Your videos are always a reality check of what we need to be watching out for on our boats. I'm pleased to say that I have Blakes on my old Westerly and that I found your channel from searching on how to service them!

Can you please make a video on those composite plastic seacocks? I am in the process of replacing all of mine, saw a few youtube videos strongly suggesting DZR brass, almost bought a set, but now your video made me do a 180 and start looking up those black and blue plastic alternatives

Hi, I enjoy your interesting and informative videos. I couldn't see any markings on the fittings like CR or DZR aren't all genuine DZR marked and normally not plated? Do you detest genuine quality DZR fittings?

Thanks for the comments. Any DZR brass or brass in my honest view is never as reliable as bronze. Many of the issues are caused not by the valve but the skin fitting or hose tail fittings. There are loads of alternatives in bronze or Marlon out on the market that are very little difference in cost and are by far a better option.

Where should the nut be on a Blakes seacock in your opinion? I found images with the nut opposite the machine screw head and images with the nut at the far end of the machine screw.

ruclips.net/video/zIGhhenGCz8/видео.html should help you further! So basically they are a lock nut that should be to the underside of the cast flange!

tell me if I am wrong, but on the first valve,, the bit which cam off, looks like steel, which was attached to the valve, get a magnet on it, I did not see DZR on the valve. I would not use DZR in salt water, gunmetal or bronze would be better, no zinc, or would you like A4 stainless steel, I am only a plumber, and you are doing good for people, nobody knows every thing.
the colour of the fittings, look like brass, DZR is a bit redder colour, and there is normally a back to front capital D, up against a capital R on the fitting.
    " dezincification resistance."
" horses for courses " one thing is not good for every thing, as you know.

    Great and clear video!
And yes, the Blakes are top notch but also too expensive in my opinion. What’s your opinion about the TrueDesign ‘plastic’ thru hulls and valves?
    Best, Harry

Not a rant at all it's good information, as an example just imagine having a hull thickness of 2mm how safe would owners feel if it was corroded by 1mm. Those stupid cheap sea cocks are obviously a major weak link and sink boats.
