His shadow came in....RM did Persona, Suga did Shadow and J Hope did EGO. There's everything it takes to make a whole person in psychology. They are mapping a person aka themselves 💜
nods
This is one of my fave Suga solos. He gets fkn real about the downsides of being a huge celebrity. Part of him craves it, part of him feels the fear of “the higher they are, the harder they fall”
Now please react to the full version of this song 😭 the lyricism on this one is top notch! This is basically him embracing his own shadows that other people are afraid of doing, cause in order to love ourselves we must embrace all the good and bad within us (our persona, shadow, and ego).
To understand this more from a psychological standpoint which is one of the points of this album, you really need to react to the map of the soul album in order. And an explanation video is a must!
Just an FYI peachy, SHADOW IS SUCH A MASTERPIECE buttt why i tell you this is not even the full song.. theres an extended/full version on spotify. You gotta watch the live performance, yoongi performed the FULL version of this masterpiece at Map of the soul ON:E LIVE CONCERT in 2020 (it was for 2 days, so he performed it twice) HE KILLED IT!!! I can't explain how much of obsessed i still am to this song till THIS day😭yoongi's emotion, his lyrics, his singing.. it really gets me every time😭
the people in the dark hoods are his shadows, the negative, or undesireable, parts of himself that he tries to surpress, but his shadows keep catching up with him and pull him down. Then the part where the song changes, his alter ego, or shadow self, comes out and tells him that he is a part of himself and cannot be ignored, that they are one and the same, and until he accepts it, he will have this inner struggle. Same with his trilogy and Yoongi having an inner struggle with both sides of himself, and in the end, the newer self that has grown and changed, ends up killing off the older self. And he ends up facing his demons, or shadows.
Yoongi songs require a lot of rewatch because its heavy on multiple levels, lyrics wise some of the topics he does are so heavy then musically he potrays a particular topic musically so well you know he's a producer at heart and the visualisation of concepts at times you dont know what you are seeing.
As a psychology student, the MAP OF THE SOUL albums are my faves.
MOTS albums are based in Murray Stein's 'Jung's Map Of The Soul: An Introduction'. This book adresses Carl Jung's archetypes theory, were he says that the personality are form from 4 archetypes (actually are 12 archetypes but let's keep it simple and just focus on the major Jungian archetypes): Persona, Shadow, Ego, Anima/Animus.
In this case, 'Shadow' represents all that negative part of our personality that hide from the world, all that things that each one possess, but don't want to recognize and repress. Here, Yoongi are comfronting and accepting their shadow to have a personal growth, that's why in the chorus of the last part of the song says: "You are me, I'm you, now do you know", it's his shadow talking to him, cuz although he want to repress that dark side, in the end, that is also part of what he is, he can't just delete it or ignoring its existence.
This topic it's super extense, complex and very confussing, but I tried the best I can do to resume it in simple words. I hope all our babies armys can comprehend at least a bit of the general idea of the concept used by the tannies in this two wonderful albums.
I love your videos Peachy💜
The brighter the lights, the darker the shadows... the last part, when he appears in the middle of the audience (it's his shadows talking) always gives me goosebumps...
nods
They decided to combine the different Jungian philosophies Persona, and Shadow into one album and Shadow speaks to their loneliness at the top - the brighter the spotlight the larger the shadow -representing the fears of losing everything … think about what happened to YOONGI recently - his fame was the reason those shadows tried to tear him down. In the beginning he’s moving forward towards those goals and midway he is going backwards away from the spotlight - when this came out ARMY was so blown away and touched - BTS always sharing their truths with us 💜
yeah
Yoongi's lycris are soo deep & thought provoking ALWAYS.. there're def. so much better explanations of this song but if i have to explain the sentiment behind it in the most simple words, it'd be "the brighter the light, the bigger the SHADOW"
Thisssss was the MV that made Yoongi my second bias (after Jimin)!!! I adore it so much!
The "yeah, hmm" with the head movement and the finger on his lips... is so attractive. I was so glad you pointed it out 🥰 The "pause" bit where all the figures that were reaching for him stop in mid-air, also? His huff just before they pull him down? And the thing he does where he pulls the corner of his upper lip up to show his teeth while rapping???
Not to mention of course the lyrics and the message in this song, which shook me to my core when it came out. All the faceless people (which, even if ARMYs do that in concerts - and everyone felt very guilty in the fandom at the time, because of that imagery - I don't think are ARMYs! I think they're the general public/media constantly watching and waiting for BTS to make mistakes) holding cameras turned towards him, suffocating and menacing. The melody change on the second half of the song where everything got scarier. Ugh it's all so good.
This MV is a masterpiece and Yoongi is so hot and talented. Thank you so much for your reaction, Peachy!!
SUGA had a panic attack (social anxiety?) in Japan (long time ago ), before a concert. so bad he couldn't perform 😞
He had many shadows (fear, depression, anxiety,...,anger,) but he said that he is doing much better these days 😊
The full song is more emotional and deep. ❤❤❤
I just love his lyrics maaaaan
Suga es muy bueno súper profesional sus conciertos fueron la prueba lo admiro y espero y al resto también 💜
peachy it's ok to rewatch. we understand and we love it
no need to apologize. army appreciate real reactions, and when ppl take the time to work through lyrics and visuals. this video is definitely a shock to the system if you aren't prepared, and your interpretation is great
BTS and their Easter Eggs are so cool.
If you listen to the intros of their first three mini albums, the school trilogy, the rapline actually sampled those for the intro/interlude/outro on MOTS7.
That is why you had ORUL82! coming up on screen on this m/v. AMAZING. 7 coming in to play AGAIN.💜
yes, that's so cool!
yep
This is my 1st BTS song I ever heard the day of its release early 2020. I've never looked back. Now ARMY for life.
Really have been enjoying your reactions. You're the only new BTS reactor that I'm watching now consistently.
Thank you Peachy.
Also, try Bookish Theories if you want to really know how deep the MV goes.
Yes, I really like her (Bookish Theories) videos !
Song on album is 1 minute longer, and the verse that isn't here is what people were talking about No more dream connection.
Song is called Shadow mamy people will say he talks with his shadow here.... Hmm
There is another version of the song when he talks about he got all he wants big house... next please check the lyrics version and the live peformace it's sounds so good Suga is a lyrical genius💜🎵
You need to watch explanation of Persona MV to understand the whole trilogy of Persona , Shadow, and EGO .. there is an explanation of Shadow and ego too (plz watch DKDKTV explanation of Persona and shadow)
yes pls
ARMY's discussions at the time about the red stuff around the doors were that it was based on Anish Kapoor's exhibition piece Svayambh!
It sparked some really interesting discussions about what that art piece represented and how it could link to the imagery created in this song and MV!
the music video is missing one verse, check out the audio version and translated lyrics
As a Baby Army, Bookish Theories (youtube channel) made MV explanation videos that really helped me understand what was going on. Highly recommend.
Love this! This is a short version.
Now you have to react to Snooze!! Agust D and Woosung!💜❤️

If you saw Road to D-day you probably heard Snooze…
And you have a fantastic channel!
He’s talked about his ambition becoming too much and something he needs to rein in. I think he (and the others) really struggled when they started exploding. He mentioned crying after the first billboard awards and not from happiness, from fear. They were kind of flying blind - no one in K-pop had done what they were doing. Hell, they didn’t even really have anyone to guide them within the sphere of K-pop. It’s why he takes wanting to teach and support his donsaengs so seriously - he wants to share his knowledge and be the sunbae BTS didn’t have.
yeah
very good reaction and analysis
8:23 who would skip it?? 🤷🏻♀️💜 But just in case someone was considering that, here’s 3 reasons why you shouldn’t - 1. This song is an absolute masterpiece. So raw and real, as expected by Yoongi, plus it’s a banger. 2. Peachy rewatching ANY BTS song is a great time. You see things you may have missed the first time and Peachy giving her analysis of the song is always fantastic. 3. IT’S YOONGI!!!💜💜💜
it’a not the past, it’s yoongi vs the shadow side of him, like in the end here the shadow side is basically saying yoongi will never get rid of him, but yeah if you actually saw the entire song it would help to understand, the music video is missing a part of it
A few years ago, people immediately understood that the hooded figures monitoring him in the crowd-emotionless, holding their phones up to capture his smallest slip-ups, the stage lights forming a cage around him- formed a nightmarish image. I don't know how to feel abt that being seen as the normal, average representation of fans :((
they are haters not fans
I think watching analysis of their album themes would help you understand it better.
Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. So glad u finally heard this one. It's so hard. Took me a while to like it. He is so passionate. Geez. This one stunned us. Many cried. It was really hard to hear him say what he said. But I am glad in the end there is hope. Hope u watch all 3 songs back to back Persona, Shadow and Ego. They are meant to be heard together. =0) This is Suga as Agust D. to me did u notice? Persona is RMs song. Ego is JHope's song. Shadow as u have learned is Suga's solo. Ppl in black are the haters. They always represent that. The twitch up is his shadow talking. On 1st listen i remember i was so shocked and hurt. Gosh. This one was a grower for me. Now i love it. Stay safe. -NY USA 2019 Army 💜

This is a brilliant MV. Duality of being an idol & having the realization that being an idol doesn’t make all the shadows of your soul disappear. You still have fears - the knowing you won’t be on top forever and then what? That bad shit happens to you despite fame and money. This MV is based on Jung’s psychology & philosophy of how one becomes a sane person, and how we integrate the pieces of yourself into one whole.

Also, just so you know, the comeback trailer for Shadow does not include the full song! It is a shortened version missing the second verse.

Just to let you know, this is not the full song, the full version is on the album 💜

They tend to do that with the intro/interlude/outro songs and tbh I find it really annoying. Like, we tell people to listen to a specific song and they only hear half of it... 🤦 So yeah, whenever you see those terms in the MV version, now you know. 😅
It would be nice if you saw more videos about the symbolism of this song, as well as persona and ego :)

Can't believe it's over 5 years ago. FYI: All the members have 3 sets of solo songs within their group albums btw. So you're looking at a total of 21 masterpieces amongst other masterpieces. This isn't even part of their individual projects. These talented & versatile Artists simply create and give. Perfect gift of introspective sometimes and a beautiful gift for ARMY always. 😭💜🎶
nobody tell her before she react to it?
Can you do an ENHYPEN reaction pls❤ I don't know maybe The 2024 introduction guide to ENHYPEN You'll not regret it... Really💅
Hi! I really enjoyed your content, and I believe we can make the thumbnails even better. I create thumbnails for reaction channels. If you're interested, I'd be happy to work with you!
This song is actually longer than this video, I recommend listening to the full version. And watch Yoongi's live performance of this song)
