  • I hope you find some fossils along the Jurassic Coast-at low tide.Have a look at some of the fossils you can find along the Jurassic Coast in this video. The best tools are your eyes when finding fossils. This video of some great fossil finds, was made during a very a cold January day. The Jurassic Coast really does have some stunning fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs the best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfossilwalks.com There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassiccoast#fossilhunter#fossilhunting#ammonite

Great video Brandon, so many great finds! Thanks so much for gifting those dump finds, the coin and DofE badge in particular are amazing! I think the coin is a Norwegian 5 Öre coin and is really quite old though I need to do some more research! 👏

Thanks 🙏 very much Tom for your comments. I saw another comment that suggested it was a Norwegian coin 🪙. You have pointed it out to me as well that it might be really old as well, thanks for researching it all. Amazing isn’t it how did that get into the beach at Lyme Regis. It was you who first suggested the coin 🪙 might be Norwegian to me, I find these curiosities ever so interesting.

In the Winter time when it’s quieter here it’s especially beautiful. Very few people frequent the beaches here in the winter storms. It can get a bit too busy here, right in the middle of summer - July / August!

Thanks 🙏 I like the scoured out pockets on the beach for the curiosities. That’s the great place to find them packed full of iron pyrite a mineral and metal bits . The metal detectors don’t work it seems as there is so much metal junk on the beach at low tide !

There is a chap called @Tomfinds he is on Instagram and has had a comment on this post . He was saying a metal detector would go all over the place and there would be no clear register of a find with so many metals on the beach . I think as a metal detector himself he would be interesting for you to talk too.

    • @LymeRegisFossils

I certainly found a few broken 😞 ammonites that afternoon on the fossil walk. The sea destroys the fossils rapidly geologically speaking. I do enjoy the fossil collecting at low tide though and finding some of the small whole ammonites . 🙌
