Jazz is something you can touch, you can feel. It is a state of matter. And it is always cool, beyond cool. It is ice cold. Real jazz is what happens when you turn matter into a sublime dance of atoms.
i love your statement, but matter IS movement ; ) a rock IS moving, if you look close enough to it, you'll see that every component of it is moving. but hey, you're totally right, Morphine really rocks that movement into something sublime
don't know what mark did on those dates, but he and I " hitched " from suncook, n.h. to the cape for thanksgiving at his parents house in November 1971. Unbelievably great man, unbelievably talented. One of the best people I ever knew and wish I could do it all over again with him. He showed me wonderful times and often reflected his creative side when we were together hanging out. Miss you my brother!!!!!!
Mark Sandman has been immortalized by the ones that really understand what he was about... I would love nothing greater than to be recognized by the few that truly know who I am.
At one point, (a few years back) I found myself making a connection with a young lady. However, once I played Morphine for her, and only comment was It sounds a little creepy. Well that was the end of the blooming relationship.
imexiled Fucking hell dude. Some people have no musical taste. Im not trying to be pretensious but I think it takes a certain person to appreciate this style of music. This music personally brings up a lot of good memories
God damn..........whoever posted this.....I wanna go to that bar in Cambridge that Morphine played at and have a glass of whiskey with you in Marks honour......Thank You!!!!
British version: On 6/6/66 I was a wee tot I didn't know shite On 7/7/77 Eleven years later still didn't know bollocks About 8/8/88 It's way too late for me to change On 9/9/99 I hope I'm sitting on the pub drinking Guinness singing oooooooooohhhhh Fish and Chips with Vinegar
you should be able to give more than just a "thumbs up", so we can show our compliments to the artist without having to stop working and write a comment! REALLY love this song. Sad that in Portugal there aren't many fans! everyone should listen to this song in school...or better, in university!
Great song brings back great memories of a hot young blond I taught how to drive stick in my M-3 best bass line and grind ever not only did she learn how to drive but she started a Morphine drip.
You wouldn't believe where I first heard this tune, and it was well before RUclips existed! ...It was back in the early 2k when I was playing "Capture the Flag" on "Unreal Tournament" on a map called "Burger Wars" or something! Haha... Basically, McDonald's vs Burger King, and I think it had that guy from King of the Hill in it doing a voice over and complaining about getting his order through to some dumb kid behind the counter! "I don't want ugghh, I want a Large Coffee, Large Fries snap!"
yeh same here i so want that song of that map i use to leave ut99 running in windowed just so i could listen to this song tis awesome looked for a while to see if i could get it the 1 from ut99 but cant find it :(
@zonadeculto Don't say that, I am portuguese, living in Oporto, attending college, and got some friends whose exquisite taste starts and ends with Morphine. This should be in every kids' manual: "Turn to page 9, paragraph 9, sentence 9. Start reading the lyrics for Morphine's "French Fries With Pepper"."
I'm a fan of the portugeses, even though I haven't heard a good portugese cover band yet... Anyways, French Fries with Pepper! Enjoy it while you can!!!!!!
Dunno about you but for me, four years back (pre-August 2012 for the record...) for me this was just a song about feeling as if I couldn't change even though I knew life was offering something better to me. Old habits ate me, hard. I knew I could have it better, but I also had a habit of punishing myself some time before that - "Oh, you failed this time? WELL TOO BAD, NOW YOU'LL FAIL HARDER!" (I have to vomit... Super hard...) ... You know what, let's NOT go back to 2011? I realize it's not quite long enough to get nostalgic over (that's reserved more for other years for me,) but still. What the heck. Look along in another 10-25 years and think "yeah, I'll not go back to those shit habits..."
Amazingly, that's not so far away now! :-o The only other two remaining that could have been done, would have been: 11-11-11-dy 11 and 12-12-12-dy 12 (or something like that, if you get what I mean!) ;-)
@paulcourlas Yes it was...and I did the same thing! He died one year before my father and ironically, my father was the one who called and told me he'd died. :(
On 6-6-66 I was little I didn't know shit and on 7-7-77 eleven years later still don't know any better by 8-8-88 it's way too late for me to change and by
Yesterday, 9/9 at 9 pm, I sat on the balcony drinking red wine and eating french fries with pepper, just because of this song. I salute you, Sandman.
Seba P yet anothe to join the 27 club. So unfair to him, and to all that care for him.

his death was truly tragic.

It’s 45 years to the day after 7/7/77. I will always love his music and I am glad to live in a town with a square named after him.
6-6-66 Im gonna drink some red wine and listen to some morphine. It aint any 9-9-99 but its the closest I can do before I die. I will be 71 years old
I've been waiting for this date for roughly 11 years, 1 month, and 1 day!

He hoped to drink red wine on the back porch the 9th September 1999 and he actually never did, as he died of a heart attack two months earlier... :(
I'm sure he did, just not on any back porch we're familiar with.
RIP Mark Sandman - damn, those guys were good...
