I started watching your channel for your beautiful hand work which I still love very much. However I think I watch it now just as much for you. You are such a beautiful person inside and out. I have had a long hard sad week and watching your channel makes me feel like I’m sitting down with a dear friend and it has been a balm to my tired soul. Thank you very much for being such a kind gentle person. Can’t wait to see your amazing hexagon quilt finished.
That is such a sweet comment, thank you and I am so glad to be a comfort to you this week. I hope things start to improve for you and you manage to get some crafty time too ❤️❤️
I totally agree. Love Rachel as much as her sewing.
You amaze me Rachel! You’ve brought this beautiful quilt back to life! You deserve a medal! Great job!
The top of the quilt is beautiful , so pleased you rescued it. ❤❤
You have done the original maker very proud! My very first quilt was made in the late 80's. It was hand pieced and hand quilted and also a hexagon shape, although each block was a star instead of a flower. I made it for my square kitchen table. I still have it. This series of videos brought back many memories. I have made dozens upon dozens of quilts since but mostly by machine. I just recently started hand piecing and hand quilting again. So nice to see younger people interested in this nearly lost art. Thank you for sharing this treasure!
Fantastic, I have about 60 hexagons flowers and you have given me encouragement to finish. I just need about 17 more to go. Thank you, you are so sweet. Love your videos. Keep up the great work🪡🫶🏼🧵👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You should finish it, you’re basically 75% complete.
I love how you have kept the original quilt intact and added what was needed to finish it. It is looking so pretty and when you have finished the quilting I am sure it will be a work of art. Take care Rachel. xx
It's soooo adorable!! I LOVE that you made it hexie shaped, a hexie-hexie quilt!
After seeing Kate's (The Last Homely House) "Agnes epp quilt" I fell in love with the colour wash technique & sewed hundreds of 1 inch epp hexies. I don't have a design board & so fell out of love with the idea (squirrel brain !) but your 80s quilt top has spurred me on to be more diligent so that my unloved hexies don't end up being thrown away once I kick the bucket 😂 Merci beaucoup for your dedication ma belle xxxx
You’re doing a sterling job, this quilt looks incredible. I love the fact that the quilt itself is hexagon shaped. Neat idea!
Thanks so much! I love the hexagon shape too
How beautiful is that! Somewhere in the universe the original maker is breathing a delighted sigh of relief. 😊
I really hope so! ❤️
Quilt looks amazing and I love the little dog …. Soooo cute x
What a fantastic find, beautiful quilt 😊
what a labour of love! Your respect for the original work is so impressive.
I formed an unspoken connection with the previous maker ❤️
Beautiful
What a beautiful quilt! Your patience and creativity have certainly been used well in finishing the top. Now I am wondering how you are going to deal with the jagged edges as you put the backing and binding on…. Looking forward to seeing more.
Your puppy is soooo cute! 😍 I love the backing and binding you chose. Lovely! ❤
Love to listen to you talk. Your voice is so soothing and calm.
That quilt is quite the project!! I have to say it was so nice to see you hand quilting and without a hoop ! I do too and have never seen anyone else do it that way. Good job young lady!
And by the way love that soft pink dress on you. Your garden is lovely as well! Looking forward to seeing this one finished. Jean Colorado USA
Thank you Jean, I find it so much more comfortable to stitch without a hoop ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous! Clever idea to have it be a large hexagon. Can't wait to see it finished ❤
True vintage is over twenty years old antique is over 100 years old. The quilt looks really good you did a great job finishing the quilt top. I’m looking forward to seeing it once you’ve quilted it.
Oh thank you! Definitely vintage then ❤️
I've just finished a single bed sized EPP. This was a project about 25 years in the making! It took several nights removing the pieces. I'm so impressed with how it turned out.
Well done!! ❤️
Rachels its brilliant. Love how you have complimented the new with old. Never thought much if hexagons but the shape have grown on me. Cant wait to see then end result. :)
Hello my UK friend😊 I love your well done job on a very tricky project. I really do love it!
I love your channel Rachel. So calming and relaxing..... and such beautiful makes ❤
Glad you enjoy it! ❤️
Wonderful job on the quilt. It would be amazing if the person who started it could see how beautiful you made it.
I love Mary Ellen’s spray. ❤
I know that would be lovely, I feel like I know the original maker so well
You have done a marvelous job 🎉🎉
Keep up the good work

Beautiful quilt!
It looks great, don't really see were you repaired. You did a good job. The quilt looks awesome. 😊
This quilt is so beautiful ✨
I like how the flowers are attached by having background pieces stitched every other side to one hex flower. I’m doing similar quilt without papers though but can’t decide how to join them. I’d thought of that method as you have but hadn’t seen one to know how it looks! 😊
Very pretty - so much work. Can't wait to see it finished❤️❤️
Thank you! 😊
You are such a talented young woman. God bless.
Aww thank you for such a lovely comment
Hi Rachel! I love this quilt! I do have a tip..if you do your handstitch from bottom to top or left to right (away from you basically) rather than top to bottom or right to left you could get stitches straight rather than diagonal you should be able to tighten those up and get a stronger seam. I had the same problem and it took me awhile to get my epp to where the stitches didn't show on the front and much stronger. Close stitches help as well. I sew about 20 stitches per inch. (USA lol). I don't know the conversion. I hope this helps. I don't want you to think I am telling you what to do it's only a tip. I learned alot from Kate at the last homely house as well.😊 Happy Stitching 🪡🧵💕
Oh Rachel, it looks so beautiful!!! You did a great job, putting these puzzle pieces back together!! Girl, you need to get a full size iron when you get to pressing the whole top & backing fabrics!! 😂😂😂
I really do 🤣 i used to have one, for clothes, but it always leaked, so I threw it out once I started working from home, and the rest is history 🤣
What a beautiful save. It is gorgeous. ❤️🌺
This turned out beautiful. 😊
Thank you!!
Your quilt is beautiful and it's lovely that you rescued it
Gorgeous! It’s absolutely beautiful! 💕💕💕
👍
Love how you've saved that quilt.
Your Hexi quilt is just beautiful and I now how much work you put into it. I made a Hexi to fit a my queen size bed and I promised NOT to make another they take hours and hours to make. Your colors are great and I love the back color and your sewing is better than a sewing machine could do. It couldn't be better with your tiny stitches and it looks delicate. You have many years to enjoy it.
Your quilt is looking beautiful. I can't wait to see it when it is finished. Thank you, Rachel. ❤
So beautiful; you have done a great job!! Wonder if there is anything interesting on the original papers in the hexies….
Hello! It's very beautiful !
Think you very much !
I like to do the hexagones !
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this! I recently bought a machine-pieced quilt top from Ebay, but the colors are so different from the photo, I plan to finish it to sell. What a great find to get an EPP quilt! Can't wait to see it finished.
❤❤❤❤
Lovely; great idea to make it the shape of a hexi; thanks for sharing. Have used Best Press for years; -- it's a starch alternative; it doesn't get the fabric as stiff as a good starch, but it does get it firm enough to help get accurate cuts & severely reduces fraying of quality fabrics (I doubt anything will help low-quality fabrics) during cutting and handling. I have recently tried to make a DIY starch with distilled water and vodka (1:1 ratio) and it was lacking when compared to Best Press.
That's good to know! I bet it didn't smell as good as press best either 🤣 I have found it's really good at helping your blocks to lay flat is they are abit bumpy too
@@stitchwithrachel no it didn't smell as good -- though I usually use scent-free Best Press .... but it did taste better! 😂 Best Press, a hot iron & a clapper = blocks lie flat nicely.
Lovely ..you’ve inspired us all ❤
It’s beautiful
Looks amazing
Beautiful job “saving” the quilt. Could you share the size and type of needle you’re using in this video, please? It seems nice and long and sharp. Thank you for sharing.
Très beau, j'adore !
I buy Best Press by the gallon 😲👍
It's soooo good!!
Beautiful work, how was that thread to work with ?
It was really nice, I was surprised because it looks stiff, but it blends into the fabric really nicely and has no knots (yet)
Hi Rachel, that quilt is absolutely gorgeous. Can I ask you what size needle your using to quilt with.
Thank you Linda, is it a size 9 straw needle ❤️
Thank you
Where did you get your leather thimble?
It's from a company called clover, available in lots of places. I wear a size medium
Wow wow it lovely 🌹🌹😻😻💯🪡🧵😍💐🎉🎇🎆🎊🏴
I didn’t realise how beautiful the quilt was until you held it up outside, and I love the idea of keeping the overall hexagon shape. 🩷
Thank you, its hard to see the design of it when it's on the floor
It’s lovely.
