Come on folks, this is a very difficult song to do live, it probably took them hours in the studio to get that version, but this song live is simply what it is, their best attempt to try and replicate the original version....Pedros vocals are still strong and Pat does an above decent job on the guitar, as his chords and Pedro's voice are still both very much in tune with each other........It is a great live version of a complex song and they pulled it off with only minimal flaws
Well, William Waters, I'm 7 years late to your party, but if you ever read this reply, I'm wondering: What makes you think this particular song longer than usual when recording the studio version? Is there something about it that you find more difficult than any other given Pat Metheny song from this era? If so, what? To be clear, I'm not questioning you at all, but I'm instead genuinely curious of your opinion. Metheny's guitar and Aznar's voice really meld together flawlessly on the studio version, in a way that's truly magical. I find the particular tone and harmonization exhibited on Slip Away doesn't seem to appear anywhere else on Letter From Home. What do you think? I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
@@HistoryEndsTonightI think the fact that they rarely played it live tells us that it was a " Made for studio" tune. To me, the studio drum/rhythm feel is different? I think it's a deceptively complex tune, personally...
Wow! Thank you for posting this live version. Pat, Lyle and the boys came thru Vancouver, I believe, before Montreal, and when they played here at the Queen E. Theatre, they played the tune pretty much as recorded on the CD, but this one shows Pat stretching out with some very tasty guitar. These guys and this tune have been huge in my musical life! Thanks for the posting. Pat was thru here a couple of weeks ago with his "Ochestrion". Saw it, heard it. It was so incredible. Pat forever!

Muchisimas gracias! esta vivo este tema jaja,, nadie lo comenta. gracias estaba a punto de quitarlo. In english: Thank you very much! Is alive this video lol! anybody comment this, i was nearly to remove this vid.. thank you!!!!!!!!!
Hot damn! I always wanted to hear this song live! It's one of my favourite songs! I thought I'd never hear it live! Thank you thank you thank you! Gracias! :P Was that concert released on DVD? xD I need it!!
Great to hear a rare live take of this, with the bonus of a new ending. This take has some problems, compared to the recording. Pedro's has difficulties with pitch at first. Worse, the kick drum overpowers the brushes, adding a hard downbeat that drowns out the steady shuffle that makes this a great driving song. And I miss the album cut's last 30 seconds of kids playing in the rain. Children's laughter used to be a recurring motif of PMG -- why has is vanished since he (and I) had kids?
@wheatridger great comment! I like to! i'm an avid collector of this, specially the very difficult songs to play live like this, or 5-5-7. Funny part of this are, the cameras were there, it way filmed,. so im dreaming some day we could see a video performance of this beautifull song. here in YT search for the montreal 1989 Pat Metheny Group,. Those kids laughter were missed, think this concert were only the 4th of this tour, the group were planning how to show this album to the audience
Excelente version: aunque debo decir que Pedro Aznar no es mi bajista favorito, sin el las canciones de Metheny no tendiran ese "condimento" acustioo vocal unico de Aznar...y como dicen en Argentina ...aguante Aznar ...Saludos
Hi Demoras! the dvd you mentioned, isn't available officially, is only a TV broadcast, the best version of quality like a oficcial dvd is one about 68 minutes, taken from an special home tape S-VHS.. search here in youtube pat metheny montreal 1989.. The best thing is not to buy it, only exchange.... These audio track has't been included in the TV broadcast unfortunately :S Thanks brother!
Not sure he flubbed, I think he came in earlier on his solo... he didnt miss a beat, sounded like he meant it. How else do you get good at improv? Take some risks, see what happens.

Pedro Aznar
The singer forget to enter after the solo lol even the pros can do these kind of errors
i love this piece but i don't think it's live performed...
.....it sounds live to me!
Too bad the solo doesnt work at all
aznar sing exactly like the album
I dont know why but its not a good grove in this version..love the tune and the studioversion is great but this does not work at all......
It's missing strumming acoustic, but lyle does nice fills
Where’s the visual?
