excellent talk... its cool to nerd out on cartridges and gear, but totally agree, that my most challenging hunts were ones where my stamina and strength were put to the test. As I age, gracefully... this becomes even more important... I've watched my Dad (now 78) and his brothers adapt when we head out with rifle and pack

As Charles Barkley said- you can play basketball to stay in shape or you get in shape to play basketball . Same thing with hunting- now I gotta go get my pack out and start hiking

The military comment about us not pushing 80+ lbs like the hunter is funny. Have gone up a mountain many times carry 100-120 lbs in the military. Anyone that hasn’t has obviously never dealt with large amounts of ammo, crew served weapons, and mortars a lot lol.

Seems like a rebranding of CrossFit… save your money, watch Pavel Tsatsouline videos, buy some kettlebells, and hike steep shit with lots of weight.

This was a great podcast. Just what I needed right now. Lots of practical advice that I will be implementing in my own routine.

Military doesn’t have 80-100 lbs packs.. or stay out of 5-7 days guess he was never light infantry lol

I hike the canyons and wade the rivers fishing; Spring, Summer, and Fall, which helps keep me in shape.
Also, we hunt the high plains, wind breaks, and riparian habitat drainage of eastern Colorado and south-east Wyoming for birds, plains deer and pronghorn from September through December. That leaves January, February and early March....Load the daypack with heavy "stuff" and hike the hogback, walking the dogs.
Not a fan of gyms; AND....we no longer hunt the Colorado high country for elk and deer. Its been ruined by big money outfitters, "hunt clubs", and idiot out-of-state, citified hunters who have no clue how to hunt safely in the mountains.

Do y’all not notice these types of videos get way less views than cartridge talks and gun talks? 😅
