I don’t know about you guys, but I still get goose bumps every time I watch Slash climb on top of Axl’s piano and deliver the most spine tingling, face melting outro in music history.
I agree. I give him his loving due, but Eddie appeared less-drugs and more a mechanic inventing a new way of travel than Slash. Perhaps if no heart damage and O.D.'s, he would give EVH a run for his money. Such is life and bands drugging and splitting.
The “best” usually aren’t the most technical IMO. Page, Dime, SRV, Gilmore, Beck, Clapton, Hendrix, Slash knew how to wring pure emotion from their instruments. Math metal shreds can get real boring real quick.
@@aenima1 I agree except for the math metal. I think it’s awesome, especially live. Everything can get boring in excess. I’ll tell you this I’ve been to hundreds of shows/ concerts and the most fun for me is rock to metal. Have you ever been to a rap concert? That’s the worst, with 20 dudes dancing around on stage all with mics yelling Yo on every bar. Now that’s boring not to mention synthetic music ( unless they use a live band like the roots). I love seeing how those metal drummers can rip. Plus you get to see groups of dudes almost fighting in the mosh pit. I grew out of the screaming stuff, so now I listen to instrumentals.
The song is based on a short story about a rock star grieving over the death of his girlfriend or wife who committed suicide.. the short story was called Without You . And the original version was about 25 minutes long x
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and slash is one of the greatest guitarists in rock history. Still get emotional and goosebumps every time I hear it. Great reaction as always.🔥🔥
I can relate so much to this song. Lost my wife of 23 years Dec. 5th three years ago. Being a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and my wife making sure I stayed clean and sober my world came crashing down. But stayed clean cause I made a promise to her to never go back to that life. It has been a hard almost three years and still wake at night sometimes looking for her to be there to be reminded she will never be there again
This is the second song in the "Trilogy" by GnR, proper viewing order is "Don't Cry", "November Rain" and "Estranged", all three songs are great... (not that there are many bad GnR songs, if any)
when I met my future wife I was quite a fan of Guns n Roses and especially of the talent of Slash I introduced this song to my wife who became her favorite song a year before our wedding I practiced (in secret) practically every day on the guitar on this song, when my father-in-law and my wife wanted to dance the first dance at the wedding I surprise everyone to play November Rain (luckily I don't sing), it's one of the rare times I saw my wife cry with joy, except during the births of our children. November Rain is not just a masterclass but also unforgettable memories for my wife and I.
This song (along with other GNR songs "Don't Cry" and "Estranged") were allegedly inspired by a short story called "Without You" by Del James, although I read that story and only see the faintest resemblance. More generally, I feel the song is about how every beginning contains an ending. When you have a wedding, no matter how young you are, you are having a funeral at the same time, because one day you WILL be parted (whether by a literal funeral when one of you dies, or just because the relationship ends). My wife and I started seeing each other around the time this song was released, and I remember thinking about that at the time and being depressed that it would inevitably end that way. We're still together and married almost thirty years. But we won't always be. Nothing lasts forever, not even cold November rain.
“Patience” “don’t cry” and “sweet child o mine” are just a few really good one you should check out. Thanks for helping me get through the mess that has been 2020 and getting my mind off all the stressful stuff.
So glad you you opened up the G~N~R rabbit hole, they were huge during my high school years...one of those bands that transcended all cultures bc they were so good. Their music videos on MTV were very cinematic, almost like a mini movie. The guitarist you were admiring is Slash.🎸
It's a crazy place, this world. Axel and his friends bared their souls over the death of a girl. Having been there and buried the love of my life I get it and hurt big time. Thanks for sharing your fresh take on the song.
Considered one of the best music videos of all time originally meant to be over 20 minutes long but trimmed back to under 9 minutes. Slash is up there with the likes of Hendrix, Clapton & more as the greatest guitarists ever. Guns n roses cover of Sympathy For The Devil by the Rolling Stones is a masterpiece.
I know your super backed up, but you should react to “one” by Metallica. The song is about a man that goes off to war and gets blown up by a land mine and he can’t walk, talk, speak, hear or see. All he can do is think. He doesn’t know what time is or anything. It’s a great song. Probably one of the best metal songs of all time. Like you should put it on the list definitely. Love your reactions btw!
The first time I saw this video was as a child. My brother lived for GNRS and I idolized him. I had a strange attraction to Slash even as a young girl. This video is epic! They don't make music videos like this any more.
This song is metaphorical for trying to hold on to unrequited love , she didnt feel the same anymore and he is trying to hold on to her and trying to change her mind she has been hurt disappointed before and she is scare its going to happen again so she is holding back / he obviously loves her and would do anything to salvage the relationship though he knows he already lost her ! I hope this helps 🙏🏼 ,
Also this song is part of a trilogy (mini story ) its starts with Dont cry, November rain and estranged , maybe that would give you more insight to the story , very deep .
I could be wrong but there’s a mirror in the coffin and think that’s to do with head trauma. The mirror is there to reflect the good side of the head so it looks like a whole face for an open coffin. I’m sure somebody could explain it better
That was done for dramatic effect, because in real life, most morticians could do a restoration of the decedent’s features to where a mirror in the casket(not coffin, there’s a difference. Look them both up. Casket vs. coffin, that is) would not be necessary.
This song, and video, never fails to affect me. Jayy, you have to react to "Still Loving You" by the Scorpions. The lead singer's voice will blow you away.
I watched Guns n Roses in 1992 live. They cancelled their first gig. Then was two hours late for their rearranged gig as they was shopping in Paris wtf haha ! Anyways, they sang this ... slash was amazing ! Making memories !
Maruzo I saw them in concert in the late 80's was awesome but I will never forget when Axl's long sleeved orange mesh shirt got caught in the mic stand and you could see him yanking on it was hilarious they took a intermission afterwards and when they came back he had a different shirt on also a fun fact the singer Fergie named her son Axl after him
To this day i believe this is the greatest rock song of all time. A true master piece. I was 10 yrs old when this song came out. And im 40 now. I still listen to it .

"The guitar player was sexy, had to say that." Girl it's okay! I'm 22 and I grew up with this music and loving this era of music because of my parents. Slash has literally been one of the loves of my life since I was two years old. Lol. Loved your reaction. You really paid close attention to the song and story. ❤
Slash has to be one of my favorite guitarists. His solo in Estranged has to be my favorite. Axl just had one of those voices. I’ve never heard anyone compare to him.🥰
Don't try to understand, recognize... Just listen, and cry if you feel so... I'm so called, a "straight, tuff guy". But everytime I'm listening to this song home alone, I get tears in my eyes... That's ok!!!
To me this song and video is a metaphor for the beginning and the ending of a love between two people. The wedding and happy times in the sunshine represented the early stages of being in love and how great that makes you feel. Then since the lyrics say “ nothing last forever, even a cold November Rain “ ... the darkening skies and falling rain that started during those happy times , followed by her death and funeral, then represents the falling out of love by at least one of the two , and then the death of that love as he now has to live with the pain of his lost love and try to go on alone. It’s a perfect metaphor for my once great love story and then sad ending of my love and marriage at least. Music can have different meanings to everyone

Me, too. :O
Amazing Solo

It's a great solo alright, but Slash's solo in Sweet Child o' Mine is his greatest and most iconic imo 👌

Yep same here
i think "estranged" was his best solo
The outro solo kills...
Slash wasn’t the most technical guitarist but he was the master at making his guitar sing. One of my favorite guitarist

Slash's rift towards the end is one of the best ever in Rock. It had this medieval sound, he shredded the shit out of that Gibson Les Paul!
