Fun fact about the heavy shotgun the soldier uses. Though Half-Life: Alyx it fired regular shotgun shells, the model has a rotating tau cannon attachment on it that even has animations in the game files. So TheParryGod was giving us a look at this secondary attack that the Wallhammer was supposed to have.
SPIKEWALL overall as a OTA unit is absolutely terrifying, just imagine hearing those heavy footsteps reaching you and you have nowhere to hide. If you somehow manage to hide from him he will smoke you with a Viscerator, and the best thing of all is how Parry gives attention to details. In the intro the CP units are nervous and anxious meanwhile SPIKEWALL is just taking it casually with absolutely no stress. This shows how not human are the OTA and how human are the CPs.
The mine they used is a Hopper that is seen being deployed using the Shield Scanner in HL2, now that I think about it maybe they managed to snatch a Shield Scanner deploying Hopper and the CPs detected weird activity at the start. Then the rebels used the captured scanner as a trap and took its hopper to set up a trap.
on the first guy's death it's so detailed that even the splinters from the wooden shelf that was hit first by the bullets before him acted like large wooden spikes that impaled him
Half-Life 2's art director Viktor Antonov (who was also Dishonored's art director, hence the similar looking architecture, vehicles, and machines) based City 17 off of his hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria. But he says it's not meant to be it specifically and is just supposed to represent all Eastern Europe in general. Because of names like Odessa, St. Olga, and the proximity to the Black Sea as well is some signs in Ukrainian and Moldovan, most players think Half-Life 2 speculate took place in Ukraine or the Ukraine and Moldovan border.
@@TiberiusTheLivingLegend I agree that the opening shot of City 17 from HL Alyx looks more like the Champs-Élysées than any Eastern European City. There were cities that looked like that but were absolutely destroyed in WWII.
I like that you can tell what the strategy was for the characters. Revolver girl doesn't run and tries to shoot him in the head, not realizing that it's not really a riot mask type of protection but instead an actual bullet proof helmet, and so since these headshots don't instantly kill our TH, she dies for her assumption. The guy with the SMG was busy repositioning and doesn't see that the girl's firing didn't do anything, and it's obvious that this rhino skin type of kevlar is something new to the rebels, but he still tries to shoot for the guy's neck having now assumed that most of the soldier is bulletproof. You see some of the shots hit the TH's head but do nothing except alert the TH that he's being shot at, so he goes for a kill shot to the chest, misses, approximates and fires again, getting a kill shot. The TH knows he has two rebels that he can't visibly see, so he tries to extract theme. The drone doesn't function due to the explosion, so he goes for a false arrest, coaxing them with the suggestion that if they come out and surrender, they'll just be detained. The shotgunner knows that the TH doesn't have visibility, so while his pistol friend tries to run after accidentally giving away his position, the TH only chases after that one rebel and doesn't account for the fact that he's probably about to be ambushed, he's just chasing for the kill. Shotgunner then gets the kill thanks to his friend running and essentially distracting the TH. I really like this short for a subtle but big reason. A lot of people today just assume that "good writing" means looking cool in a physically and tonally dark setting, but you can tell there's an actual writing intelligence being put behind these shorts. It's not just about looking cool, there is an actual small story going on. There is an actual way of thinking and fighting that these characters have. It's not just "big strong guy shoots everybody and goes home with a true American Hero Smirk," the rebels wanted to kill the patrolling CP in their part of the quarantine zone to probably have some more autonomy for a moment, so they laid out a trap. CP and a brand new type of TH come out to investigate, and they already suspect rebel play is afoot but doubt that it'd be anything fatal, they just have their suspicions that the alien friendly has been tampered with somehow. After the ambush succeeds, they go to sweep the room and make sure the CP are dead and then probably loot whatever remains before the TH wakes up. I love everything about this.
Spikewall we’re most likely designated as an upgrade to Wallhammer units. The Overwatch Commando branch are specialized in operating at unfriendly and hazardous environments, hence the oxygen tanks and hazmat suits for the more human Grunt units, and heavier armor for the higher ranking units. Wallhammer units are designed to eliminate human targets in a close quarters setting, often accompanied by other soldiers that provide cover for the WH to get close. Their obvious weaknesses were their inability to maintain or even perform active movement. (Running, jumping, quick turning) WH units were more of a fear factor to keep targets secluded in an area due to their imposing figure. Their wide arsenal allowed them to create a shield, blind enemies with a flash, deploy a stun stick, and charge their shotgun shots to blast through cover and kill targets. Only the shield and flash were implemented in the finished product due to the balancing required for VR players to enjoy the game. As seen in the Spikewall, it uses the charged shot frequently, and can maintain athletic movement due to its lighter bodypack and less equipment. Despite lacking the variety of the WH, it was still able to eliminate three targets before being killed in a setup. The SW never saw the shotgunner rebel, and blindly stepped into the room to execute the cowering target, being luckily shot in the eye and killed.

That thing was a shield scanner that hauls a hopper mine. The rebels must have captured it to manipulate it, however it must have alerted the combine, and because of that the rebel hideout was discovered.
@@n0x193 that's impossible since the animation takes place after the events of Anti-citizen, evidence of this is the the combine charger a older version of the prototype shotgunner being in the video.

if the shotgunners in half life 2 had these shotguns I would've lasted 5 minutes in Nova Prospekt

I can tell the spikewall's head was recreated from hl2 parry just modified the created head into a more realistic like head like hla's realistism
Yeah that dude has some god dam talent doing these type of things.
They even use the hitman patient zero ost.

Roaming around Half Life Alyx you also get to see mentions of Riga (Latvia) on news papers.
Hl2 takes place somewhere in france away from the Eiffel tower obviously

Its not a wallhammer because It has different armor, no shield and in The video its called spikewall.
Its armor was in the HLA concept art.
It's not Wallhammer it's "Spikewall" also it's a shield scanner.
I don't like how you called a combine hopper a proximity mine.
its called a shield scanner not a combat scanner
Also check his "Protectors" video

Actually they activated it for when the manhack detects something, its the shield scanner and not them
btw i just wanne say i think spikewall/the big shotgun dude is based off one of the wallhammer concept art
that guy with the shotgun and heavy armor is actually from "Anti-Citizens" he survived the explosion.

Spike wall
Or wallhammer
wallhammer because of their cool shield
