    Nice going man, I’m currently working for a farm down in South Dakota. It’s definitely shaping up to be just one of those years.

    Nice video! That had to split the tractor to do the seal....$$$ for that. That ground moisture will help as it rises at night. If you can get a couple inches after you everything planted...but it's not going to wait that long. Slimy is fine as long as it stays warm. In North AL, they're expecting high 30s in a day or two...good grief.

      Slimy soil take a little more effort... have to watch the seed depth, compaction, and any mudding/hairpinning issues. The SDX with the new scrapers is doing a pretty good job. With it slimy too, can't tell how close to get to some wet spots when the tractor feels like it's shimming around.

    How do you like this drill? I would like to get on for cereal crops. Granular would be applied ahead of time and tilled in, then seed applied with the drill. Would like to utilize a liquid starter on the drill as well. What are your pros and cons? Life expectancy on wear parts? We look to seed 500-1000acres a year.

      It's worked ok, fairly straight forward. I think it has 15000 acres on it now, us being the 2nd owner of it, probably put on 9000 ourselves. Still original disks but are worn to the point where if we have to change scrapers/openers again they'll need to be changed... will be a heck of a job. Couple bearings here and there, some wheel and walker bearings as well. Have changed the scrapers twice on it since buying it. The rubber/plastic trailing trench closers hate rocks, but the rest of the machine has faired well in all sorts of conditions. No cracks or welding has been done at all for ours, but do have to pay attention to bolts and hangers as sometimes a random bolt will break, but there's plenty else holding it all together.

    That repair cost more than twice what I paid for my whole truck. Of course it could use a new engine and transmission now...

    Good video. Thanks. A couple of questions. Why do your grow durum wheat instead of regular spring wheat. Also, what advantage is there in planting flax, vs other plain type crops?

    • @farming4g
      @farming4g  5 лет назад +1

      Main reason is diversity for both of your questions... since there are some markets for those crops. It's also good for soil health and weed control with crop rotations as every variety utilizes nutrients and the soil differently, as well as different sprays so weeds can't get established.
      Last year, had trouble with ergot in the wheat, so it was very important not to seed very much cereals this year. The acres that the durum was going on should be ok.

      Would have been same on parts, can't imagine labor though! These guys were $20/hr cheaper than Titan.

    would that drill work well for direct seeding in to hay land with more grass seed?

    • @farming4g
      @farming4g  5 лет назад

      It should. Would it be on areas with not much trash/old grass? How hard is the ground too? This drill can put a lot of down pressure to penetrate.
      A lot of farmers here for many years as CRP came out sprayed it down and directly notilled their crops in.

    Do you have row shut off on that drill

    • @farming4g
      @farming4g  5 лет назад +1

      No... Only thing can really do is plug each run on the air cart and installing a different seed roller. It's how we seed 15" soybean rows with 3 runs instead of all 6 runs at 7.5" for everything else while maintaining proper seeding poundage for it.
      Newer planters have this feature as each kernel is important, but for regular drills it usually isn't.

    great news hey..... china paying record high prices for 2019 soyabeans, guess u will have to truck yours across the boarder as china is paying this to Canadian beans only.......

      I thought I heard the latest was that exports from Canada to China were down significantly since hitting record highs last year, or did something change recently?

      @@farming4g its futures that some farmers are selling,since the crops are only being plant or are still growing, we have a problem with china stopped buying our canola for some bs they dreamed up, showed china 1000 test samples from every canola growing region and non had the problem they are bitching about. its all bs cause Canada arrested some china gov. official for shoplifting, we need to find a better market besids china.
