Supposed To Be quickly rocketed to one of my all time favorite Icon songs. I'd say it's in my top 5 if not my top 3. Hearing what went into creating it made me appreciate it that much more!
Dear Ariel, We have likely never spoken, but I feel a certain commeradery with you after listening to your music for a decade. Recently in my own life I have found, my writing, my studies, my actions, ..etc nothing was good enough for me. I could only see the flaws. I hit some breaking points. Then I realized it. Perfectionism. That trait that brings artists pain and suffering beyond belief, it was what was harming me. I have decided to perform an experiment where I let go of perfectionism and see if mental health and ability improves and for now at least I have found it greatly does. See here's the kicker: I'm a theological pelagian, that means I believe perfection is actually possible (although not likely) for humans. Yet I've found that my doctrinal beliefs don't help me do better. Thus, in order to find progress in all areas, I have moved the time table for improvement further out and the steps split into gradual improvements, whether that be in abilities, projects, work, actions, whatever. It is yielding good fruit so far in my opinion. Anyways, I'm not telling you how to live your life or anything. If you are able to do the perfectionist thing, and it isnt hurting your mental health, than I have no doubt you'll be great. But if you're more like me than I would advise you, go easy on yourself, it takes time to achieve perfection, if that. Shalom sister, YNH

Honestly this is probably one of the songs that I relate most with. For me it's more of my eating disorder (anorexia) that has become a huge part of who I believe myself to be. That's why I jump back and forth so much between recovery and relapse, because I can barely remember my life without it, and I just don't know who I would be without that toxic part of me.
for me this song illustrates my fear of getting better, trying to figure out what i am, what i really feel and what is my illness. i'm sure in a week i'll latch onto another lyric but right now it's mostly my anthem for my process as it is right now, stuck in this anxiety of letting my depression go and figuring out who i really am or who i should be. so clearly i am binge listening to get well and iodine too :P
"Supposed to Be" is tied with Happy Hurts for my favorite song by you guys. I connected so much with each of those songs, and to hear what went into Supposed to Be it makes me appreciate it so much more! Keep up the hard work because it definitely paid off!

WOW! I really really loved this video! As a writer I kind of know what it feels like... it was so interesting to hear of someone else's creative process! By the way, I really like supposed to be and find it very interesting, despite the fact that I don't quite relate with the whole asking-someone-else-how-to-get-better-and-who-to-be thing (I strongly belive that you are the only one who can make yourself better), but if I interpretate it in a different way I just love it (both the lyrics and the music). Between Here We Are, You Were Wrong (at the beginning it was so weird and so powerfull to hear YOU sayng "I shoot to kill") and Supposed to Be at the beginning Supposed to Be was the one that I loved the most, but right now I really wouldn't know, I love them all so much.
