The third camera is a good upgrade but was hoping it supported portrait mode for vertical images similar to the Mini 3 pro. It would be great to have full quality images without cropping. Also, a drone only option for pilots that already have a compatible controller. I'm guessing DJI will do a delayed release for the drone only option like they did with the Mavic 3C.
Thank you for your review, Russ. I own the standard Mavic 3 and use it for landscape photography. While I understand the benefits of the x3 camera and the improvements made to the x7, personally I wouldn't need either. The 958g weight of the Pro means it will be classed as C2 in Europe. This requires a minimum of 50 meters distance from people and buildings (150 meters without the A2 certificate of competency). Thanks Russ. You made my mouth water!!!!! The Air2s and Evo lite Plus may have a new big brother. Looks so exciting. Excellent video Russ. PS- Russ went back to your early drone content. It is a blast and you did an excellent job back in the day.
Wayne George 1 second ago Russ, do you recommend the DJI Care refresh plan? Not sure I am sold on that but want your opinion before make a purchase, thanks.
Good Morning! I recently purchased the Mavic 3 Pro... While trying to change the Advanced Gimbal settings, I couldn't find that option. I am using the RC Pro not the RC does that matter? Were you able to find these settings? Thanks!
Thank you, Russ, for your detailed overview and first testing of the new Mavic 3 Pro. Wow, the Gimbal assembly is huge! I can see why you said if your going down it’s going down nose first. The three camera configurations is truly over the top and impressive in the imaging results. ! I look for to your future videos on this new bird! Take Care🙏
Apparently you will not be able to purchase the drone by itself. The lowest pricing is the drone with the DJI RC for $2199.00 usd: tinyurl.com/Mavic-3-Pro
@@51Drones thank you so much. I'm trying to find a hard case for my Mavic 3 pro while I wait for it to arrive. I'm also trying to find a backpack to carry the hard case in when I'm hiking or riding a bicycle. I'm amazed there aren't any hard case backpacks for the drones that I have found. Spending this much on a drone I want a hard case protection at all times.
Russ, I bought an iPad Pro 2TB that I use to transfer photos and videos directly from my Mavic 3 Pro. Can you do a video on how to transfer from the drone to an iPad, so that other folks can learn how to do it. I want to do a video like that but I just don’t have the time. Maybe you can help us with that.
I'm upgrading from the Air 2S as well. Did you notice that on the flight tests listed on DJI that the drone can fly for a longer period of time than it can hover? This seemed odd to me.
"the drone can fly for a longer period of time than it can hover?" DIRTY AIR. A drone that is hovering is inside a down-draft of its own making so it has to work harder, maybe twice harder, just to hover.
Russ - First let me say I really enjoy your videos. You have a way of explaining things in a simple user-friendly way. It should be no surprise your channel has grown as much as it has. I remember subscribing early on when you first got started. I had just got my Mavic Pro about that same time. Since then, I bought the Spark (love it) and the Air2. I'd like to start using a controller with an integral display, but the Air2 is not compatible with any of the current display controllers (and with Remote ID on the horizon, I'd have to get some sort of module to even use it). So, I figure it's time for an upgrade. I like the Mini Pro3 for it's portability and that it doesn't require registration (with smaller battery) or Remote ID. Question: I understand the Mini 3 Pro is Remote ID capable, so will the Remote ID be activated no matter what, even though the drone doesn't require registration with the FAA? If I understand correctly, the Air 2s doesn't avoid activation or Remote ID. Or have I misunderstood? This drone seems to have a slight edge in the optics capability, and it can handle the wind better. The nice thing here is I can use my Air2 Fly More accessories with the Air 2s. The next step up would be the Mavic 3 Classic or Pro. With the Fly More package, they would be about 2x the cost of upgrading to the Air 2s. The Pro with the Fly More is a significant price tag, but as you can see, I've skipped several in-between steps and my total spend going right to the Mavic 3 Pro would be about $600-700 more to date. Knowing all that you do for each of these, which option would you recommend? I didn't mention the Mavic 3 Classic, but that is an option as well.
Great video ! How much the big head reduces the gimbal tilting motion range ? Does the main d-logM - mode work at ISO 100 ? ( D-log started at ISO 400 in Mavic 3 ) Thanks
How do you pull real estate clients in? I’m just starting out and have not been able to get any agent wanting a video/photos. Any suggestions appreciated!!
Thank you, Russ. That is very well said, done and demonstrated. I too am upgrading from an Air2S to the Mavic 3 Pro. I am looking forward to the experience. Thanks for making this video it was very informative and helpful. Have a great day. 😀
I have a magic 3 thermal and it will not take off at night unless I put a flashlight in front of it tricking the front sensors my question is have you heard of this problem ? Thanks Barry
The current Mavic 3 7x tele camera has a big negative when flying at night where there are any bright lights for example on buildings. It blows them out with vertical flares. That blowout is not at all present using the wide-angle camera. I have to go into Photoshop to painstakingly fix nighttime city shots. Does the Pro have this same issue with either the 70mm or 166mm? If you aren't near a city can you test this out with street lights or lights on houses?
Good day. Do you know if it is possible to change from 1x to 3x to 7x while still recording? Or do you need to stop recording to toggle through each zoom setting? Thank you.
Great video. I opened a new credit card today for this reason. I need to upgrade my mini 2. I take my part 107 test monday so this was perfect timing. Thanks for the confirmation though im cringing at the price. Definitely getting the pro controller with it as its a good deal. Wish youd covered the differences with the pro and the pro cine. I'm trying to decide if I should spend the $900 more or not for the cine. I'm thinking I don't need it and could invest that into a mini 3 pro or a mini 4 if it comes out this year.
@@51Drones Thanks. I was thinking it wasnt. I did go ahead and order the 3pro with the pro controller fly more combo as I have an old controller i got with my mini 2 and the tripletek tablet tbh was cumbersome with it.
I'm somewhat feeling underwhelmed I guess. Great product for sure but other than a bit better "camera compression" there seems to be nothing more to talk about. I was hoping for more improvement in the clarity of the explorer mode and more not less flight time for a pro Flagship model. I'll just keep my M3, not spend another 2+ grand and wait for the M4. Hey thank you for the explanation of how the manufacturer tests for flight time. My M3 though advertised at 46 mins. fly time never ever has achieved more than 25 mins. so really I'm still waiting for a true 30 min. flight time product in these Flagship drones. The P4p vs 2 actually did get way better times but hey what would you honestly say, for the price is it honestly worth it to upgrade from a M3?
I'm looking now and I'm still confused. The previous 3 (which now shows not available in the US on DJI's website) had the tele, so all we're picking up is the short tele lens and losing three minutes of flight time? If so I'm going to get the 3 used and just buy new batteries when needed.
How about remote ID? If I purchase a Magic 3 Pro today will it come equipped with remote ID to meet that requirement coming in Sept 2023? I’ve asked DJI and they don’t have any answer for me strangely enough, but I think you may have a better relationship with DJI and can get that answer for me - thanks Russ!
Finally got a reply from DJI in the chat: Thanks for waiting. As we checked and coordinated with our Support team, Mavic 3 Pro supports Remote ID (RID) requirements in the United States
Okay, M3pro fly more combo (rc pro) $3,889 and the M3pro cine premium combo (rc pro) $4,799 whats the difference and is the Cine worth the extra grand when the M3pro has an upgraded camera?
Russ! I think I found a flight setting that likely most pilots are unaware of. Before I disclose what I found, I just want to say to everyone, use at your own risk and I am not advocating this in any way. I am only reporting that this setting can be changed. Here it is. The Mavic 3 Pro has a default max altitude of 1,643’ (well above the 400’ legal flight limitation) The normal 1,643’ max altitude setting can be changed to 3,280’. At any point during a flight, tap the “flight” indicator on the top left of your RC screen. This will bring up the current flight settings. Tap and drag the max altitude slider all the way to the right. You will see a warning message that you are required to agree to before it will apply the altitude limit change. This increased max altitude setting only affects the current flight. It must be set on each subsequent flight.
great job making the video...one question though...can you use the HDMI output on the Rc pro to hook it up to a TV while you are flying the drone simultaneously and watch the footage live on the display !?
I gave in, sold my M2P and find this thing already back ordered on Amazon. Anyone order successfully from DJI? I tried to order my last drone from them and it never shipped after a month of being told it had shipped by DJI chat support. Don't want to deal with that again. How long does it take to arrive from China?
I've been enjoying doing POI with the 7x lens since DJI added it around V01.00.900 or .1000 - the compression, plus a 5 mile diameter orbit is unique- no full protection yet though, lol
Question if you don’t use pro res and are fine with using a memory card and don’t need the 1TB of internal memory on the M3 Pro Cine is there any other reason to get the Cine version of the M3 Pro and instead get just the regular M3 Pro. Just want to make sure I’m not missing something else?? Thanks in advance!
I was told that uav forecast only updates there app now 3 hours out of each day ?? Just a piece of info you might want to be aware of !! But nice work Russ keep them coming been a long time fan of your work!! 👍🏻👊🏻
I'm needing a hard waterproof case since I will be taking this kayaking often. Will the Mavic 3 pro fit cases for the mavic 3 or will we need to modify them? Whats some of the better waterproof cases out there?
🤤 I would love to have the Maverick 3! I still have the Mini 2 which I love but still 😅 A better camera can be the difference between life and death. I’ve watched 100’s of hours of drone footage from Ukraine and have seen phenomenal footage from one side contrasted by many hours of the most wobbly, jenky, pixelated and barely discernible footage from the other. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new drone! ❤
Hi. The batteries of the Mavic 3 Pro, are the same for the normal Mavic 3 and Classic? Are they the same batteries? Thanks. And the RC Pro controller sell With the Mavic 3 Pro is suitable for the Mavic 3 and classic?
Very important question....is the zoom camera on the new Pro version, digital or optical. BIG difference in quality when zoomed in. If it isn't optical, I have to question the wisdom of these extended zooms and one more reason to keep my Mavic 2 Zoom even though I own the Classic as well
@@CaliforniaPhantom The 3 lenses are fixed, 24mm, 70mm, and 166mm, they're not optical zoom lenses, they're telephoto lenses, they each have digital zoom settings (which is the same as cropping in post, so kind of worthless). This from DJI about their "digital" zoom ranges: Digital Zoom (only in Normal Video Mode and Explore Mode) Hasselblad Camera: 1-3x Medium Tele Camera: 3-7x Tele Camera: 7-28x
I hear the 3x camera is basically the same as the mini 3 pro. Speaking of the mini 3 pro there was a firmware update for it so you can use the new goggles from DJI with the motion controller 2.
@@51Drones it looks like it. If the mini 3 pro was released today I bet the zoom would be insane. Instead of the 2x zoom it would be the 7x zoom. The only thing that is the same is the censor. I wish they would make a better version of the mini 3 pro. I can’t wait to save money for this drone as I’m looking for a secondary drone for roof inspections and other projects down the road. Got my p107 last month and I love what I am doing now.
Saw on the DJI website that the Goggles 2 and new motion controller are now compatible with the Mavic 3 series and the Mini 3 Pro. Can you confirm? I found that under the Mavic 3 pro buying options where the Goggles 2/motion controller was listed as an accessory package below.

Hlo sir
Best drone who
Dji phantom 4 pro v2
mavic 3 pro
Plzz reply 🙏
Russ, I was looking at getting the DJI Mavic 3E. What are your thought since we now have the Mavic 3 Pro? Thanks.
Completely different uses. One does commercial mapping with mechanical shutter..this one takes pretty pictures.
@@tmiddleton100 Thanks, T Mid!
Okay, M3pro fly more combo (rc pro) $3,889 and the M3pro cine premium combo (rc pro) $4,799 whats the difference and is the Cine worth the extra grand when the M3pro has an upgraded camera?
The Cine can record in Apple ProRes and has a 1TB internal drive. I don’t think the extra money is worth it for most people
👍👍✌️ Very tempting. May have to start saving up.
Russ! I think I found a flight setting that likely most pilots are unaware of. Before I disclose what I found, I just want to say to everyone, use at your own risk and I am not advocating this in any way. I am only reporting that this setting can be changed.
Here it is. The Mavic 3 Pro has a default max altitude of 1,643’ (well above the 400’ legal flight limitation)
The normal 1,643’ max altitude setting can be changed to 3,280’.
Woww... nice 😍👍
great job making the video...one question though...can you use the HDMI output on the Rc pro to hook it up to a TV while you are flying the drone simultaneously and watch the footage live on the display !?
Yes
I gave in, sold my M2P and find this thing already back ordered on Amazon. Anyone order successfully from DJI? I tried to order my last drone from them and it never shipped after a month of being told it had shipped by DJI chat support. Don't want to deal with that again. How long does it take to arrive from China?
Hey Russ......meant to ask a while ago and likely missed it in prior threads/posts.....how did you come up with the name "51 Drones"??
Watch my 100,000 thank you video. 😁
I've been enjoying doing POI with the 7x lens since DJI added it around V01.00.900 or .1000 - the compression, plus a 5 mile diameter orbit is unique- no full protection yet though, lol
I have a stupid question, is there a way to buy the mavic 3 pro drone only? I already have a dji rc controller.
Not a stupid question. No, you can’t buy just the drone unfortunately
Nope. It’s overkill
Have to be modified
🤤 I would love to have the Maverick 3! I still have the Mini 2 which I love but still 😅
A better camera can be the difference between life and death.
Yes and yes
@@51Drones Thanks for the reply
So in the end i just need the drone alone.... I have the mavic 3 cine Edition
no range test ?
Great! Next step, DJI needs to update the waypoint function so we can use the zoom mission settings for all lenses
Thank you!
Nice video man 👍🏻
Thanks Jasper. Not my best, as the weather was crap.
Is the 3x camera just stitching 4 frames in camera to get 48MP?
It’s a Quad Bayer sensor
@@51Drones Interesting. Never heard of those before. So it shoots in RAW?
Why pack a drone with 3 cameras that can only shoot in the normal color profile unilaterally?
How bout mech shutter on that micro 4/3 cam Russ? 🤔
Nope
@51 Drones Ah shux..welp we've always got the M3E for that lol..keep up the great stuff broseph! ✊️💯
Is she good?
Very important question....is the zoom camera on the new Pro version, digital or optical. BIG difference in quality when zoomed in. If it isn't optical, I have to question the wisdom of these extended zooms and one more reason to keep my Mavic 2 Zoom even though I own the Classic as well
All optical
@@CaliforniaPhantom The 3 lenses are fixed, 24mm, 70mm, and 166mm, they're not optical zoom lenses, they're telephoto lenses, they each have digital zoom settings (which is the same as cropping in post, so kind of worthless). This from DJI about their "digital" zoom ranges: Digital Zoom (only in Normal Video Mode and Explore Mode)
Hasselblad Camera: 1-3x
Medium Tele Camera: 3-7x
Tele Camera: 7-28x
I hear the 3x camera is basically the same as the mini 3 pro. Speaking of the mini 3 pro there was a firmware update for it so you can use the new goggles from DJI with the motion controller 2.
Not even close. Much better.
DJI Googles 2 and DJI Googles Integra now listed as compatible with Mavic 3 series!!!!!!
And DJI Mini 3 Pro!!!
Yep!
Saw on the DJI website that the Goggles 2 and new motion controller are now compatible with the Mavic 3 series and the Mini 3 Pro. Can you confirm? I found that under the Mavic 3 pro buying options where the Goggles 2/motion controller was listed as an accessory package below.
Yes, it is. Still waiting for my goggles to arrive!
@@51Drones Great, I didn’t see it mentioned in the DJI Fly update notes
