only your success, but your failure.
Bunch of folks in these comments completely unfamiliar with Amateur Nights at The Apollo. God himself would be booed if he seemed unsure and his voice started cracking. Props to Lauren for turning it around and bringing them home clapping.
She already had the heart, soul and confidence at a young age, but she just needed to break that vocal cord later on to where she was comfortable with every vocal level and then her greatness was revealed. Love her!
This was the mid- to late-80s. Audiences back then didn't know things like "make this song your own" and such. Back then, you pretty much had to sound exactly like the original. It was also right in the midst of Michael's peak and it was considered almost a disservice if you "tainted" his music by not copying him. We know now - and appreciate - when an artist takes a song and reproduces it to his/her own interpretation. As a people, we're also a bit more understanding in that we don't boo our children; we promote them to do great things. And Lauryn did just that.
Not fussed at all, the confidence beams through a blank expression. Greatness within is the driver of talent and skill. She was able to master confidence in her skill and develop in a manner of elegance. Which is the word I have for ms hill. Elegance
this world has some wicked folks in it... to boo a child and try to impact her ability to be courageous in a negative way is pathetic, normally the biggest cowards are the ones who are quick to find and announce what they dont like about somebody else but slow to announce the flaws they have....I love Lauryn...Women still can be talented and not be undressed...Thats good to know....
What people fail to realize is that this performance is what molded her to greatness, facing adversity so young forced her to hone her craft and far exceed expectations. ❤
People hate to adapt to a different style. Years later this child y'all began booing is one of the greatest musicians of time. Inspirational video with a "don't quit" message. Big sis L Boogie
I can clearly hear the undernotes though if you listen closely . She was hitting every note she just needed to learn how to get her voice to it. But she was hitting every note 🗣
On that stage, giving it all she could and she sang it brilliantly, while talentless nobodys were booing her off. And you could also tell she was very mature. Whereas People these days (AKA Justin Beiber) would start crying if he didn't have enough attention.
The apollo used to have a much harsher audience than today but to make it back from almost being thrown off wow thats a true talent laryn hill and what a talent she is,she just needed more energy in the performance.
moral of the story: keep pushing on.
yes 👍
chilly chan I love her so much , she is very awesome and beautiful . She ils my model
everything is everything!
Exactly
This 👆🏿
I love how even though everyone was booing her she kept going and got more confident! I could never do that !
That's what I like about it. She did bad but she didn't let it stop her. And you can tell she was super nervous.
I couldn't do that without Boo's... Let alone with books 😂😂😂
Alissa Nicole sis snatched the mic ❤️
I remember being laughed at by people in high jobs that I wanted.
me neither. Couldn't do it. Would rant on them fuckers who later buy all my albums lol
She didn´t pay attention to the boos... and finally they clapped at her ... and then 10 years later KILLING ME SOFTLY
Booing a child is cruel. A good performance, full of natural variance and imperfection, as is to be expected.
At the Apollo if they don’t like you, you will get booed right off stage
It’s the Apollo, age don’t mean shit!
I think it's I good as a singer my self.
She was about 13 years old here. I think a lot of girls her age would have lost so much confidence in the moment getting booed or given up on their dreams. She was super persistent, this is really inspiring.
Little did they know she was going to be the shit later!!😍😍😍🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
+Monte Antwanee you mean, Bipolar shit. mentally unstable.
+Alex the illuminati gets to people
+Monte Antwanee Yeah!
lol so true
+Monte Antwanee no shes awesome
I cannot BELIEVE that they are booing her... What the hell.
Then they stopped. Hard to explain the Apollo ... It's a known risk. If you make it to the end (Hookman will pull you offstage if the booing doesn't stop) you "made it!" It's Harlem, NYC. Survival of the fittest.
@@katsleggsful that's not survival of the fittest. That's booing of the numbest.
@@Duke49th Harlem is survival of the fittest.
@@katsleggsful Thanks. I say dumbest.
Mad respect for Ms. Hill to have this up. Goes to show keep practicing and following your dreams.
this video perfectly depicts the beauty and strength of this woman even from an early age!! even when her voice was clearly shreaking and they were booing her SHE PICKED UP THAT MIC AND KEPT SINGING!! Such confidence and grace
They can't boo her bad ass now! She's one of the few with TRUE, RAW talent!
WOW. She kept her composure through that BRUTAL heckling. She's amazing
Imagine being a person who booed Lauryn Hill
I would've killed myself lol
Yup! Ik, funny they feel stupid!! 😵
Jajaja 🤣
This!😂❤
She had some bad notes, but you could see that she already had a potential and talent at that age. Mad respect for her for continuing that performance like a pro!! She didn't let them take away her passion. Today she is a legend
I think the notes fell because deep down she was a bit nervous with the people booing at her
she had a few iffy notes, but other than that, glorious!!
she was prob nervous
Yeah prob she was nervous, she was just 13 on a big stage and was still growing up, her voice was changing and stuff
She was in the adult section the kids section don’t boo
@@meanieeheart4236 You can tell she's really nervous. I would be too. Shit. Lol
@@katc9744 yea I can tell, I've been singing since I was young and I can confirm that when your nervous you can lose all your ability to sing
So it's true, practice makes perfect.
Marius Bogdan Rujoiu only i gotta say she had talent.
But she had talent to assist with that
i loved that... they booed her... put her to the test and she carried on and at the end they all cheered , respecting her both for her talent and courage.
No wonder you made it...they booed and you sang till they had to applaud you....I wish I was that confident
And then half of those people ended up buying her album (The Miseducation of Lauren Hill) later on....#karma
yup karma ISA bitch
19EHF I knowwwwww People be phony, when your regular People just show hatred towards you and then when you show you the shit They your homies
You mean 100%

ALL OF THEM BOUGHT IT!!!
She could've stop but my girl kept going!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Look at her now👑
I love how she stepped her game up when the crowd started booing .
And later recorded one of the greatest albums of all time.

She’s SO talentet!!! But you can hear she’s nerves because of the booooh-ing 😢
Bravo👏👏👏👏❤️
Side note: I love her hair...it looks so healthy and lustrous. Her hair is so pretty.
You could hear the nerves defnitley are there with the voice shivering. Damn them. She was just a child there.
It aches watching a young Lauryn go through this…but it just makes her success that much sweeter. ❤
Yeahh
Wooo! She's so beautiful!
Thats why she Is great ...this moment of personality and glory
shows Her personality
Shame on the audience for booing this beautiful talented young lady! They are simply jealous of her innate talent....she has a beautiful voice and a grace many would only love to have! Well done Lauren for being a pro!! You showed them!👍
they didn't know those boos would end into someone great💖💖💖💖💖💖
An Apollo audience is more brutal than a jerry springer audience. Apollo booed Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Luther Vandross, and other greats.
They booing her and then she change and hit the key even being nervous. confident LEGEND! and she just upload it on her own channel showing they how funny future is 💀
Never knew she Did a version This is a young Lauryn Hill she looks like shes just finished Sister Act 2
or a year before
she starred in sister Act 2
God is faithful lauryn god is faithful
Humiliated will be exalted
All them people that boo'd her feel real salty😂😂
She carried on like a queen ! I aspire to keep going on in life with the courage she had to keep going despite all the people booing her ❤️❤️❤️

Do people not understand that they will boo ANYONE at the Apollo?
she was beautiful then as a young lady and grew to be the most beautiful woman in the world...keep it real Miss Hill

This video is inspirational! Lauryn hill is one of the best to ever do it! Not her best performance but she sucked it up and become a legend 👏🎉
I feel so bad for her during that performance when people where booing her but they people bought her amazing album afterwards

Those people who booed her have ear problems, because she sang so well. What jealous people.
What people fail to realize is that this performance is what molded her to greatness, facing adversity so young forced her to hone her craft and far exceed expectations. ❤
This is one of the misadventures of Lauren hill. She became a superstar, because of these misadventures!
