- this is a video shot by me on the way home from Iraq...a lot of the Marines on the plane started singin this song when they found out our flight attendants name was Caroline and i thought it would be funny to record it especially when someone started playin the actual song

Neil Diamond will never be forgotten, he’s an icon and I’ve loved his music for decades. In a world filled with so much division it’s does me good to see people get together and sing Sweet Caroline.
Lost somewhere back in the comments is one from the young lady the returning military guys were singing to. Her name is Caroline, and she expressed how that was one of the best experiences of her life. An awesome moment.

I have watched this countless times. Brings lots of smiles.
Can you imagine how they all felt when they were in the armed forces / marines huge planes to their respective destinations ? Fully armed with weapons, K9 dogs, and worry about whether they will make it back home alive. Yet, their minds are still focussed.
Once they are in commercial airlines, they are so happy and thankful to be going home.
If i see a marine, armed forces of US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Germany, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France....sitting in economy seats, I would gladly offer my business or 1st class seat to them. It's the least I can do for them.

I saw this video in my recommended and was curious that a bunch of people actually started singing on the plane. After clicking on it and noticing that they were military it should have been obvious. We do stuff like this all the time.

Caryl, here. About 20 yrs. Ago,I was on an ASA commuter flight from Dallas to Meridian, Ms. and a couple of young men, US Marines, who had just been discharged, and after we were airborne, Ray, the flight attendant, started us all singing the Marine Hymn in their honor. The plane was full so it was a real hoot. I don't think I've ever had so much fun on a flight. He opened the mike to the cockpit so the pilots could hear us. Thank you for your service young men, and thank you Ray, for a good time. You really know how to take care of your passengers!!

It's rare, but when a full plane of ppl start singing or clapping, it's super cool and fun.
Watching those Marines with a touch of brotherhood by singing together sure brought me back to my Army days. Saddly as it is, it really makes me sad as I really miss those good old days with my true brothers. But on the other end, watching those Marines signing, brought a big smile on my face.
I remember being on a freedom bird in 1970. We were singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane". The flight attendants (stews back then) treated us like royalty.
You guys are in my book royalty all the way thank you for your service
We sang that song coming back from Iraq after 16 months.
I think soldiers always sang on the way home, from every war. It was a reintroduction to the real world. That's what you called it. The jungle was just a long bad dream, where reality, at least compared to what you had seen in high schoolers, ceased to exist. So you called it that, in Capitol Letters, The Real World.
You disconnected. You couldn't, didn't dare, jinx yourself by feeling part of the world you left behind, the people you left behind. Songs were a permitted exception to that rule. In the grip of the music, you could speak of love and tenderness, of home and another day. In music the grim reaper couldn't hear your fear.
But there would forever be one last song, one last exhalation of past midnights, the notes coated with that sheen of fear and guilt, a song to exorcise young hearts. One last song before bittersweet partings, and strained reunions, with all the awkward Polaroids that documented it, and revealed nothing.

Michael Adams, that is great, after spending time in the Middle East, I'm so glad they are having a good time because it's a bunch of young kids who've probably seen a lot of things that kids this age should never have to see. My son was deployed to Afghanistan, and he got back from there 6 years ago, thankfully never went back, but he's not the same person he was before he went over there. OORAH from an Army mom.

I know this video was made many years ago HINT all the digital cameras. Oh and the lack of iPhones etc. No matter where you’ve heard this song it’s always played a role in all of our hearts. For me it’s a very emotional type video because of the fact I grew up in the time Neil Diamond produced this song. I thought it was very cute to see troops singing this on a plane coming back or going to war. Just seeing how people reacted to the sound of his music was good enough for me. WHAT A CLASSIC SONG!!!

Love it!! I have amazing memories of my freedom ride home after Gulf 1. For us it was Whitney Houston's rendition of the National anthem at Superbowl 25. No one on that plane would admit it, but there wasn't a dry eye on that plane. The other seminal moment was when the pilot announced "We have left Saudi air space". It was like we had been emancipated. Semper Fi my brothers. Welcome home.
I have loved this song since it first came out. I can’t believe people of all ages know this song.
Brings back memories. During the 60's at Camp Lejeune (Camp Geiger) we had an outdoor theater to show movies. Waiting for the sun to set various guys would get on the stage and sing, play a guitar or a harmonica or whatever. It was all impromptu fun and outrageous times. Once the movie started there guys shouted out funny comments throughout the movie run. Never saw so many funny and talented guys in my life. Great times with great guys. Semper Fi Marines.

Is for me an enormous honour to watch this video for all that you represent: fighting for freedom, risk your own lives for us.
I admire you for your courage, generosity and, in this video, for your sense of humor too. You sing really well.
But the most important is you were coming home from Iraq in order all people feel safe because Marines Corps takes care of us.

Hahahaha this video put a smile on my face. This is awesome!! I love it when people connect with others in a way that's not common. Shows a bit of creativity and sense of humor. On a side note: glad you guys made it back home safe :)
I love Marines! I feel so fortunate to have served in the Corps. It really does stay a part of you for the rest of your life. When I was a kid, two Marines (one retired and one in the reserves) came to my house December 23rd. someone had put us on the "Toys for tots" list. It was a hard year for my family. And they gave me "Jet Fire." The coolest transformer toy out of them all. I never forgot that. 10 years later I'm standing on top of the Reaper receiving my Eagle Globe and Anchor as a brand new United States Marine. 14 years later, I'm working with Toys for Tots. And I owe the Marine Corps my life. They saved me. Made me worth saving.
My grandkids all had this as their class song. Beautiful
People say, "see you in another 10 years" but I'm gonna' be listening to this daily
