Iceland, the island of longing in the North. The biggest volcanic island in the world is known for its grandiose landscape, for its geysers and glaciers. But it is even more famous for its horses. Icelandic horses are considered the liveliest horses in the whole of Europe with the greatest stamina. They gallop over mossy banks and lava rock - unfazed by rivers, glaciers, and scree slopes (vast expanses of broken rock) In Nordic mythology, the steed is never far behind the warriors. Where would Siegfried be without his horse Grani or Odin without Sleipnir? Even the sun wouldn’t rise or set if “awake early” and “very quick” weren’t pulling their chariot. From the beginning of colonization, the Icelanders had a close relationship with their horses usually only seen among the horse-riding peoples of Central Asia. And something of this love for horses still exists today. Why did you quote "beautiful", out of curiosity? I'm assuming it's a way emphasize words but I know not all countries use "double" quotation marks or whatever. Just curious. :)
This is one of the very best videos I have seen on animals of any kind. The music was kept quite enough, so it didn’t hurt your ears. And we got to hear the horses and the music of their trotting. This was just very well done. Thank you.
Having read the Icelandic Sagas, I could imagine these people’s ancestors and their tough little horses. They would be very proud of their descendants! ❤️
WOW!!!! What an EXCEPTIONAL documentary. I watch another channel where Graeme has an Islandic in his care, and I wanted to learn more about them. This documentary SAYS IT ALL - absolutely WONDERFUL!!!
Wow, two days to drive the horses to the mountains…what a tough but magnificent adventure with kids…for endless freedom and a life in harmony with nature…🐎💯❣️🌎 I love this horse story much~🥰💞 Thank you for sharing this adventurous video! 🤗👍 🔆AniFam〽️

Excellent production! The closeups of the horses heads in motion speak volumes. Great for recording human - human and human - horse interactions. The fog episode was especially enlightening. Excellent landscape photography. Bravo!
I enjoyed every minute! Appreciation growing every minute for these horses, and the Icelanders who love them and their heritage. ❤️ --Audrey in Chicago

You made my day with this beautiful video, what lovely happy people they are , makes me want to go on vacation and ride that gorgeous landscape on one of those horses. I am smitten.
My childhood neighbor had an Icelander and a Haflinger, and told me the Icelander was in his 30's. They roamed free in the Alpine pastures, and when I encountered them I would borrow a ride. Tölt is such a comfortable gait, especially bareback.

There was an instant bond between that horse and the boy. I couldn't see any signs of misbehaviour on the part of the horse towards the boy. Beautiful, tough, horses, i would love to own one.
A soft, clean bed, roof over my head, people that love me, and food on my table...count your blessings. There are many in this world that have absolutely nothing. A simple life like mine would be Heaven for so many.
Wow. This was a great documentary about the Icelandic horse and that lovely family. I used to work at a farm not far from that farm so nice to see the surroundings. I also ran a horse rental for one summer and did a bit of riding before that. But one thing I would love to do one day is to go on a few days horse riding tour.
How fantastic and awesome was this video. I wish I could see more videos on the family here on there way of life daily. If they had there own youtube channel would be awesome. Besides me I am sure many would join there channel to see there way of life in such a beautiful country as Iceland is. Do they have a channel or any more videos on them on youtube? I would like to know to see them. Please do some more videos on these beautiful horses. This is awesome I have shared it my animal groups I have on Facebook. Thanks for doing this it was fantastic to watch. I had to watch it twice thus far it is so good. I enjoy all your videos. Will be looking for more on these horses soon.
My imported Icelandic horse got to have 2 foals and died at 34 years old. She never got sick and never ran off. My Dad got to learn riding on her when he was 50 years old , here in The Netherlands and she never did anything to let him fall off. Her son was the leader of the herd and so so strong. You could put a grown bigger male on him easily ( my father is not that heavy, like 78kg ) and he would took off. This is the best breed since they stay calm in the head. And do anything for you, the farmer where they stayed said… this breed would keep going for you even when they are tired and want to rest. So as a horse owner you need to be wise and take good care of them so they don’t run themselves into a early death.. because they will do anything for you. Best breed same as Welsh cob section D also love that breed and owned that breed❤️
Did I hear 3000 people live on this Island LORD SIGN ME UP! Beautiful horses nice documentary 🐎 The nature has me sold its lovely there. Ha, look at that beautiful rainbow 🌈
Wonderful horses and people! I did feel a bit sad though to see the insensitive use of the bit and the rein. The reins are held in an unyielding fist and the horses are hauled around with too much pressure on the mouth. The reins always look in a straight line and the mouths are often gaping. This isn’t necessary. Horses can be ridden without bits because they are so sensitive to pressure, so if a bit is used the rider needs to become far more sensitive than this....
Amazing grace ! I am unaware that Iceland has volcanos and hot springs . Geraldton's inland places for 5 hundred miles is full of old volcano action from a time period past 1 thousand years . It has much mineral presents , from iron to any raw materials known to man . Mining of these elements is a big part of Geraldton's economy base . Thoroughbred Gallopers are also very important to Geraldton for employment
These horses reminds me of the small, sturdy Spanish horses where some have become the feral Mustang that roams in places like Montana but I am also reminded by the Icelandic horse of the American Morgan, just a little..
What a wonderful place, not least because of the absence of people. The children look like mine. here in the Uk we have 18m more people now than when I was born and we are full to bursting. Iceland looks very attractive in comparison.
Thank you so much Kelly! Maybe someday we’ll have our own streaming service 😉 no, that’s doubtful but one never knows how things develop. Important for us is free access for all.
