Thank you for this gem of an upload! I remember reading about this show and Mike's perfect 300 score from the old Weider Muscle Builder magazines. It's great to be able to see an actual footage of his performance. This was a historic feat because it was the first time a bodybuilder achieved a perfect score at a Mr Universe contest. If I remember correctly, Tom Platz and Carlos Rodriguez completed Team USA for this show. Carlos Rodriguez won his weight class on this contest while Tom Platz placed in his weight class.

I remember reading one of his articles about this contest. He had overindulged a salty seafood appetizer which bloated him. Zane came backstage and asked what happened because he lost all his cuts. He still won the contest, but think of how he would have looked if he had been even more defined.

I trained with him 4 times in the early nineties and he only charged me 20 bucks while he charged Japanese tourists $100 because he really liked me. I also bought 2 of his books which were 4 sale in gold's gym Venice
And he had what was, in my opinion, just about the perfect physique to match that perfect score. Hard, dense, grainy and awesomely symmetrical with ideal proportions. One of my favorite physiques ever.

His Physique in 78 was the 2nd best of alltime..only Sergio in 72 could top it. Mike had unparalleled symmetry. And in 79 he should have won the Olympia. One of the greatest physiques of alltime. And the greatest mind in the sports history.

@bigd7696 Nope. Very controversial Olympia in 2007 in which Victor looked better than Culter. Tighter waist, symmetry and proportions that made Culter look blocky and smooth on some areas. Read and research that Olympia carefully. Nasser (in 97) completely annihilated Dorian! From the front and side, he literally dwarfed Dorian silly. Dorian had a torn bicep and a tricep and distended obliques that made him look deformed and should of had points taken away. His arms were the worst arms by an Olympia winner. Can you imagine Arnold with torn arms? Nasser was flawless compared to Yates. Yates beating him in the back--and it end there.
Mentzer had an amazing physique BUT what he preached in "Heavy Duty" wasn't the same as "High Intensity Training: The Mike Mentzer Way". In "Heavy Duty" he did multiple exercises per bodypart and trained 3 times a week split routine whereas in "High Intensity Training: The Mike Mentzer Way" he did one or 2 exercises per bodypart and trained 2 times a week split routine. His original training was like Dorian Yates' "Blood & Guts".
Dating it from his birthdate would have been easier since they said he was 26. Also he seems to have grown a lot in his last 2 years, I wonder if high intensity exercise done that, or maybe just a new drug regime.

When national programs broadcast IFBB bodybuilding contests they consistently videoed posing routines from totally BS angles. The contestant was posing directly ahead yet these dickheads were videoing from every angle other than that. If Wieder was such a genius promoting bodybuilding why wasn't he giving these national sports broadcasters directions as to how they should place their cameras to best capture the competitor's physiques. Obviously Joe was more interested in the Benjamins.
@@sonyx4500 Yeah, you can tell. Arnold was taller (not bigger). Mike outweighed him even though he was shorter. Mike weighed in at 225lb while Arnold weighed in at a skinny 218lb at 6'1! Ridiculous! He had the worse legs ever by a Olympia winner! He could probably fit his legs through a pencil sharpener. Arnold got worse and worse after 74. He could never retain what he had after that contest. Worse in 75, and downright deformed and out of sync in 80!

These two lunkheads had back to back Olympias that were highly controversial (the most debated contests in history), and almost destroyed the integrity of the judging criteria
