I totally understand your disappointment... I enjoy doing things too. I know the beach is an attraction and you have Little Man and school to consider but have you ever thought about going at a different time of year? We went to Athens for Christmas one year and it was so much more enjoyable than during the height of summer (can you tell I'm not really a beach person? LOL) Glad you made it home safe and sound.
Because the flight is so brutal for me, I need to give myself a nice long time to recover before hopping back on to go home, so the shorter breaks would never work for me :/ I’ve been thinking that at least when little man is in college, I can go with him in may or whenever I want alone lol- but also since Brett works on a public school schedule it’s a giant pain in the ass 😔

My son was born in Frankfurt when my husband was stationed in Germany. He was born in 1988. I loved Germany. We were going to go back but my hubby passed away 4/30/21 of cancer. Maybe in the future I could take my son.
We have those Chinese stores in Portugal and in Spain and we call him the Chinese store. There’s one here in Lynn Massachusetts but don’t have car so sucks
I’m the same kind of traveler as you. When I’m in italy I keep everyone active the entire time. Lol I’m sure it’s difficult for little man with no kids his age there.
It is an issue that you are trying to take care of household problems during your vacation. Try to get the contractors to run on your time, not theirs. If you cannot come before X or after Y, maybe tomorrow. You have to decide ahead of time what your priority is. And maybe you should be deciding the day's plans the night before, not at breakfast or brunch. Some days you did not decide what you wanted to do until time for dinner.
Yeah, it just basically stays by our house and our neighbor’s. We bought a crap ton of food and gave it to our neighbor and asked if she’d take care of it and she said, “no problem, it always sleeps here anyway” lol
