Now that I think about it this was a waste of a cool character to take out a goon villain. They should have had him at least fight one of the final guys that attack the soul king’s palace. He gave up a lot and got used for a lame enemy that didn’t have much impact on the story.

They made Shinji bad. At first appearance he looked really strong but in TYBW he was nerfed too much
They might fix it in cour 3. Iirc in the manga there was a moment off screen, where Shinji was able to extend his shikai to the point where Ywach's auswahlen was misdirected. If they show that on screen it could redeem him.
