One man's outtake is another man's crushing realization that he'll never ever come even remotely close to anything like the level of that first man's outtake.
His drum sound is spectacular 🙌🏻🙌🏻 This entire lesson series is spectacular too. Matt is such a spot on drummer. Love everything he puts out. Thank you Matt!!
I think I found the mistake. At 1:39 it looks like he accidentally hit his cymbal on the upstroke. Insane recovery, and entirely inaudible. This dudes the best
I find the part 0:32 to 0:42 to be a bit uncomfortable. The two loud snare hits at the beginning sound a bit sloppy/unintentional/improvised (I know that feeling from practicing stuff that's too difficult for me) and also those rolls on the hi hat and ride.
@@wickedhyperstyler nah those were just quarter note triplets he decided to toss in there for additional mind fuckery. QN triplets (esp at low tempo) are pretty hard without concentration.
@@TemporallyChallenged I "see" what you mean. The two, preceding strokes on the hats fit to your suggestion. Still doesn't sound comfortable or fitting.
Holy shit matt, with that hairstyle you totally look like a different person, looking good my man, dont change that style it suits you perfectly. looking alpha af :D
They both have an amazing grasp on Polymeters, Metric Modulations, Odd Time Signatures and Odd Groupings. They also both play spotless clean, pristinely clearly and with wide dynamic range. The two greatest modern prog drummers, dare I say?
I'm gonna pull at straws and see if anyone agrees. Snare bang on 0:30 a tad late? Flow feels a bit interrupted/pocket lost at 0:39? again at 0:49 but only the teeniest teeniest tiniest bit?. Re-entry from fill at 1:00 minute feels a bit weird? Pre-snare at 2:04 feels off?. 2:19, weird regroup? I think I'm just so bad at feeling 9 that I think every correction/reentry sounds off. Can't wait for the comments to rip my ass to shreds does anyone agree with any of this? Wish Matt would tell us what's wrong.
(NOT a musician btw) its tough, alot of the switchups 'feel' off to me but im sure its because i dont have the ear for the quick transitions. but going back and re-listening to the parts you mentioned while 'looking' for them, i definitely noticed what you were bringing up. now whether that is 'intended' or not is waaaay above my head, but you are not crazy, if i pay enough attention i can hear what you are hearing. this shit is insane. take care
0:39 0:49 are the only two as far as i can tell in my opinion that don’t feel purposeful, there’s a lot of notes that feel weird because they are flammed with a cymbal or just offset by a 32nd note
Amazing sound,so dry and powerfull with short sustain .For me this is the best sound from Matt.....and that filling omg.....what kind mics and interface Matt use on this record
One man's outtake is another man's crushing realization that he'll never ever come even remotely close to anything like the level of that first man's outtake.
Ah I see why it’s an outtake. That extra 32nd ghost note at measure 146 ruined it! Haha unreal.
Matt is more jacked up every time I see him. His single strokes are so clean that it sounds like they are quantized.
this an outtake? did the backing track make a mistake or something?
nah he clearly hit a cymbal at 1:38 when he wasn't supposed to. ruined everything.
Literally loled. Thanks.
He plays like “music isn’t an art over time, it’s the conversation with the time”. Huge musician.
Really love hearing him play to electronic music like this. Cool moog bass synth feel. Definitely some dark energy brewing
With this level of complexity it takes a keen ear to even hear a mistake.
that ride cymbal looks imposingly beautiful...
Meinl Byzance 22” Vintage Pure Ride
Matt! if you're reading this,
you are by far the best drummer in the world i've ever seen & heard
Look for Eliott Hoffman then :')
Matt now is maybe as good as him

his face kinda proves your point.

@@wickedhyperstyler intentionally sloppy sounding as he’s playing a flam between the hi hat and snare to give that sound
1:45 that's the Ectogenesis groove!
This dude is a modern great. Absolutely obsessed and marinated in the soup.
Wow, with a little more practice, he could become as good as Lars Ulrich!
He is already as good as Lars Ulrich
It's a joke lol
Kéziah Leclercq this is a long running joke
Lol
However Matt Garstka's bank account it's a joke compare to Lars, ironic...
Really dig that snare sound
Súper Matt🥁👍🇲🇽🙏
dude! superb performance!!! perfect in every sense
this man literally owns the toughest pocket god ever bestowed upon a drummer
Matt Garstka's humility > Matt Garstka's face of concentration > Matt Garstka's drumming
More please, sir, more. Thank you.
Best sounding snare
I need to buy this masterclass!!
It is worth every penny. Just the loops themselves are immense fun.
Holy shit matt, with that hairstyle you totally look like a different person, looking good my man, dont change that style it suits you perfectly. looking alpha af :D
Loving the Gavin Harrison vibes!

Love from parallel time❤
Moongel on his hair
It's so full of oil the US will undermine it's democratically elected government and start a proxy war.
Cool stuff man!!
I had to watch it twice, wwwwhhhhaaatttt, YES!
He is buffed now.

I heard all of that too so I think you're spot on

This man the man
That ride sound though
Didn't know Ricky gervais could groove like that, sick!
Increíble...
Just wow
cool stuff!!
Ok we get it you're insanely good at drums 😁😎🤘😅😂
Best hair in the game
Insane
Excellent Matt, i have your class :D
I love that tiny stack! What is it?
looks like a 10 inch byzance dual splash what its stacked on I couldn't say
Might be 2 splash cymbals. Currently have 2 splash cymbals as a stack on my set up and it sounds similar to what he has.
I believe it is a tiny stack
Yes, the top cymbal is a Meinl Byzance 10” Dual Splash the bottom cymbal I am not sure about.
beauty absolut
Buff Matt best Matt
It's so controlled. I have to make believe this is how i'm playing.
Calculated.
Calculated.
Calculated.
anyone know what the little crash stack right next to his hats are?
Dude. Call Tosin to collab with Hamasyan. It's gonna be awesome.
This proofs you can see a brain at work without a scan
that's great
"mind spun" drum playtrough 🙏
Mad Garstka
I HAVE to see you play in person! Please come closer to the southeastern states! Mississippi, for example.
is it a Dunnett Titanium snare drum?
What’s this little fire stack??
Nasty!!!
I think you meant "alternate take".
It almost a seems shallow to criticize a mistake given the material presented.
which is that snare? T_T
I swear an Agent from the Matrix it’s going to show up at any moment. Watch
Brasil
Parabéns, bobão.
The human metronome
Did anyone else come here expecting a laugh but cried instead? 😅
Like 😍
I didn’t know Connor McGregor could play drums.
Matt Garstka:
My brain: ah sheeeeit here we go again
Didnt know Ricky Gervais played the drums
Clearly this isn't Matt as you can notice that there are not enough (or any) moongels on any of his toms
deeeep pocket
Have you ever seen the GHOSTbusters film?
Can you play without ghost notes?🤣🤣🤣
That would ruin his career
😂😂😂
It's like asking whether you can prepare a meal without cuisine.
😂😹🙏🍆🍟🍔❤
Esa cabellera ya no da mas de gel jajajajaj
he looked too uncomfortable
3rd
He has the nerve to call this an outtake...
notice me pls
First
Definitely an outtake. Horrible playing. Keep practicing Matt!
Ummm... stay humble? Lol.
Meh 😒
Yeah, it might be "meh" to someone whose never sat on a kit and tried to replicate this. This is like insanely hard even after 20 years of playing.
Unless you're totally joking, which you might be.
Aren't outtakes to include screwing up? CLICK BAIT! haha!
1:39 he taps the top cymbal by accident
